Top scariest games on PC. The scariest computer games in the world

Many people love to tickle their nerves, which is why we decided to talk about 15 scariest games and briefly describe what they deserve its place in this ranking. Grab a sedative! We present the most terrible horror games on PC, after which you definitely won’t fall asleep!)

At the end of the article BONUS A game every PC gamer should play!

1. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

A game with a sad fate: it bankrupted its developer and ended up being released in an incomplete form. But what would it be like in its finished form, if even now “Call of Cthulhu” remains rightfully one of the most terrible horror films on the planet!

The game does not hide the fact that it takes inspiration from the works of Howard Lovecraft and works out its program to the fullest: here you have escapes from a crowd of bloodthirsty city residents, and a weak main character who can literally go crazy, and an eternal shortage of ammunition - combine this all with creepy fish people, a city at night where you never feel safe, and the result is one of the most intense horror experiences in the history of video games.

2. Silent Hill 4: The Room

A very controversial game, which, on the one hand, tortures the player with repetitive locations, (even for its time) not the most beautiful graphics and uncomfortable gameplay conventions, but, on the other hand, indulges in an exciting plot about a maniac and the main character locked in his own apartment.

Invulnerable monsters, gloomy style and a feeling of fear in front of your own apartment - The Room takes its rightful place.

3. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

The Silent Hill series loves playing with players just as much as players love playing it. She is known for her unusual, ever-changing world, full of metaphors, which makes you wonder where the border with reality lies.

Shattered Memories is not a numbered part of the series, but this not only does not make the game worse, but also allows it to experiment with the player in a way that the main parts did not. A dark, cold city and an unarmed protagonist who has no choice but to run away from monsters. A worthy test for your nerves.

4.Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil 7 has become a real gift for everyone who has been missing serious horror games in recent years. The game masterfully combines hide-and-seek based on Outlast, battles with tenacious monsters, riddles, and traps - the authors tried to ensure that each episode of the game offered something new.

The developers took a big risk when they moved Resident Evil to a first-person view, seriously reworked the balance between horror and action, and removed the usual main characters. It didn't turn out perfect, but the risk was completely worth it.

5. The Witch's House

Who would have thought that a game created on RPG Maker would achieve such a high place. But The Witch's House fully deserves it: the atmosphere of the house, where even the most harmless object can become an enemy or a trap, constantly keeps you in suspense, and the final outcome will not leave anyone indifferent.

6. Silent Hill 2

"Silent Hill 2 isn't scary at all!" - someone will exclaim. But it’s impossible not to mention this game, because it’s already a kind of classic of the genre. The absence of “screamers” and a melancholic mood are what associations arise with. Right after a touching storyline that captivated thousands of people around the world and proved that even horror can tell a decent story.

And as for what is “not scary”, then... “Silence is also sound,” as the composer of the series said. The truly scary thing is the unknown behind the next door, and not a monster that suddenly jumps out.

7. P.T.

A game that will never see the light of day - a demo version that was enough to keep people stuck in front of their screens for hours, trying to solve all its mysteries. And this is not surprising: when did Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro work on horror?

8. Lone Survivor

Silent Hill has been either underwhelming or dead in recent years, so fans like Jasper Byrne have come to the rescue, who deftly brought the atmosphere of mystery into the 2D world - not to mention the fact that this is his debut game.

Barely lit corridors along which monsters roam, forays for provisions and weapons, mysterious characters and generally mysterious everything that catches your eye, because Lone Survivor will definitely not let you go so easily from the world of hallucinations.

9. Layers of Fear

P.T. is not enough for you. and demo versions of Resident Evil 7? Then you are in the right place, because the Polish team managed to get as close as possible to the title of a worthy successor to these games, plunging the player into the role of an artist who explores the house, and at the same time, his own mind.

10. Alien: Isolation

Alien Isolation manages to capture the spirit of the original film series. Simply put, I managed to become truly scary. In space, no one will hear your scream, so good luck to everyone who decides to oppose the alien.

11. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly

If games usually give you the opportunity, if not to fight the monster, then at least to escape, Crimson Butterfly says that this is not enough and forces you to face your own fear. Two sisters find themselves in an abandoned mansion and their only chance to survive is to film ghosts.

12.Resident Evil 4

The game that started the fashion for modern action-horror games with a third-person view. Yes, the balance has shifted heavily towards battles and shootouts, but one cannot help but remember the game that had such a huge impact on the genre as a whole.

13. Condemned: Criminal Origins

A game that showed that not only monsters are scary, but also people. And with the same ease - no fantasy, only the cruel reality of urban slums. Worth your time just for the mannequin level alone.

14. Dead Space

One of the first serious attempts to cross horror with third-person action after Resident Evil 4. It turned out somewhat monotonous, but at the same time, not without its own ideas, which were developed in the sequel. The only pity is that the further the series went, the less scary it became.

15. Outlast

Lone journalists' trips to abandoned mental hospitals in games never end well. The story of Miles Upshur, who immediately faces all the madness of the world around him, while in his pocket he only has a camera that helps him see in the dark, and a pack of batteries for it, is no exception.

Outlast will not surprise with its plot and will not present anything new for a fan of the horror genre, just as its gameplay is built on a single “run and hide” mechanic, but the game is still capable of titillating the nerves - in the absence of fish in large AAA horror games, players had just the right time .

Bonus TOP game:

As we promised, the bonus game is - Fortnite. This is a very popular, interesting and exciting game! Fortnite: Battle Royale will have a giant map where players will be dropped from a huge battle bus. You will need to build, destroy, and participate in PvP battles. Remember! In the new mode, the last one standing wins.

What computer games do you think are not included in the top? the most terrible? Tell us about them in the comments!

An asymmetrical multiplayer horror game reminiscent of the cult film “The Thing”: players locked in a location must find out which of them is a dangerous monster masquerading as a human.

The game keeps participants in constant suspense and famously plays with genres: while the lights are on, it’s a detective quest, where everyone is watching each other and looking for evidence of their suspicions, but when the map plunges into darkness, the most natural action begins, where the infected try to kill normal people. Thus, good reflexes and deduction skills are equally important in Deceit.

19. Slender Series

A series of games spawned by an Internet legend about an otherworldly creature called Slenderman and spawned countless clones of dubious quality with monotonous gameplay and cheap jump scares.

But, regardless of the followers, the original is worthy of attention: players will have to explore the location, look for notes scattered throughout it, shedding light on the secrets of the plot, and try with all their might not to catch the eye of the monster. The main character is helpless in front of the monster, so when meeting him, all he can do is run without looking back, which makes the game very scary and tense.

18. Knock-Knock

Knock-Knock (or “Knock-Knock-Knock”) is a horror game from the Russian studio Ice-Pick Lodge, which gave us the games “Pestilence (Utopia)” and “Turgor”. Here, gamers are asked to hold out in a mysterious house until dawn, running from room to room, turning on lights everywhere and hiding in shelters in case of danger.

Despite the somewhat monotonous gameplay, Knock-Knock remains a fairly scary game, and besides, it attracts with a cute picture and intrigues with a mysterious story.

17. Left 4 Dead series

Left 4 Dead can hardly be called a very scary game, even if it is set in a zombie apocalypse setting. Rather, it is an exciting adventure where four players make their way to the goal, killing hundreds of monsters.

However, there is still some suspense in the game. Some campaigns, especially at high difficulty levels, are capable of challenging, forcing you to make every effort, literally cutting through crowds of the living dead. And, of course, we can’t help but mention the meetings with the Witches - this is 100% horror, even if it lasts no longer than a minute.

16. Alan Wake

A game that captures not fear, but atmosphere. The story of a writer who came to a provincial town to gain inspiration, and ended up encountering supernatural forces and losing his wife, is full of secrets and omissions, and the authentic environment and colorful characters only add to its mystery.

In Alan Wake there are no screamers or savoring of brutal murders, but the game sets the right mood, intrigues and captivates, which is often beyond the capabilities of much more terrible games.

15. The Forest

14. Dying Light

A project that constantly radically changes its gameplay, alternating between regular action and intense horror. It's all about the enemies: in the daytime, the city infected with the epidemic is inhabited by slow zombies, which can be dealt with without much effort, but at night very dangerous monsters come out hunting, posing a mortal threat to those who did not manage to get to the shelter in time.

Among the other advantages of Dying Light, it is worth noting the open world, many tasks, sophisticated parkour and hand-to-hand combat systems, as well as co-op and asymmetric multiplayer, in which one of the players becomes a monster hunter and tries to destroy human opponents.

13. Five Nights at Freddy's episode

Our top list of the scariest games would be incomplete without the indie project, which at one time simply blew up YouTube and Twitch, and also spawned many followers. We are talking about Five Nights at Freddy's - the brainchild of game designer Scott Cawthon.

As it turned out, watching YouTubers and streamers squeal when meeting animatronics is very fun and interesting, so the debut game quickly went viral, and the developer released several sequels. Now the popularity of the series has faded, but it’s definitely worth checking out - despite all the primitiveness of the game mechanics, FNAF is quite capable of challenging your self-control.

12.Dead By Daylight

An asymmetrical multiplayer horror game dedicated to the confrontation between ordinary people and maniacal monsters, including completely new characters and famous killers from films like Freddy Krueger or Michael Myers.

Matches in Dead By Daylight are played in a one-versus-four format, but that one can easily take out all four unless the four team up and coordinate their actions. Random generation of levels and the human factor make each fight unique and inimitable.

11. Little Nightmares

The story of a girl in a yellow raincoat who is trying to escape from a Maw ship filled with grotesque creatures driven only by the desire to eat to their heart's content.

At first glance, Little Nightmares is an ordinary, albeit damn stylish, platformer with puzzle elements. But the further the player moves through the plot, the more shocking details of the Womb are revealed to him, and the main character appears in a completely unexpected light. The game is completed in literally 4-5 hours, but even with all the transience it will give you a lot of vivid impressions.

10. Layers of Fear

9. SOMA

A game from the creators of Penumbra and Amnesia, which poses very adult, serious and even philosophical questions to players. What’s scary here is not from the monsters or the environment (although both are done quite well), but from the thoughts that creep into your head during and after the passage.

Otherwise, SOMA is a typical walking simulator, with a leisurely pace, rare horror elements and beautifully dark locations.

8. Amnesia Series

Another horror game with a helpless protagonist forced to hide from nightmarish monsters. The Amnesia games tell fascinating, mystical stories about people facing an unexplained evil.

Surviving when you can’t fight back the enemy is very difficult, so in Amnesia you have to hide, distract the monsters, and run away without looking back. The tension gives way to real horror when the monster notices the careless player, and the protagonist’s ragged breathing is drowned out by the beating of his own heart. Such an experience is remembered for a long time.

7. Outlast Series

And again the main character who cannot fight back his enemies. The developers can be understood: introducing such game mechanics is the easiest (lazy) way to make the game scary, but still many gamers would like not only to be afraid, but also to fight their fears.

However, Outlast has something to praise for. The atmosphere of the madness of the environment in which the protagonist finds himself is perfectly conveyed here. The psychiatric hospital in the original and the religious community in the sequel live by their own laws and are not very welcoming to random visitors. To avoid falling into the hands of bloodthirsty madmen, you have to hide and run away, trying to see the road in the pitch darkness through the lens of a video camera with a night vision device and hoping that the batteries don’t run out at the most inopportune moment.

6. Alien: Isolation

One of the best horror films, also based on the cult universe of “Aliens” - the best gift for fans of the genre. The game tells the story of Amanda Ripley, the daughter of the main character of the film saga, who goes to the Sevastopol space station to find information about her missing mother. There she finds not only information, but also a xenomorph, who gradually deals with all the inhabitants of the station.

The authors of Alien: Isolation have implemented one of the best AI in horror games. The Alien’s behavior here cannot be predicted; he can appear anywhere and even find a well-hidden player. The game of cat and mouse with an unpredictable enemy makes the gameplay of the project very tense, but at the same time exciting.

5. Dead Space Series

A cult series created (and, unfortunately, already successfully buried) by Electronic Arts in collaboration with Visceral Games. Dead Space invites players to fight necromorphs - creepy creatures that appear thanks to an alien artifact and use corpses for their existence.

The main character of the series, engineer Isaac Clarke, does not stand on ceremony with monsters. He successfully turns work tools into deadly weapons and has in his arsenal many methods of destroying monsters. Due to this, however, at times the gameplay almost completely moves from horror to action.

4. Limbo/Inside

Two games from Playdead Studios, filled with mysteries and omissions and enveloping in a gloomy atmosphere of hopelessness, combined with a minimalistic, stylish picture. According to one theory, Limbo and Inside take place in the same universe, but the developers have not confirmed (or denied) this.

As for the gameplay of Limbo/Inside, both games are platformers with puzzle elements. The main character must go through a number of locations, overcome obstacles along the way and get rid of the enemies pursuing him.

3. The Evil Within Series

The brainchild of Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, talks about the consequences of experiments with a machine capable of uniting people's consciousnesses and creating new worlds based on them (spoiler: nothing good came of it). The main character of The Evil Within, detective Sebastian Castellanos, finds himself in an eerie surreal world inhabited by zombies, ghosts and other creatures.

Mikami, with his characteristic imagination, created a whole universe full of riddles, secrets and hints. Understanding the intricacies of the plot of The Evil Within is no less interesting than killing the possessed. However, the gameplay in the TEW series games is also all right: gamers can expect high-quality action, interspersed with stealth, the ability to upgrade the protagonist’s abilities and create ammunition for weapons.

2. Resident Evil series

The famous franchise, numbering several dozen games on various platforms, a number of books, several films and animated films.

Things haven't always been smooth sailing for the Resident Evil game line. Some horror games were not shown on PC, others were of dubious quality, and the series radically changed the direction of development several times. But with all this, Resident Evil remains one of the best horror franchises, in which you can find games for every taste: with an emphasis on action, with co-op, with classic “slow” gameplay and puzzles. First of all, you should pay attention to the numbered parts of Resident Evil 4, 5, 7, the Revelations subseries, as well as remasters of the first issues of the series.

1. Silent Hill series

We put the Silent Hill series in first place in the top scariest games. Inspired by various literary and film works, it plunges players into the depths of nightmares created by the subconscious of the heroes. Silent Hill is a city where terrible things have happened. Silent Hill is a place that makes all the hidden fears and desires of people come true. Silent Hill is a purgatory that punishes the sins of those who deserve it.

The first trilogy is considered the best in the series. In turn, many call Silent Hill 2 the best in the trilogy - the one where the famous Pyramid Head comes from. This is not only horror, but also a great story, the ending of which makes you think seriously. However, the remaining issues of the series, in addition to the first three parts, are also worthy of attention. Not all of them were released on PC, but with the help of emulators you can fill these gaps. Alas, today the series is officially dead, and one can only hope that someday Konami will decide to revive it.

There has recently been an addition to this series: a new Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs has been released, which has not yet gained the same popularity as its older sister, Amnesia: The Dark Descent. This one of the scariest games is still, since its release in 2010, popular and frightening as before, although it has been covered far and wide. It would seem that what’s so scary about a game where the main character doesn’t leave the basements of a dark castle, solve puzzles and doesn’t pick up a weapon? But if you don't have a shotgun in your hands, finding yourself face to face with monsters is much scarier. You will have to run away from any enemy, hastily confusing similar doors and corridors, and at some point it will seem that there is no escape from the disgusting creatures.

2. Silent Hill

The series of “horror films” by the Japanese company Konami has won the hearts and spoiled the nerves of millions of fans around the world. The games take place in the town of Silent Hill, which lives outside of space, time and the laws of physics: in it, all the hidden fears of a person become reality and take on grotesque and very frightening forms. We take a piece of pipe, a flashlight, a radio that warns with the noise of interference about the presence of the supernatural - and fearlessly rush to complete the plot tasks. Still fearless... because very soon, after solving a couple of puzzles with hanged corpses and running from the Pyramid Head Monster, courage will quickly dissipate into ashes in the wind.

Pyramid Head

3. SCP: Containment breach

First there was the online encyclopedia “SCP Foundation” (“Special Containment Conditions”) - a secret Foundation of all kinds of anomalies. Half comic, half creepy census of non-existent objects, creatures and phenomena of which only imagination is capable. Several indie games based on the activities of the Foundation are the work of ardent fans of the project, so the atmosphere of the secret organization and its internal routine is conveyed with a bang. It’s easy to guess that a breakthrough in security systems will not end well... You’ll have to run through the tangled corridors of the Foundation without weapons, maps and hope of salvation, because all the worst and most dangerous objects have escaped from their dungeons and are eager to meet. Take, for example, object 173, Sculpture, in which you are strictly forbidden to blink. By the way, the blink desire indicator is an important detail of the game interface.

4. Dead Space

Games about zombies are already boring, and shooters with horror elements won’t surprise anyone. But the Dead Space series is a story about how difficult it is to fight a new race of unkillable living dead in a space station. And the conditions are not the same, and the zombies are unusual: necromorphs, unlike their dead earthly counterparts, acquired a large number of extra limbs and acquired their own specializations. The second game in the series generally begins with the main character, wrapped in a straitjacket, forced to flee from a horde of angry necromorphs throughout the station, slowly crawling over numerous obstacles. And no mercy to the player’s nerve cells!

5. Slender: The Eight Pages

When talking about scary games, it is impossible to remain silent about the Thin Man. As in the story with SCP, first there was a horror story, and then the Internet fell in love with Slender so much that craftsmen created an indie game about him, which is rightfully considered one of the scariest in the last few years. The plot is simple: the main character, taking a video camera, wanders through the dark forest and from time to time discovers notes from children hiding from the Thin Man. The player's task is to find all 8 notes and not die. No weapons, no equipment, the simplest controls only involve moving in the four directions of the world, and the heroine often gets tired and takes a breathless step. But the more notes the heroine collects, the greater the opportunity to meet the Thin Man, who appears literally out of nowhere, and in order to die, it is enough to let him come within a couple of steps...

6. The Suffering

A prison is an unpleasant place in all respects, and a prison built on the site of torture dungeons does not bode well by its very existence. The main character is convicted of murdering his own family and, in exile on a prison island, discovers that the place of his imprisonment is simply teeming with the very material ghosts of souls who were once tortured here. Monsters are mutilated by game designers with love and imagination, each of them personifies the way in which it was killed. An interesting detail of the gameplay: killings make the hero angrier and angrier, and in the end, when the rage scale is filled, the character himself temporarily becomes a monster, tearing apart the enemy with his bare hands - not without side effects, of course.

7. F.E.A.R.

A dead girl, torment, anger and aggression, psychic abilities, other worlds, cruel scientists, secret military services - all in one bottle! The plot of the game revolves around a girl with enormous telepathic power and placed in an artificial coma, but the player will be able to understand what is really happening and who all these people are only at the end of the game, no matter which of the eleven endings he gets. The game delights with frightening interiors, “smart” opponents and frequent hallucinations of the main character, which are often indistinguishable from reality and are quite confusing. Such “arrivals” not only slightly change the gameplay, but also allow you to find out the details of a very creepy and confusing story.

8. BioShock

It's hard to call BioShock a horror game, but out of the entire series, the first game was definitely scary. The underwater city of Rapture, half-flooded, inhabited by mutant drug addicts, keeps such secrets that it would be better for the main character not to appear there, even if he ended up there as a result of a plane crash. Even though Bioshock is first and foremost a great first-person shooter, and the story, while frightening, would not be suitable for a horror film, the attention to detail of the designers and writers is sometimes so concentrated that it makes you wince. Just look at the detailed scene of killing a man with a golf club, shown in first person!

Hello everyone, dear friends. Everyone remembers scary stories from childhood told by friends. Everyone loved to give free rein to their fantasies, which brought out their most cherished fears, depicted frightening pictures, monsters under beds and behind cabinets, and invented all kinds of scary creatures.

Even years later, nothing has changed, and now grown-up “children” still love to tickle their nerves. Modern scary computer games can help with this very well.

So, TOP 10 of the scariest games on PC that will make your soul sink.

10. Penumbra

A top game called Penumbra starts. The creators filled it with a frightening atmosphere of horror, so that the time you spent in the game was filled with fear. The developers have already released a similar one, which is considered quite popular, the name of the game is Amnesia. They have similarities to each other: everything is from the first person, which allows you to immerse yourself even more in the frightening atmosphere.

There is an interesting and addictive plot telling about a man named Philip. His father disappears, who is soon declared dead, the man refuses to believe and goes on a search himself. His search leads him to old abandoned Greenland tunnels, into which Philip, not thinking about the danger, climbs. On the way into the tunnels, the stairs break. It is from this moment that his “adventure” begins.

Penumbra consists of three parts, continuing the previous part, if you still decide to go through, then go through all the parts!

9. SCP 087

Ninth place is taken by the game SCP 087. The beginning begins with the stairs. But what's so scary about stairs? But everything is not so simple, for the first 10 minutes of the game you will have to go down these stairs, imagining the most terrible horrors that may appear in the consuming darkness. But it seems like nothing interesting, but as it turns out, inside the darkness there really can be creatures that can kill you.

SCP 087 has an interesting feature - a blink indicator. You can simply watch the monster standing in front of you, but if you blink, consider yourself dead. The game is aimed at constant action, so don't miss a moment!

8. Slender

The eighth place in the TOP is occupied by the cult one - Slender. Everyone knows the horror story about the long man in a funeral suit. And so Internet users decided to create their own game based on the frightening character. The toy may not be the scariest, but it can definitely make you nervous and scared. The atmosphere of a dark forest and a constant chase gets on your nerves and attracts you even more.

The plot is that you are a girl - police officer Kate, who is investigating the mysterious disappearance of children. The idea is to find 7 notes. Your task is not to get caught by Slender, otherwise he will take you with him, and if anything happens, run away.

7. Doom 3

The third part of the Doom game was obliged to get into this TOP, because this part is a cult among horror games. Each series of this game is directly related to each other.

You are on Mars and you are surrounded by hellish creatures who are ready to destroy everything in their path. The narrative begins with a familiar plot that does not foreshadow anything terrible. And then, after a couple of moments, utter horror begins, immersing you in the atmosphere of the legendary game. The bottom line is that you need to do whatever you want - but survive. Don't stop for a split second or you'll fall prey to the monsters too quickly.

6. Outlast

Sixth place is taken by a game that has attracted a huge number of players. The plot draws you in with its chilling atmosphere of a mental hospital, frightening jump scares and unexpected twists in the story. You are a hero who received a note that in a certain hospital for the mentally ill they are conducting terrible experiments on people. You go to the hospital, without taking a weapon with you, at night. Very smart, isn't it? Well, at least I had my camera with me. You will see a sea of corpses, blood and cruelty. Just the thing for horror lovers.

5. F.E.A.R.

Here is the long-awaited shooter in the TOP horror games. Japanese developers worked on it. The main character of the horror film is a ghostly girl who came to take revenge. The only negative is that there is no free world in it, but considering that this is a shooter, all complaints disappear.

4. Amnesia: The Dark Descent

The fourth line is occupied by the creation of the creators of the game, which ranks 10th in the TOP. This game truly deserves to be in this TOP, because this horror shows a complete and hopeless lack of protection against fate. The main character is the guy Daniel, he just woke up... And found himself in the middle of an empty castle, remembering absolutely nothing. Everything would be fine, but only he is followed by a chase, but those who are chasing him are terrible monsters who want to dine on them. You have absolutely no weapons - fight with everything you can get your hands on.

3. Dead Space

The top three is opened by a cult game called Dead Space. A telling name, isn't it? In the story, you live in outer space and your ship is attacked by bloodthirsty monsters - Necromorphs. It would seem that a couple of shots and they are dead. But no. To kill a creature you need to tear it into pieces. The game consists of several parts, so it's perfect for space lovers.

2.Resident Evil

Resident Evil is a game truly worthy of second place, because over almost 17 years of its existence its progress has progressed noticeably. It meets all the requirements of even an experienced gamer, so it deserves to take second place among the TOP.

1. Silent Hill

And finally the first place in the TOP. What really occupies him is the most frightening and exciting game. Based on the plot of which two films of the same name were made. Silent Hill attracts the gamer with its atmosphere, the player is under constant tension, it is thanks to it that you are in constant anticipation of something terrible. Horror - the game is depressing and luring, you are constantly waiting for an attack and so on all the time. In general, play and check for yourself.

And on this note, I forgive you. Share information with friends and subscribe to the blog. See you soon, dear readers.

More recently, it was extremely difficult to find something in the gaming industry that could fray the nerves of horror fans. The legendary “Resident Evil” has long left its role in the direction of an action movie with elements of survival. But quite recently (literally 3 years ago) the picture began to change very much. There are a lot of horror films that have been released that can really make you pause the game to catch your breath from the fright. So why don't we make our own top 10 scariest games?

10th place: The Binding of Isaac

The gods demanded a sacrifice from her, and the woman’s choice fell on her own child. The kid flees to the basement, where he encounters the evil forces that reside there. Now he needs to look for his missing brothers and sisters, while simultaneously fighting off or running away from the monsters who want to feast on him.

9th place: Alien: Isolation

A game based on the original 1979 horror film. The player takes control of the daughter of Ellen Ripley, famous from the film, Amanda. The plot takes place between the first and second films, as the sole survivor of the infamous Nostromo flies on a lifeboat towards the nearest inhabited world. She is considered missing, and her daughter, who has become quite an adult during her flight, is looking for her mother. And then the news comes that the Nostromo flight recorder has been found and delivered to one of the trading stations. While Amanda flies there, several years pass - during this time the station goes into isolation due to the complete anarchy going on there. People kill each other for food, and meanwhile they are all hunted by some alien monster - that same “alien.” The game is created entirely in the style of the original film.

8th place: Hektor

A very unusual horror film in which the player will take on the role of an unknown poor fellow who manages to end up in a secret research complex. It is believed that he was subjected to experiments, like many of his predecessors. Now the player will have to get out of this creepy place, trying not to catch the eye of various ugly mutants. One of the standout features of the game is that the player character suffers from a mental disorder. And therefore he needs to take medicine regularly. If he does not do this constantly, then the world around him will begin to change under the influence of his progressive illness. And there aren't that many pills around...

7th place: Daylight

A kind of horror film, which is about a young girl. She somehow ended up in an abandoned, gloomy hospital without electricity. She remembers absolutely nothing, and the only thing that catches her eye first is her smartphone. He will play a key role in the game. The girl will be able to use a map and a flashlight on it. In addition, it will be possible to select additional tools for illuminating the surrounding area - chemical light sticks and firecrackers. Each of them is used for specific purposes. An unknown man directs the girl to search for certain memories, which are represented by notes. Having collected the required amount, the girl can move to the next level. This whole process is accompanied by inexplicable phenomena, as well as the unexpected appearance of the ghost of a woman who will try to kill the player.

6th place: Monstrum

A creepy thriller in which the player will have to make a lot of efforts to escape from a cargo ship on which something inexplicable happened. As the game progresses, you will have to piece together the clue to what happened, and also diligently avoid the creepy creatures that live everywhere. The character does not have the ability to fight, so he will have to run and hide. In certain places, the player will have the opportunity to block the road behind him to protect his rear. A very atmospheric game that has received a lot of positive reviews from both critics and players.

5th place: Knock-Knock

An unusual domestic horror film, which rightfully occupies the middle position in our top 10 scariest games of 2015. The player takes control of a strange young man who is tormented by insomnia. Over time, sleep deprivation has affected the hero’s state of mind - every night now turns into a waking nightmare. He does not recognize his own house, and soon after there is a knock on the front door, he finds it open. The young man must move around the house, turn on the lights so that he can find objects behind which he can hide. Invisible forces constantly force him to leave each newfound safe place, breaking light bulbs or turning off the power. But it would be half the trouble if it were just interruptions in the light - strange creatures are hunting for the hero. Soon the hero ceases to understand - is this the fruit of his sick mind, or is this all happening in reality?

4th place: The Evil Within

A new game from the creator of the legendary Resident Evil. This game embodies the entire development of the horror genre in games. Experienced gamers will find here pieces of all the most famous games of this type in this creepy world. According to the plot, the player takes on the role of a detective who arrives on an urgent call to one of the private psychiatric hospitals. There was a real massacre in the lobby of the establishment - many corpses. Soon the detective will be faced with such inexplicable phenomena that he himself will involuntarily begin to think about his mental state. In the best traditions of the classics, the hero will resist ugly creatures, using a variety of weapons, and often simply stealth, since he will not always be able to go out against the superior forces of evil openly.

3rd place: Among the Sleep

So, the bronze medalist of our rating. An extremely outstanding horror game in which the player will play the role of... a two-year-old child. The parents are divorced, and the little boy lives with his mother. Just on the night after his birthday, he finds himself in a strange story - the bear his dad gave him disappears and the crib turns over. Now the child will have to go in search of a friend, and then together with him look for the reasons for what is happening, as well as for the missing mother. The main feature of the game is the peculiarities of children's perception, when even ordinary thunder looks like a truly terrible phenomenon, which makes you feverishly run under the bed. The game very realistically realizes the characteristics of a child. For example, a hero moves faster when crawling than standing, and in order to open doors he has to drag chairs towards them. During the course of the plot, Mishka gives advice and tries in every possible way to protect his friend from the evil witch pursuing them. Thanks to this game, many adult gamers will be able to remember how scared they were at night as a child...

2nd place: Five Nights at Freddy's

Silver goes to an unusual game released by literally one person. The entire trilogy (the fourth part is being prepared for release this summer) deserves the close attention of those who like to tickle their nerves. According to many publishers, the game broke all records in its genre. The essence in all parts is extremely simple. The player takes on the role of a security guard at a certain pizzeria, where animatronics in the form of a fox, rabbit, chicken and bear are used to entertain children. The hero changes from midnight to 6 am. Suddenly, the animatronics during this period open the hunting season for the guard, and he has to hold the line. Contrary to classical principles, there are no weapons here. Each part has its own defense mechanism against bloodthirsty robots: in the first part you need to block the doors to the security post, in the second you need to put on a bear mask in time so that the animatronics take it for your own, and in the third you need to block the ventilation passages and lead the enemy in circles using the audio system. With all this, there are certain limiting factors, for example, running out of electricity, without which it is impossible to close the doors in the first part. The security guard can watch the movement of the villains through the video surveillance system to know in advance how to know the trouble.

1st place: Outlast

Completes top 10 scariest games, probably the best game in this genre, and for fans of games on this topic, this decision most likely will not come as a surprise. It was this game that revolutionized the horror genre, giving us characters who don’t have cool weapons with which to shoot the evil spirits jumping out from around the corners. Here, for the first time, the hero cannot defend himself, and is only able to run and hide. It is no longer possible to list the number of followers of this pioneer. According to the plot, a certain correspondent ends up on the territory of a destroyed psychiatric hospital, where experiments were carried out on patients. And, as often happens, something went wrong. Now the hero is forced to investigate what happened, and also try to stay alive and not catch the eye of numerous disfigured psychos who strive to send the correspondent to the next world for one reason or another. Of all the tools, the player has only a video camera that has zoom functions (can be used as binoculars) and night vision. In addition, thanks to it, you can play through the game in “subjective camera” mode, which significantly increases interest. A little later after release, the game acquired an addon. Here the players took control of the very informant who led the correspondent to this God-damned place. While in the original we delved into the bowels of the hospital, here we have to do the opposite, to get out.
