Organ evenings in Kuskovo. “Organ evenings in Kuskovo” – 2017. Program of the festival “Organ Evenings in Kuskovo”
Organ evenings in Kuskovo – 2017
The Moscow estate, the former residence of the Sheremetevs, will host the Organ Evenings in Kuskovo festival for the eighth time.
From May 27 to August 26, 2017, more than a hundred performers will appear on the stage of the Dance Hall of the Kuskovo Museum-Estate Palace.
The artistic director and organizer of the project, the famous organist Elena Privalova-Epstein, invited the best groups and soloists performing European ancient music, masterpieces of Russian classics, jazz and works of modern composers to participate in the festival.
The main “hero” of the festival will be the digital two-manual organ of the Italian company Viscount, provided by the Grandpiano company. Twenty-seven concert programs will reveal the multifaceted universal capabilities of the musical instrument.
A performance by the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra (artistic director Misha Rakhlevsky) opens the festival together with Elena Privalova-Epstein.
By tradition, the musical project will end with a performance by the Baroque Chapel “Golden Age” (artistic director Alexander Listratov). “Concert in the old style” will be performed by artists of the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra. P. I. Tchaikovsky, and “The Seasons” by A. Vivaldi will be performed by the Antonio-orchestra Chamber Orchestra (artistic director and conductor - Anton Paisov).
Each concert of the festival is focused on the main task - to present the organ as an instrument of unlimited possibilities. The festival program includes works of all eras, from the Renaissance and Baroque to modern improvisations by composers and organists - Fyodor Stroganov and Olesya Rostovskaya.

Harp and oboe, flute and saxophone, duduk and panflute, theremin, viola da gamba, baroque violin and many other ancient and modern musical instruments will become partners of the organ in programs with the participation of seventeen leading organists from Russia, the Baltic states and Germany. Among them are such musicians as Evgenia Lisitsyna, Alexey Shevchenko, Fyodor Stroganov, Alexander Udaltsov, Olesya Kravchenko and Timur Khaliullin.
The poster is also decorated with the names of harpists Anna Shkurovskaya and Nadezhda Sergeeva, multi-instrumentalist Sergei Poltavsky, guitarist Dmitry Murin, oboist Ivan Paisov and many others. A separate genre direction of the festival will be vocal concerts with organ, in which eminent Russian soprano Oksana Lesnichaya and Bolshoi Theater soloist Ekaterina Shcherbachenko will perform.
The festival “Organ Evenings in Kuskovo” gains more and more friends and fans every year. This project combines tradition and novelty of musical material, surrounding listeners with ancient architecture and the proximity of a modern urban environment, the chamber sound of baroque instruments and the scale of the largest instrument in the history of music.
Finally, affordable prices for elite concerts give reason to consider the Organ Evenings in Kuskovo festival a popular, relevant educational project.

Press service of the festival “Organ Evenings in Kuskovo”
In the summer of 2019 in Moscow, in the palace of the Kuskovo estate, the former residence of the She-remetevs near Moscow, the Tenth Summer Music Festival “Organ Evenings in Kuskovo” will be held. The organ, the “king of musical instruments,” first sounded in the estate in 2010. The initiator and permanent artistic director of the festival is the famous organist Elena Privalo-Epshtein. Initially a project of young performers, the festival over ten years has turned into one of the leading summer music forums in the capital. Leading Russian organists, stars of the opera stage, instrumental soloists and early music ensembles perform in Kuskovo every year. Over the course of three months, more than 20 concerts are held; over ten years, about 40 thousand people attended them.
The program of the anniversary “Organ Evenings” will bring together the best performers who have performed in Kuskovo for ten years, as well as no less outstanding debutants of the festival. Leading Russian organists will perform solo concerts: Alexander Knyazev, Alexey Shmitov, Evgenia Lisitsyna and Alexey Shevchenko. The exquisite programs of Alexander Knyazev, a brilliant cellist and no less talented organist, always attract a large number of listeners. In 2019, he will present organ versions of J. S. Bach’s “Organ Book” (August 7) and “Goldberg Variations” (August 10) cycles. Alexey Shmitov will perform on June 5 with the program “In Sorrow and Joy. Organ Kaleidoscope”, which will include works by French and German composers from different eras. On July 6, Evgeniya Lisitsyna (Latvia) will perform J. S. Bach’s choral preludes, as well as her own organ versions of two concerts from the “Seasons” cycle by A. Vivaldi and the “Pictures at an Exhibition” cycle by M. Mussorgsky. On August 3, Alexey Shevchenko will again present J. S. Bach’s Organ Mass, the performance of which at the 2016 festival received an ovation and high praise from the public. The festival will also be attended by the outstanding organist from the Netherlands, Jean-Pierre Stivers, winner of the 1st prize at the J. S. Bach competitions in Dublin and Lucerne, the 1st prize at the First International Organ Competition named after M. Tariverdiev and other awards. In addition to the recognized masterpieces of European organ music, on July 17 in Kuskovo he will present rarely performed “pieces in canonical form” for organ or pedal piano by R. Schumann, as well as an organ arrangement of A. Borodin’s symphonic painting “In the steppes of Central Asia” - a worthy gift to discerning Russians listeners.
The artistic director of the festival, Elena Privalova-Epstein, will take part in the opening and closing of the festival, as well as in several chamber concerts. She will perform organ works by J. S. Bach and S. Frank, and will also perform as a soloist in an ensemble with musicians of the Rusquartet quartet (opening concert, May 25), the Antonio-orchestra (July 3), and violinists Gaik Kazazyan (June 29) and Tigran Maitesyan (August 14). On July 27, the owner of the enchanting soprano, soloist of the Bolshoi Theater Ekaterina Shcherbachenko, whose concerts have more than once graced the “Organ Evenings” poster, will appear on stage with her. And finally, the “ensemble of co-listers” at the closing concert of the festival on August 31: organist Elena Privalova-Epstein, famous Russian violinist Roman Mints and brilliant pianist Evgeny Brakhman. They will perform works by romantic composers, including a rare combination of organ and piano parts.
On June 22, the talented Japanese organist, graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, Hiroko Inoue, will perform in Kuskovo, both solo and in a duet with the famous saxophonist Veronica Kozhukharova. In addition to the masterpieces of J. S. Bach and S. Frank, the program promises musical rarities: works by J. Cabanilles, W. Bird, G. F. Telemann.
A regular participant in the festival is the Baroque Chapel “Golden Age”, the leading Russian ensemble in the field of ancient music, whose repertoire includes works of the 16th-18th centuries, performed on historical instruments. At the tenth festival, the choir will perform a new program (June 1), which will include not only instrumental concerts that form the basis of its repertoire, but also vocal and instrumental works: cantatas by J. S. Bach and D. Buxtehude (soloist - Lyubov Sharomova, soprano ). The artistic director of the choir Alexander Listratov, soloists Fatima Lafisheva, Rust Pozyumsky and Alexey Shevchenko will also perform chamber programs at the festival.
The anniversary “Organ Evenings” will be especially rich in vocal programs. This is the first performance at the festival of the vocal ensemble of ancient music “House of Muses” (June 15), performing music of the Renaissance and early Baroque. This is also a concert by the Intrada ensemble, one of the most successful young vocal groups, which captivated audiences with its impeccable performance of J. S. Bach’s motets at the Eighth Festival. The ensemble's concert scheduled for August 24 will also include works by J. S. Bach. For the first time, the soloist of the Lithuanian and Latvian Opera Houses, mezzo-soprano Anastasia Lebedyantseva, will come to the festival with a program of works by G. F. Handel, A. Vivaldi, P. Mascagni, C. Gounod and N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov (August 21, organ part - Olesya Kravchenko). And the soloist of the Chuvash Opera Theater Margarita Finogentova and the soloist of the Musical Theater named after K. S. Stanislavsky and Vl. I. Nemirovaich-Danchenko Dmitry Kondratkov together with organist Anastasia Chertok is preparing an original program “Love Misunderstandings” (July 24). It will include arias and ensembles from ancient operas, which can rarely be heard on the theater stage. Including operas by G. Purcell, G. F. Handel, J.-B. Lully, G.F. Telemann, J.-F. Rameau, A. Vivaldi and F. Cavalli. Such an exquisite vocal and organ “dessert” has never been served in Kuskovo!
According to tradition, the organ in Kuskovo will sound in an ensemble with many different instruments: June 12 - in a duet with classical guitar (Dmitry Murin and Margarita Eskina), June 19 - with oboe (Ivan Paisov and Alexander Udaltsov), June 22 - with saxophone (Veronica Kozhukharova and Hiroko Inoue), June 29 and August 14 - with violin (Hayk Kazazyan, Tigran Maytesyan and Elena Privalova-Epstein), July 10 - with mandolin (Ekaterina Pripuskova and Maria Lesovichenko), July 13 - with baroque cello ( Alexander Listratov and Alexey Shevchenko), August 17 - with baroque violin (Fatima Lafisheva and Elena Strizhakova). The unusual trio saxophone-harp-organ (Yuri Tashtamirov, Aidana Karasheva and Igor Goldenberg) will once again delight listeners with “Unboring Classics”, performing original arrangements of classical instrumental miniatures on June 8. And on July 20, we invite fans of musical authenticity to Kuskovo: Sergei Poltavsky (viola d'amore), Oleg Boyko (lute, guitar), Rust Pozyumsky (viola da gamba) and Anna Orlova (organ) will perform works of the Baroque era, the sound appearance of which will correspond the time of their writing.
At the same time, the center of all festival programs, of course, will be the organ - one of the most complex and multifaceted musical instruments. In 2018, thanks to a crowdfunding program, the organizers were able to purchase a three-manual digital organ, Viscount, a modern instrument with exceptionally rich capabilities. Thanks to the presence of its own instrument, the festival does not spend money on renting it, which allows it to maintain affordable ticket prices. The permanent location of the organ in Kuskovo allowed the “Organ Evenings” to expand its time frame: in addition to the summer festival, the estate now hosts one organ concert every month, and a small winter festival during the New Year holidays.
The program of the festival “Organ Evenings in Kuskovo” will be of interest to both connoisseurs of organ art and a wide audience. The magnificent interiors of the Sheremetev estate and the shady alleys of its French regular park attract a large number of tourists, as well as residents of nearby Moscow districts. A cozy chamber atmosphere, the unique sound of the organ and the high skill of the performers - all this is “Organ Evenings in Kuskovo”.
