An exhibition of landscape works by Peter Serkin and Alexander Nechaev opens in the exhibition hall

The favorite genre of many artists and painting lovers has been and remains the landscape - epic, lyrical, urban, rural... The landscape theme is endless. Both those who are just beginning their journey in art and those who have long devoted their talent and experience to this genre turn to her. The task of a landscape painter is not just to reflect reality, but to create an artistic image, a unique symbol in a special sensual form that can excite the viewer.

The artist Alexei Savrasov (1830 – 1897), an outstanding landscape painter, the pioneer of Russian lyrical landscape, formulated the task for his students when creating an image of nature: “To find in the simplest and most ordinary those intimate, deeply touching, often sad features that are so strongly felt in our native landscape and have such an irresistible effect on the soul.”

The work of two Vyatka painters - Pyotr Serkin and Alexander Nechaev - very accurately corresponds to the characteristics of the landscape genre. Everyone has their own understanding of reality, their own motives, their own sound of color. But for both of them, simply admiring the beauty of the motif is not enough; it is important for them to talk about something within themselves through images of the “world around”.

With this exhibition Pyotr Vasilyevich Serkin celebrates his 60th birthday.

In 1980, he graduated with honors from the Kirov Regional Art School and nine years later was admitted to the Union of Artists of Russia.

Landscape in the work of Peter Serkin occupies a special place, and landscape created not within the walls of the workshop, but in the open air. This love for plein airs arose at the creative dachas “Goryachiy Klyuch”, “Chelyuskinskaya”, “Academic Dacha”, where communication with fellow artists contributed to the discovery of new opportunities for self-expression.

The main concern of an artist in the plein air is to preserve his work from the flow of rain and wind; everything else is a matter of mood and mood. Moreover, Pyotr Vasilyevich is sure that it is the mood, a serious and thoughtful attitude towards one’s time-limited work that determines the quality of the creation. Also, the interpretation of the landscape surrounding the author and the ways of reflecting it in his work depend on the mood... And it is no longer so important whether you are on one of the streets of Paris or on the banks of the Vyatka River, the main thing is to be able to see something new that no one noticed in this world before.

The inquisitive eye of the painter is distinguished not just by the ability to see what surrounds him, but by the ability to highlight the best from this environment, which must then be presented with love and joy increasing from work to work. Even sadness in the works of Peter Serkin is permeated with light and warmth, and this is not only hope for possible happiness, but its implementation in every movement of the brush.

The difference between this exhibition of Peter Serkin and many others (and there have been more than twenty of them since 2000 alone) is that it marks a new stage in the artist’s creative search. His attitude to color and light in his works has changed, more brightness, color saturation and expression have appeared compared to the works of the late 1990s and early 2000s. In addition, most of the works presented at this exhibition were the result of visits to foreign plein airs, a kind of report on travels through European countries - France, Hungary, Poland.

Of course, the visitor will be able to see the familiar landscapes of the Vyatka outback, beloved by the artist; it will be all the more interesting to compare the author’s attitude towards such dissimilar, but intersecting worlds in his mind. It is important to note that Pyotr Vasilyevich, who perceives his native land with trepidation and respect, does not divide the world into friends and strangers and always remains open to new impressions.

New ideas are also born in the artist’s desire to understand the viewer’s attitude to his work, in the desire to penetrate into the very essence of the viewer’s impressions.

In dialogue with the viewer, in the analysis of what is depicted and seen, doubts are born, thanks to which, constantly transforming, the artist grows.

For Alexander Sergeevich Nechaev, this year also became an anniversary: the artist celebrates his 50th birthday.

He entered the Kirov Art School at the age of 22, having served in the army and two courses at the Correspondence People's University of Arts. As Alexander Nechaev recalls, he was older than others and studied seriously. He graduated from college in 1985, with honors.

Successful completion of college gave him the right to choose his place of work. And Alexander chose the village of Verkhoshizhemye, which was closer to home.

Residents of the village have long been accustomed to a lonely figure with a sketchbook on his back, hurrying to work in any weather. Sketches made in nature are the most precious thing for an artist. It is in them that future paintings are born.

Working in the open air for Alexander Nechaev, as once for his beloved teacher Ilyas Yumagulov, is the basis of painting.

For many years, Alexander Sergeevich worked in different genres: portraits, still lifes, but the main direction was and remains landscape. Russian nature with its quiet, discreet, exciting beauty is the main theme of his work. And Alexander Nechaev writes it in his own way, completely uniquely, at different times of the year and day, in its different states - sometimes light sadness, sometimes quiet joy. The land, forests, and rivers are especially attractive to him. The poetic image of Vyatka nature is based on the transfer of direct impressions from it.

Over twenty-five years of creative work, Alexander Nechaev has written a lot. His paintings stand out for their established style and character of painting. “I love broad, free, uninhibited, emotional painting,” notes the artist. A lyricist at heart, he is also a lyricist in his work.

She works continuously to perfect her painting skills. A trip to the Academic Dacha House of Creativity in 1988 was very important for him - to this creative workshop for many Russian artists, where, under the guidance of the master of painting Yuri Kugach, he learned the secrets of color harmony.

Alexander Nechaev continues the tradition of working together in the open air in his native Verkhoshizhemye, where Vyatka artists Andrei Shirokov, Pyotr Serkin, Denis Zelaev, Gennady Balakhnichev came to work more than once. Art school students also visited here. In the hospitable house on a high hill where Alexander Sergeevich lives, there was enough room for everyone.
