According to etiquette, on which hand is a watch worn? On which hand should men and women wear a watch? Which hand is the watch worn in?

We always try to adhere to certain rules. How to behave in society, how to conduct a dialogue correctly and, of course, how to look appropriate for the moment. Therefore, there are hundreds and thousands of norms and standards in fashion and etiquette. How to tie a scarf or tie? What to wear to a formal meeting? How to wear a jacket? All this applies to watches. This accessory has firmly entered our lives and is no longer a traditional indicator of time. Today, a watch is an addition to the image, which can tell almost everything about its owner. How to wear a wristwatch correctly? On which hand? Are there any rules? Or maybe there are even interesting signs... This is what we will talk about today.

Watch on the right hand: symbols and signs

Why do people choose different, so to speak, hands for wearing watches? There is an explanation for all this.

It is generally accepted that a watch on the right hand can Only left-handed people can wear it. In reality, everything is different. The fact is that it is with the right hand that we make the most movements. Accordingly, the watch on your right hand will be most noticeable to others. It is logical to assume that in order to somehow stand out from the crowd, you will choose the right hand for your accessory, even if you are right-handed. That is why, most often, young people, who tend to deviate from generally accepted norms and customary foundations, prefer to wear watches on their right hands. If you prefer to wear a watch on your right hand, then we can most likely talk about a philosophical preference rather than a practical side.

According to psychologists The left side is characterized by negative shades, and the right side is characterized by positive shades, the left is the past, the right is the future. And all this can be attributed to wristwatches. If you are a purposeful person, trying to move forward without looking back at past mistakes, choose your right hand.

Ancient Chinese philosophy also speaks in favor of wearing a watch on the right hand.. According to her theory, there are energy points on the left wrist, exactly in the place where the watch strap should be. Including the point that responds to the work of the heart. If you wear a watch on your left hand, you can involuntarily put pressure on this point, which can even lead to cardiac arrest (again, this is all ancient Chinese philosophy). That is why in China it is recommended to wear a watch on the right hand.

Why should you wear a watch on your right hand?

There is another rather interesting version,The fact is that in this way you can protect the accessory from theft - in criminal circles, a watch on the right hand is a sign of “one’s own”, and pickpockets do not steal from their own.

Do you agree that this watch will look perfect on the right hand? ;-)

There is no specific watch etiquette. There are rules recognized in the business community, even if you wear a watch on your right hand. This applies to the size and design of the watch (they should not distract your interlocutor from the conversation).

A large number of signs and beliefs are associated with watches. Probably the most common thing is that you can’t give a watch for a wedding, you can’t give a watch for a birthday. Although, according to psychics, the donor needs to give a coin in return in order to nullify all the negative aspects. But the watch that you inherited is a powerful talisman for attracting good luck and protection. Such watches store all the energy of your ancestors and protect you from the evil eye and damage.

Watch on the left hand: etiquette and meaning

If you trace the history of wristwatches, then we will see that they gained the greatest popularity at the beginning of the twentieth century. At that time, this accessory most often adorned the wrists of officers. And since the majority were right-handed, the watch was worn on the left hand so as not to damage an expensive item. Over time, watch production was established, and even left-handed models went on sale, but the habit, developed over a hundred years, remained. Agree, it’s much more convenient to move the mechanism and fasten the strap with your right hand.

FACT

Due to the fact that more than 80% of the inhabitants of our planet are right-handed, watches are usually worn on the left hand. And the matter here is largely due to practicality. After all, in this way, first of all, we get the opportunity to protect the accessory from unexpected damage, because we do most of the work with our right hand.

As for etiquette, then in a business environment, the watch should be on the left hand, be it a man or a woman. The choice of this side will indicate the elegance and education of a business person. It is also worth paying attention that the watch does not stick out much from under the shirt cuff, is not very provocative (so that the interlocutor is not distracted) and corresponds to a business style.

Why do people choose their left hand to wear a watch:

It’s just convenient, because putting the watch on your left hand and helping yourself with your right hand is much more practical.

You can wind the watch without even removing it from your hand.

On the left hand, the watch is least susceptible to damage and any other influences. Indeed, according to one sign, a damaged watch promises problems for its owner, therefore, you should treat your wristwatch as carefully as possible.

If you believe the esoteric version, wristwatches for the left hand are chosen by those who cannot accept their past, constantly experiencing events that can no longer be changed.

A watch on the left hand indicates that its owner is a creative person.

Time is one of the most important things that it is nice to receive as a gift. The age of mobility throws business men into a framework when it is impossible to survive without an organizer and planned everyday life. It would be good if your hand, under the cufflinks and snow-white cuffs, displays stylish Casio, quartz Tissot, leather mechanical Zenith or prestigious Patek Philippe.

History with the crown

The question of which hand men wear their watch on is a matter of intense debate. But there are historical facts going back to the origins of the First World War. It was at the beginning of the 20th century that wristwatches came into use among officers and soldiers. The right hand, as a rule, was busy squeezing a weapon, was more active when throwing a grenade, etc. If the watch hung on it, then the risk of damaging it would be maximum, so brave warriors had to fasten bracelets on their left wrists. The answer to the question on which hand men wear watches also emerges from the fact that every single retro model had a manual winding when the crown was located on the right. Any right-hander could set the exact time, handle the strap, and rush into battle in a matter of seconds.

Today there are those who find it more convenient to wear their favorite Montblanc or Ulysse Nardin on the left. There are men for whom the crown simply rubs the brush.

Chinese wisdom

Who hasn't heard of the Eastern meditation technology "Fukuri"? According to it, important energy points (tsun, chi and guan) are located on the wrists. The zones are located down from the thumb, and when pressed, the condition of the liver, lungs, heart or intestines can be easily determined. Tsun-kou hints that the secret of human health lies in the palms. The cun point (“flame motor”) is located on different hands in women and men. On the left - for representatives of the stronger sex, on the right - for the weaker sex. Although a successful man with a watch on his hand (no matter which one) will instantly attract the attention of the fairer sex.

Chinese healers claim that male blood flows from the heart to the left side, female blood flows vice versa. The conclusion suggests itself: if a man puts mechanical Hublot or quartz Omega on his left hand, he will “insure” his heart against possible diseases.

The effectiveness of the style speaks in favor of the right hand, since it is more energetic, often in the field of view of the interlocutor, which means there is a reason to boast about the number of stones, engraving or a leather strap of a branded model.

Witchcraft signs with ticking presents

A fashionable watch as a gift to a man is a luxurious, but dangerous omen. If you believe superstitions, then giving a ticking Lange & Sohne, Oris, Graham (or any other watch) can lead to a quarrel and a break in relationships. Therefore, the most impressionable men should give a coin in return. There will be an exchange, not a gift, so all the negativity will disappear, and the sign will lose all meaning. A universal gift suitable for any significant date: anniversary, jubilee, birthday and even wedding.

Where to look for success?

An elegant watch mechanism will be an excellent assistant on the path to success and prosperity. An accessory determines a person’s status in society and makes him appreciate every minute. Is there at least one sign worth giving up as a gift, for example, the limited edition Infiniti Red Bull Racing from Edifice? People with imagination will be grateful for the stylish model with PVD coating, royal blue bezel, and super-bright backlight. Athletes will lose their heads at the almighty Casio in the urban Military Style with LED auto-backlight.

Individuality and style are the main guidelines when choosing a watch for a man. Some will be delighted with the military theme, some will be delighted with an exact copy of the “Swiss”, others will be satisfied with the modern collections of legendary brands. There are several simple rules regarding how to choose a watch for a man.

  1. Before you squeal with delight, peering at the stylish Rolex, Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, pay attention to your wrist. Massive models with a thick strap will look good on a large hand, while elegant and modest accessories will look good on a thin hand.
  2. It is better to choose mechanical watches for everyday use, as they are not going to wear out. Often such products have historical value and become family heirlooms.
  3. Quartz models are suitable as gifts for fishermen, athletes, lovers of rock climbing, traveling, etc. Their endurance and accuracy can only be envied.
  4. Electronics are suitable for the younger generation, obsessed with bright prints and unusual shapes. An abstract drawing or portrait of a celebrity on the dial will perfectly fit into a casual look. It is worth paying attention to the brands Certina, Jaguar, Victorinox. You can find out which watch a man should choose from specialized catalogs.
  5. To hit the target and not make a mistake, you need to choose an adjustable strap, preferably made of leather.
  6. A man is an athlete or a businessman, with or without income, by nature a conqueror, a winner. Everyone will prefer a light metal case combined with a dark strap.
  7. He will definitely be grateful to the high-status Casio G-Shock, which has conquered the age of cybernetics and technology with its versatility. Ultra-modern models have so many advantages that it is impossible to count them on your fingers.
  8. Classic options like the “Austrians” - Jacques Lemans - will forever remain relevant. A neat skeleton and a lot of color options are the strengths of the brand.
  9. If you want to surprise your other half, give him the “Swiss” Roamer. And it will no longer matter on which hand men wear the watch, because the brand places emphasis on the design of the invention. An unusual display of the date, days of the week, the presence of additional dials, a hint of a chronograph, several bracelet options - the futuristic style will certainly make it stand out from the crowd. In the same collection you can choose laconic, minimalist movements with sapphire anti-reflective glass.

A couple of foreign watchmaking traditions

The military theme finds its way into the stunning Swiss Military Hanowa with the Navy Line collection. Modern design ideas are embodied in “puck” cases with chronographs, indicators, etc. Fossil is direct proof of this. But the British followed in the footsteps of their retrograde traditions. In particular, Royal London placed the hands on the dial in such a way that it seems as if seconds, days and weeks are about to intersect. The visual effect is mesmerizing.

Trends 2014

Futuristic motifs of the 21st century have not bypassed the most representative wardrobe accessory. Stylish watches of recent seasons have decided to imitate powerful sports cars. Thus, the Orient SpeedTech collection pays tribute to the favorite Subaru-BRZ, it is executed in the original corporate style. On the dial there is a retrograde indicator in the style of a speedometer, and an accurate chronograph 1/100, etc. Time is especially valued today, which means it is expensive. Prestigious brands Anne Klein, Diesel, Fossil, Jacque Lemans represent not only imagination, but also quality. When choosing, it is important to pay attention to the durability of the coating, additional features, accuracy, and the reputation of the company.

Titled products

They greet you by their clothes. This is what folk wisdom says. In elite circles, your status will be determined not only by your brains and education, but also by such a trifle as a watch. Swiss models will not allow you to ask how bad things are going for you. And they certainly do not fall into the category of bad omens. There is only one superstition all over the world: if you wear a premium watch to an important meeting, partnership negotiations, presentations or deals, then success is guaranteed. The good omen of giving a watch to a man justifies itself if the box contains the famous Rolex. Your husband, brother, father or son has never been so happy. The Swiss brand, like an expensive car, will teach you how to find a place in society. A titled product will increase your chances of overcoming the most difficult tasks: finding a soul mate, getting positive results at business meetings, etc. Expensive and avant-garde timepieces, a combination of exclusivity, futuristic design (Longines, Oris, Maurice Lacroix, Edox, Louis Erard) are like parting words for attracting good luck and wealth.

The fashion category is suitable for going to clubs, night parties and other fashionable places. Le Chic and Cacharel will harmoniously fit into the image of a fashionable ladies' man, a macho man and ordinary street casual wear. The classics will present you as clearly as possible in the Bulova brand and stainless steel cases. They will not refuse the delights of Tommy Hilfiger, Hanowa. These are practical models that can be combined with any event and clothing style. But the sports and travel series represent watches for real men (TVG Steel, Weide Power, Weide Sport Blue, Skmei Dive, Led Aircraft, Oulumn Creative, etc.).

Understanding the clock

The main thing in ticking bracelets is the mechanism, quartz or mechanical. The latter operates manually with an error of -30/+40 seconds. It is easier to operate with quartz, since it is “powered” by batteries, accumulators, and light energy. The operation of such products lasts up to 10 years of smooth and precise operation, and the error is absolutely minimal, -/+20 sec. per month. A high-quality wristwatch for men should not only have a “fine mental organization” and an excellent mechanism, but also an attractive appearance.

Fashionable cases

It will take even longer to deal with the case, since the modern market offers:

  • stainless steel with an excellent combination of price and quality;
  • polymer, plastic with their budget approach to business, but also rapid wear and loss of appearance;
  • titanium alloy, as strong as steel, but 40% lighter;
  • aluminum alloy, like the famous Swatch, characterized by lightness and durability;
  • gold cases, precious, Swiss;
  • ceramic, durable, scratch-resistant, but fragile, susceptible to mechanical damage;
  • brass, simple and inexpensive, retaining their presentation for several years.

The bracelet will tell you which watch to choose for a man. Straps made of the same material as the cases look harmonious. Fabric and rubber solutions are also popular today. The most sophisticated variation is the leather bracelet. Extravagance, respectability, prestige - this is what stylish straps speak of. Durable sapphire crystals can withstand damage and shock, while mineral crystals can only be scratched by sharp objects. You can save on transparent plastic Hesalit with polishing.

How to wear a watch correctly for a man: occasion, time and place

For lovers of an active lifestyle, it is important to pay attention to the water resistance of the model. Diving, windsurfing and other sea adventures can be done today with Casio, Tissot, Omega, Luminox and others. What kind of watch a man should wear is determined by his character. A businessman, a hockey player, a street teenager - everyone needs an accessory that complements their individual style. Watches made in Switzerland will become a successful companion for entrepreneurs, managers, and directors. The business look is all about classic motifs, sparkling with gilded cases and leather cuff bracelets. Strict classics in the form of Hublot, Ulysse Nardine, Romain Jerome are determined by recognition and prestige, as well as the high cost of the models.

A relaxed sports style dictates a dynamic lifestyle in the Nike, Adidas, G-Shok series. But the exquisite Franck Muller and Panerai create unique styles thanks to fantastic color schemes. They are loved by creative people. Clock mechanisms are a reflection of a person's character. They must combine persistence, confidence, fortitude and willpower. This is a kind of advertising, silently ticking away about the place and role of its owner in society. Modern models have learned to perform a number of additional tasks, such as measuring atmospheric pressure, calories burned per day, calculating lunar phases, determining temperature, etc. Smart devices re-teach how a man should wear a watch correctly, how to use the functionality correctly and catch the loving glances of women.

Creative with a clock

Technology that has taken over the era can fully reflect a person's determination through a miniature and neat watch on the wrist. Creative advertisers, talented writers, couturiers or artists will not refuse Japanese Casio with the Edifice, ProTrek and Seiko series. Fans of morning jogging, scoring goals or baskets, Formula 1 fans will be delighted with the Jacques Lemans presentation from the most prestigious European tournament. Swiss quality can be found at Adriatica and Appella. One can argue for a long time about which hand men wear their watches on. It is better to look at the model itself than to ask the owner why he chose this particular hand.

Nowadays, watches surround us everywhere: in cell phones, computers, laptops, in buildings and on the street, in running advertisements. The need for them is becoming less and less. However, this does not make them less popular; on the contrary, they acquire other useful and aesthetic functions. Therefore, many people ask the question, on which hand do they wear a watch? What is watch etiquette?

Wristwatches are one of the always fashionable and classic accessories. They were and are not so much a determinant of time as a classic decoration that creates style and image, wealth and social status. They give men masculinity and efficiency, women beauty and grace, they are often an old family heirloom, one of the popular, expensive and useful gifts. Many superstitions and signs are associated with them.

A little history

The first wristwatch was made in the 17th century as a gift to the son of Napoleon Bonaparte. And although they were very beautiful and expensive, they did not receive due recognition. Interest in them was renewed at the beginning of the 20th century - during the First World War. At this time, pocket watches on a chain were in fashion, which, by the way, also demonstrated the well-being of the people of that time.

Men on the front lines had no time, and it was inconvenient to constantly reach into their pockets for a watch, so they attached a strap to the pocket watch and simply tied it on the wrist. Over time, wristwatches received their own special calling and became an integral part of every self-respecting man.

Why on the left?

As a rule, watches are worn on the left hand, which is due to the fact that most people are right-handed. Being right-handed is the norm, as well as a stereotype from the Soviet past.

Why was it so important to be right-handed in Soviet times?

– it was believed that writing with the right hand disciplines the child and adjusts him to the interests of the team, so children were forcibly retrained to write with the right hand; also, being left-handed caused a lot of inconvenience, both for the left-hander himself and for those around him;

- there were times when schoolchildren wrote in ink and what was written with their left hand, before it had time to dry, was immediately smeared by the writer himself;

– in the Soviet Union, all production equipment was created for right-handers;

– the Kalashnikov assault rifle is also designed for right-handed people, and the Soviet Union survived the Great Patriotic War and was in a state of “cold war” for a long time. Almost every citizen of the USSR had to own a machine gun.

Now the interests of the individual are put first and it is up to him to decide whether he should be right-handed or left-handed and how to wear a watch. In short, on which hand to wear a watch is not so important now, but the habit remains - most people wear them on their left hand.

Wearing a watch on the left hand is primarily associated with convenience and functionality. As a rule, a watch is an item with a fragile mechanism that must be treated with care. Therefore, it is advisable to wear them on the hand that is less exposed to vibrations and various physical actions. The priority here is the safety of the watch. Also, the crown for winding the watch is on the right side, so if you wear it on your left hand, there is no need to remove it to wind it. Also very convenient.

Does right mean “right”?

According to statistics, many successful men wear a watch on their right hand.

What is the reason for this and is it possible, contrary to standards, to wear them on the right?

– There are biologically active points on people’s wrists, the impact of which affects the functioning of vital organs. The point responsible for the proper functioning of the heart in men is located on the left wrist, and wearing a watch can lead to improper stimulation and, as a result, disruption of the heart.

– Since most people wear a watch on their left hand, wearing it on their right hand gives them some originality and makes them stand out from the crowd. They are associated with active, purposeful people who confidently overcome any obstacles in life.

– Watches on the right hand are worn by people associated with creative activities, as a rule, artists, designers, musicians, that is, they are also special.

– There is a concept that pickpockets wore watches on their right hands - this was their distinctive sign to recognize “their own.”

– Another interesting theory is the relationship to the words “right” and “left”. Many people subconsciously associate the right side with positive feelings, with a confident look into the future: “right”, “correct”, “Orthodox”, “justice”. Accordingly, the “left” side causes negative emotions (“go to the left”, a group of people against the majority)

Features of wearing watches for women

For a woman, all the above criteria are also suitable. However, women, to a greater extent than men, treat watches as jewelry and select them according to their combination and harmony in style and design with rings and bracelets.

For example, if there are a lot of rings on your right hand, then in order not to clutter it up, you can put the watch on your left. And vice versa. The same goes for the bracelet. It happens that a bracelet matches a watch in design, quality and price, which means they can be worn on one hand, if not, then on different ones.

Of course, there are many conventions in this matter. And everything that has been said is not so important. Everyone decides for themselves which watch to wear and on which hand, based on convenience, their needs and preferences.

Video on the topic of the article:

From the moment the first wristwatch appeared until today, such an accessory has invariably been an indicator of the status of its owner. Until recently, chronometers helped the owner navigate time, but with the advent of smartphones and tablets, the direct purpose of watches has lost its relevance. And if style, status, and business etiquette come to the fore, then a completely natural question arises, connected with all these nuances, on which hand men wear their watches. Let's look at a few theories about this.

Which hand should I wear it on?

A question of etiquette and profession

If a man is an entrepreneur, has his own business or holds a respectable position, then it makes sense to adhere to the canons of etiquette in order to instill more trust among partners and emphasize his reliability. In this case, there is a clear rule regarding which hand men should wear a watch on - the left.

Representatives of creative professions - artists, musicians, designers, poets, as well as those individuals whose activities are related to the need to develop creative ideas and directions, for example, PR managers - can take more liberties. In this case, it is allowed not only for a man to wear a watch on his right hand, but also to abandon it altogether in favor of an original pocket watch, or to choose a model with a strap of a very unusual and bright design.

The main thing is that the overall image is harmonious and the accessory fits organically into it.

Important! Remember that to maintain a consistent business image, it is important to follow some rules for selecting an accessory:

  • the watch must be completely combined with the trouser suit;
  • the chronometer on the hand should be quite large, suitable for the size of the owner’s wrist, but of a strict shape and laconic design;
  • if a man uses cufflinks for a shirt, the watch should match them in color, design, design;
  • The watch should fit clearly on the wrist according to its size, and not dangle on it.

A question of history

Today on store shelves you can see mechanical, quartz, electronic models, and multifunctional chronometers, which cannot even be called ordinary watches. But all this abundance appeared not so long ago. Back in the middle of the last century, people were content exclusively with mechanical chronometers that required constant winding.

Under such conditions, there was no need to be particularly puzzled about which hand men should wear their watches on - they were put on only on the left hand, so that it would be more convenient for the right hand to tighten the small crown of the chronometer as needed.

A matter of convenience

As for personal convenience, it all depends on whether the person is right-handed or left-handed. Just a few decades ago, left-handers were “outlawed.” Even in kindergartens and schools they retrained to use exclusively the right hand if it was noticed that the child took everything with his left. Today this point is not fundamental, no one retrains or infringes on anyone just for the reason that it is more convenient for a person to work, write and perform any household chores with his left hand.

Based on this, you can easily say on which hand it is correct for a man to wear a watch:

  • Lefties - on the right.
  • Right-handers - on the left.

A question of psychology

Psychologists can tell a lot about a person just by looking at him and assessing what he is wearing, how he is dressed, and many other nuances that an ordinary person does not even think about.

Representatives of this profession also have an opinion regarding which hand a man should wear a watch on:

  1. Adherents of the classical style - both in clothing and in life, as well as pedants and strict practitioners, put the accessory on their left hand.
  2. Purposeful, strong individuals who are not afraid of change and always look ahead to the future wear a watch on their right hand.

Bioenergy issue

Chinese medicine is now known throughout the world. Despite the fact that not everyone understands the full essence of the methods of healers from the Middle Kingdom, many are inclined to trust them, since the results are sometimes stunning.

According to these teachings, in the body of every person there are many energy points, by influencing which you can not only improve your physical condition, but also improve your life in general, including in work, personal relationships with the opposite sex, etc.

In relation to the clock, the importance of the location of energy points responsible for the functioning of the heart is emphasized. For men they are on the left hand, for women - on the right. Therefore, in order not to block them, but to allow free circulation of energy, men should wear a watch on their right hand.

Signs and superstitions

In addition to practical, bioenergetic and psychological considerations, there are many more signs and superstitions associated with wristwatches. There are claims that a person’s fate is influenced not only by which hand the chronometer is worn, but also by its shape, size, and many other nuances. By choosing the right accessory and complementing your image with it, you can change your destiny for the better, and vice versa.

Here are some signs and tips associated with them regarding wristwatches:

  1. A square dial will help you get rid of frivolity and organize yourself correctly; it will help a person become more serious and collected.
  2. Diamond-shaped - good for those who cannot achieve inner balance and peace of mind. But when solving serious business issues or active work activities, they should be abandoned.
  3. Round - welcome to wear for those individuals who often prioritize prejudices and are conservative about the rules of human behavior. Such a chronometer on your hand will help you become more tolerant and less critical.
  4. Oval - it is recommended to wear such a watch for those who find it difficult to achieve their goals and establish contacts with other people. Plus, such an accessory is considered a kind of talisman of good luck, especially in the field of professional activity.
  5. The triangular dial is the choice of hidden leaders who lack determination and self-confidence. It is only advisable to replace this model with another from time to time, so that increased self-esteem does not develop into ambition and arrogance.
  6. Hexagonal patterns will help develop your creativity and improve your intuition, will contribute to the emergence of new ideas and finding harmony with yourself.

Important! There are many speculations and superstitions associated with giving watches. This decoration is not suitable as a gift:

  • for a wedding, as this is fraught with a quick divorce of the newlyweds;
  • for a birthday, since from the moment the hero of the occasion receives the gift, the “countdown to death” will begin.

The choice of both the jewelry itself and the method of wearing it largely depends on the personal preferences of a particular person. In any case, this is a very interesting topic with which you can experiment endlessly. Perhaps, with the help of the right watch, worn on your right or left hand, you will finally be able to achieve those goals that you have set for yourself long ago, but have not yet realized, or you will have new ideas that will help both personally and in professional development.

The topic of wearing a wristwatch correctly has a long history. Initially, miniature chronometers that could be carried with you were pocket-sized. They were attached to a special chain and placed in a miniature pocket on the front shelf of the vest. Usually this pocket was located on the left side to make it easier for right-handed people to take out the watch and check the time.

Buttons on men's clothing were sewn in a similar way, which made it significantly different from women's clothing. All details of the costume, as well as the way of wearing a pocket watch, were specially “sharpened” for right-handed people. Left-handers were not taken into account in this case, since the ability to write and generally do anything with the left hand was considered abnormal. Little left-handers at school were mercilessly and sometimes cruelly retrained to meet general standards.

Now there are a large number of theories answering the question “which hand should you wear a watch on?” Let's look at the most common ones.

Mechanics and electronics

The first mechanical watches on a strap appeared during the First World War. Due to their convenience, they immediately became popular with officers and then with soldiers. All watches in those days were hand-wound only. The head for it was again located on the right for the comfort of right-handers. It was at that time that the tradition of wearing wrist chronometers on the left hand developed: it was convenient to wind them and fasten them this way (of course, if a person’s right hand is dominant).

In 1957, the first electronic watch was finally invented. They were created simultaneously by two companies: the American Elgin Watch Company and the French Leap Besancon. The first electronic “Hamiltons” are now considered a real legend. They were equipped with a quartz movement, so you could forget about manual winding.

But gentlemen continued to wear such watches on their left hands, which was nothing more than a tribute to tradition. In the 60s, respectable citizens tried not to stand out from the crowd, so even wearing a wristwatch was strictly regulated by social norms.

Mystical theory

This theory is based on the teachings of Fukuri, according to which three significant energy points are located on the wrists of both hands: Guan, Cun and Chi. They are directly responsible for human health. They are located under the thumb on the wrist, one after another. By influencing them, you can control the condition of the human liver, intestines, lungs, kidneys, bladder, and heart. Improper stimulation of the points can lead to poor health. The Tsun point is directly related to the work of the heart and is located on the left hand in men and on the right hand in women. This is due to the fact that supposedly the blood in men from the heart flows to the left side, and in women - to the right. Therefore, it is better for the latter, for example, to wear a wristwatch on the left hand.

Even criminologists recognize frequent mystical coincidences between the time of the owner’s death and the stoppage of his watch.

"Thief" theory

In addition to theories, there is a legend on the topic of wearing watches, born after the war. According to her, real thieves wear watches exclusively on their right hands. Therefore, if you wear a watch on this hand, you can be sure that it will not be stolen, since they will not steal from their own

So right or left?

Only many years after the invention of electronic wristwatches did people begin to think about why, in fact, wear them on the left hand if a person is left-handed. It is much more convenient for him to fasten the strap with the left hand, and place the watch itself on the right. This opinion was consolidated after psychologists recognized that left-handedness is not a mental disorder, and little left-handers at school were no longer taught to write with their right hand.

According to statistics, 15% of the world's population are left-handed. This is every seventh inhabitant of the planet. It is hardly reasonable and correct not to take into account the interests of so many people. Nowadays everyone wears a wristwatch in a way that suits them. And this is the most correct option.

When choosing a hand for wearing them, it is important to focus on your own feelings and comfort, as well as your type of occupation. If you have to use your right hand a lot and your wristwatch may get damaged, it is better to put it on your left hand, and vice versa.
