How to get rid of fear when left alone at home. Night terror in the big house

Does the mere thought of being alone at home fill you with dread? Read the following tips to overcome your fears and stay safe and calm alone at home.

Steps

Check the whole house. Walk through your entire home as soon as everyone has left, but before you have any fears. You also need to look behind all the sofas, into the niches between doors and walls and check each room. Doing this may seem stupid, but it will help you avoid becoming paranoid later. Turn on the lights everywhere.

Latch all doors and windows. Then go into each room again and check that all doors and windows are securely locked. Re-checking any room gives you a sense of security and confidence that all doors and windows are closed.

identify sound sources. Has it ever happened that you were tormented by terrible guesses because of a strange sound, but it simply turned out that it was water dripping from a canopy on the street? Identify the sources of any sounds that might startle you so you know what to expect.

Check the blinds and doors. Keep your blinds open during the day. As long as there is more light outside than in the house, it will be difficult to peer into your windows from the outside. At night, the opposite is true, so if you are alone at home, close the blinds as soon as it gets dark. If you can view most rooms with open door, leave it open. If you can only see part of the room when you look through a doorway (such as a roll-up staircase or a bathroom with a separate closet), close the door. This way, you'll be less nervous about someone sneaking up in a place you can't see well.

Turn on something loud. If you hear scary noises in your home, turn on the TV and listen to music. When you can no longer hear squeaks and other strange sounds, you will stop being nervous.

Get distracted by something else. If you're still nervous, find something to do. Finish your Spanish presentation. Build a pillow fort for your pet. Clean your house! Keep your hands and mind busy.

I want to tell you one thing mystical story which happened to me this summer. My friend Dasha (she’s like a sister to me, we’ve been friends for a long time) her grandmother died, and she and I went to the village, we needed help. When the funeral and wake were over, Dasha’s grandfather said that he needed to go to the city to get a death certificate or something like that and left.

I took everyone who came to the wake home, and at that time Dasha took the neighbor’s kid home. I took care of the pile of dirty dishes. After washing some of the dishes, we went to bed in the hall, tired.

In the middle of the night Dasha woke me up and said: “Alena, are we alone at home or is someone left?”(their house is very big). I told her that we were alone, but Dasha stood her ground and said that she heard someone calling her. I reassured her that she was nervous and tired, so it seemed. She turns over on the other side and screams! I immediately turned around with her. And her eyes almost popped out of their sockets. She shows me to the window. Looking at the window, I felt creepy: someone was standing in the window, someone’s silhouette. Immediately I thought it was a lantern light, and that’s why it seemed like someone was there.

I am generally skeptical about ghosts, etc. Dasha suggested going to bed in the bedroom with no windows. After making the bed, we headed there.

In the morning we woke up to a call from Dasha’s mother, she asked us to light a candle in front of a photo of my grandmother. Entering the hall, I was left in a precipitate: the bed, which we made at night, was dismantled. I thought that at night it seemed to me that we had filled it. Although I remember exactly how we did it. It was never possible to light the candle, as it constantly went out. We went to have breakfast and everyone went about their business.

In the evening, Dasha’s grandfather called and said that he would be staying in the city for a couple of days. This news made me feel uneasy. Dasha and I went to bed, she immediately woke me up and said that she heard the door open and someone come in. We thought it was Dasha's mother, because grandfather was late. We went to look, but there was no one there, and besides our shoes, there was no one else. Returning to the room, we noticed that a candle was burning in the hall. Dasha pushed me, pointed to the chair and said that someone was sitting there. And he really seems to be sitting: his feet are in slippers and his skirt is long.

Dasha grabbed my hand, and I, plucking up courage, turned on the light. And she was dumbfounded: there was no one in the chair. Dasha began to sob and immediately went to look for the keys to the house, but they were nowhere to be found, as if someone didn’t want us to leave. We turned on the lights throughout the house and went to bed.

In the morning I woke up and saw that the light was off. But neither I nor Dasha turned it off. We spent the whole day in the garden, as it was very scary at home. Night was already falling and Dasha invited me to spend the night on the street, but I refused: I said that it was even worse on the street.

We had just started to fall asleep when someone knocked on the door, Dasha did not let me open! But I told her, maybe it’s your aunt who’s running away from her drunkard husband and asking to spend the night. We went with her to the door, I asked who was there, but no one answered. Dasha looked out the window and said that someone was sitting on the bench. I opened the door, but there was no one on the bench, only someone was sitting on the porch. Closing the door, I thought that Dasha was joking. But she began to cry and said that someone was sitting there.

We had just gotten back into bed when I heard water running in the kitchen. I got up and went there. Entering the kitchen, I saw Dasha’s grandmother near the sink, wearing the clothes she was buried in. She was washing the dishes. Out of fear, I ran into the room and started crying. Later, Dasha and I went to the kitchen, but there was no one there. And there were no dishes in the sink that Dasha and I left after dinner. Dasha opened the drying rack; there were plates there and water was dripping from them. That night we couldn’t close our eyes.

In the morning my grandfather arrived and we immediately left for the city. At home we told all this to Dasha’s mother, but she laughed and said that we had a good imagination. But a week later Dasha’s grandfather came and said that something was wrong in the house. After 40 days everything disappeared and became calm. And my mother said that it was just my late grandmother who didn’t want to leave.
Believe it or not, I told you the honest truth. As soon as I remember this scary story, I immediately begin to tremble.

I want to tell you a mystical story that happened not to me, but to other girls this summer. One of my friends told me this story. Daria’s grandmother died, and she and her friend went to the village, they needed help. When the funeral and wake were over, Dasha’s grandfather said that he needed to go to the city to get a death certificate or something like that, and left. The girl took everyone who came to the wake home, and at that time Dasha took the neighbor’s boy home. The girl busied herself with a pile of dirty dishes. After washing some of the dishes, they tiredly went to bed in the hall. In the middle of the night, the girl (let's call her Alexandra) was woken up by her friend Dasha and said: “Sasha, are we alone at home or is someone left?” (Their house is very big). Sasha told her that they were alone, but Daria stood her ground and claimed that she heard someone call her. Alexandra reassured her friend, saying that she was nervous and tired, that’s why it seemed. She turned over on the other side and screamed! Sasha immediately turned around with her, and her eyes almost popped out of their sockets. Dasha began pointing out the window to Sasha. Looking at the window, Sasha felt creepy: someone was standing in the window, someone’s silhouette. Immediately she thought that it was a lantern light, and therefore it seemed that someone was there.
Sasha is generally skeptical about ghosts, apparitions, etc. Dasha suggested going to bed in the bedroom with no windows. After making the bed they went there.
In the morning they woke up to a call from Dasha’s mother, she asked them to light a candle in front of a photo of their grandmother.
