On June 27, 2017, as part of EXPO 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan, the first large-scale solo concert of Dimash Kudaibergen “Bastau” (“Beginning”) was held, which accommodated about 30,000 spectators, who celebrated the concert with rave reviews. The lowest recorded note in his performance is F2, and the highest is D8 (D of the Fifth Octave). Despite the fact that, after completing training in the genre of academic opera singing, he was invited to work at the State Opera and Ballet Theater "Astana Opera", Kudaibergen decided to develop his career in modern music using classical elements, as well as traditional Kazakh music and pop music . To date, he has performed songs in Kazakh, Russian, English, Chinese, French, Turkish, Ukrainian, Serbian, German and Italian. He has repeatedly stated that, as a singer, he strives to introduce Kazakhstan to the world

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard of this very original artist, who became famous for his falsetto singing. The high register of the voice of Vitaly Grachev, better known by his stage name Vitas, was so amazing that it seemed that there was no one who could compare with him.

Today, the 47-year-old singer can rarely be seen on Russian tours, but Vitas’s fame in China with a population of 1.5 billion can hardly be compared with today’s popularity at home. The singer has been touring there recently. However, judging by his poster on the official website, the artist plans to begin a tour of Russian cities from March 1.

In the meantime, Vitas is returning to his native land, his follower has set off to conquer China.

Dimash Kudaibergenov flew to China for the most popular talent show, like our “Voice”, and literally shocked the Chinese with his performance. The 22-year-old Kazakh singer performed Vitas’ famous composition “Opera No. 2” two notes higher. Moreover, in the finale he even increased the tone four times! Inconceivable and fascinating! To say that China, which adored Vitas, was conquered by the young Kazakh is an understatement. A video of Dimash’s speech is going viral on the Internet, which most listen to with their mouths open.

Meanwhile, Kudaibergenov’s fame reached Vitas himself and his irreplaceable producer Sergei Pudovkin. No wonder. It was simply impossible not to notice how fans of performers argue on social networks about who is cooler.

So Vitaly Grachev was simply forced to make an official statement. Here is his text:

“Over the past four days, there has been too much negativity towards me on social networks. I want to say that I respect any creative activity, any creative person. I have never considered it possible for myself to apply to the judiciary or to engage in analysis or investigation of other people’s creativity, or to interfere in the creative life and activities of other artists. And I will never do this. As for legal conflicts and controversial issues that arise periodically around each artist, this is the prerogative of the producer and the company that represents interests in a particular country. There have always been and will be legal disputes and questions regarding popular performers, this is normal, but in no case should this lead to negativity, conflicts, and especially to insults.”

We got through to Sergei Pudovkin, producer of Vitas, who explained his dissatisfaction:

“He can sing five octaves higher or eight octaves lower, that’s his personal choice. There is copyright. Legally, the situation is extremely simple. Illegal use of someone else's intellectual property is punishable by law. As in the territory of the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, China, the USA and the whole world. There is a company that has represented Vitas’ interests in China for many years. This includes protecting intellectual property for 18 years of our creative activity. This company filed a lawsuit with the relevant courts of the PRC to protect copyright property. The song was written and created by Vitas, I am the copyright holder, which is why a notice was sent about the impossibility of using someone else's intellectual property without the permission of the copyright holder. This is world practice and a civilized decision. If someone takes someone else’s property without asking and uses it, no matter in what connection: a television competition, a festival, any public performance, then this is a simple judicial story. The use of someone else's will be prohibited. The consequences, in my opinion, will be quite serious for a person who begins his creative journey with the illegal use of someone else's property. I think this is both a dubious reputation and a dubious path. As a producer, it seems to me that you need to come out with your own face, with your own image, with your own creative, musical and vocal discoveries. Then it will be more interesting for the viewer. Unless it's a parody competition. Then this is a good option and has a place to be.”

The mother of 22-year-old Kazakh singer Dimash Kudaibergenov, who won the hearts of millions of Chinese at the vocal competition I Am a Singer, told in an interview with Aktobenews.kz what is the secret of her son’s unique voice.

"Many people say genes, but Dimash himself is very hardworking. He sang from the age of 5, learned to play the piano and dreamed of becoming a world-famous star. And we laughed. He worked, looked for technique, exercises. His vocal range is wide, probably thanks to because in the children's choir the teachers demanded that he often sing the top notes. That is, he sang for both the girl and the boy. And he got angry and said, I won’t sing like a girl. We tried to persuade him. I was lucky with the voice training teachers. First of all, the composer and singer Marat Aitimov. Now his son is in his third year at the National University of Arts. Well, we, as parents, have been monitoring and helping him in his professional growth,” said Honored Cultural Worker of Kazakhstan, professional singer Svetlana Aitpayeva.

According to her, their family learned about the competition in China from the Internet. "This is a competition among professional singers, organized by a popular Chinese TV channel. Its audience numbers more than two billion people. A year ago we submitted an application. Dimash went through several castings. We were very happy when he made it to the finals in the first round. Only 8 made it through with him participants. This was already a tremendous success for him. And when we found out that he became the leader in the first round, scoring 85 percent of the points, we were delighted,” the woman said.

“Dimash really likes the competition. A professional team works with the participants: musicians, TV presenters, cameramen, directors, managers. For my son, this is, first of all, a good master class. We also help him as best we can - we send notes, we advise,” she added publication's interlocutor.

"He successfully passed the first stage of the competition. Now he is preparing - there are still 13 rounds ahead. He is studying Chinese with tutors. And, of course, he plans to perform a piece in the Kazakh language at the competition. We teach all our children to sing in Kazakh and play the dombra, since this is a native instrument. In whatever country a Kazakh is, he must be able to show his culture, play a Kazakh composition on a Kazakh instrument. Dimash’s future plans are to graduate from university, release an album, and continue his musical career. always support him,” said Svetlana Aitpayeva.

Dimash himself on his page in Instagram admitted that after victory In the first stage of the competition in China, he was increasingly called “Kazakh Vitas”, “second Vitas”, “sings like Vitas”. However, he himself does not agree with this. “Of course, Vitas is a good singer, I respect him, but I’m not the second Vitas. Music experts will understand me perfectly. By the way, next time, at the insistence of the director, I will perform a difficult song "Opera 2" from Vitas' repertoire. How it turns out - rate it! Watch my performance on January 28 at 22.05 Beijing time,” the singer wrote.

Let us remind you that Dimash Kudaibergenov became the winner of the first round of the TV show I Am a Singer in the Chinese city of Changsha, performing the composition in French SOS d’un terrien en détresse. Dimash is the youngest of all the participants in the competition.
