Considering the anti-religious orientation of that time, “Alive in the Help of Vyshnyago” was sewn in by seamstresses secretly from the management of the enterprise.

It is intended to protect believers from all kinds of misfortunes.

The tradition of sewing a psalm into a belt arose at the very dawn...

For He will deliver me from the snare of the trap, and from rebellious words: His lashes will overshadow you, and you trust under His wing: His truth will surround you with weapons. Do not be afraid from the fear of the night, from the arrow that flies during the day, from the thing that passes in darkness, from the cloak and demon of the midday. Thousands will fall from your country, and darkness will be at your right hand, but it will not come close to you: behold your eyes, and you will see the reward of sinners. For You, O Lord, are my hope: You have made the Most High your refuge. Evil will not come to you, and wound will not approach your body: as His Angel commanded you, keep you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their arms, but not when you dash your foot on a stone: you step on an asp and a basilisk, and cross a lion and a serpent. Because I have a catch, I will deliver you, and I will cover you, because you have known My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in sorrow, I will destroy him, and I will glorify him: with the length of the days...

Living in the help of the Most High, he will be established in the blood of God in Heaven.
The Lord says: You are my protector and my refuge, my God, and I trust in Him.
For He delivered you from the snare of the devil, and from the words of rebellion,
His blanket is upon you, and under His wing you trust: the child and His truth are the weapon of choice.
Not afraid from the fear of the night, from the flying arrow of the days,
from the thing in the darkness that passes away, from the debris, and the half-denyed demon.
You will fall from your country, and darkness will be at your right hand,
He will not come closer to you, both of whom are your eyes looking at your mother, and the reward of sinners is with Zrish.
For You are the Lord, my hope, You have made Your refuge.
Evil will not come to you, and injury will not come near your body,
I gave my commandment to my angel about you, keep you in all your ways.
They will hold you in their arms, but not when you hit your foot with a stone, write the snow on the AIDS and Vasily,
and I cross the lion and the serpent.

Prayer “Living in the help of the Most High” interpretation, the power of prayer, how prayer helps

The history of the origin of this prayer comes from the biblical book, which we know as the “Old Testament” - where it is assigned the number 90 (this is how this name arose). For Christians, prayer is defined by the first words - “Living in help.”

Opinions about the origins of the prayer are somewhat divided. According to some information, it was written by the Jewish king David. He wrote this prayer in the hope of healing his people from the terrible disease that was killing them. Historians write that this epidemic lasted only three days, and the prophet David wrote a Psalm as gratitude for God's great power - healing. Another prayer can be found under the name “David’s Song of Praise.”

Other information says that the prayer was written by the prophet Moses. Despite the disagreements and lack of consensus about the origin of prayer, no one doubts its power. The interpretation of the Psalm is based on the fact that faith in the Savior has special power.

  • God the Protector - everyone who lives with hope and faith in God can find refuge and refuge, salvation from difficulties in life
  • God the Savior is the main protector of the Orthodox
  • Prayer points to prophecy - the coming to Earth of Christ, called to save and protect man

Prayer “Alive in the help of the Most High”

What is the meaning of each verse of the prayer? Let's figure it out:

  • Whoever has God's help will be protected by his strength. Help must be understood as the law of the commandments that the Savior gave to help a person from adversity and troubles
  • He who has strong faith honors his Lord. A believer finds in God a reliable refuge, protection that he can hope for
  • God will protect from physical violence, manifestations of sin, passion, protect from slander, and rest the soul of the believer.
  • The verse on truth talks about being pure in your thoughts before God.
  • He who lives in harmony with the Lord receives blessings and help; he is not afraid of bad people (robbers, thieves), physical and mental blows of fate
  • He who has the help of the Lord ceases to be afraid of things that tempt him: laziness, carelessness
  • With God's help you can learn to see someone who wishes evil
  • If a person of deep faith greatly needs the help of his Savior and sees him as an intercessor, then he will be able to receive enormous protection from the Lord
  • A person who trusts in God will be protected from bodily evil, will be protected from illnesses and problems
  • God sends Guardian Angels to help a person in need
  • Angels will hold the believer in their arms so that he does not trip over a stone. The symbol of the power of protection is the Hands of Angels, which will protect from temptation and sin, difficult circumstances in life. Stone is a symbol of vice, which acts as an obstacle to the manifestation of goodness
  • God will protect you from terrible snakes and predators. Here are the names of poisonous snakes, such as asps and basilisks, which symbolize unacceptable qualities inherent in humans: slander and envy (both one’s own and from other people). Large predators Leo and Dragon are a symbol of cruelty and heartlessness. A person with an honest and righteous soul will be able to overcome such negative traits
  • A person hopes in God, because the Lord protects him all the time, protects him from the dangers of the world around him. The name of the Lord God can be recognized by that person who overcomes all sinful vices, can be above stupidity and cowardice, the one who sincerely lives according to the laws and commandments prescribed by the Protector
  • God will always hear a person who needs him if he calls him. God will be there in sorrow, in life, in the soul
  • The highest reward for a true believer will be eternal life, as well as a calm and long earthly life.

God hears everyone who calls him, who asks him, who trusts in him, God is like a caring “father” who with all his heart wants to help his child, find peace and quiet. Even a great sinner can receive the Lord’s mercy if, at the moment of conversion, he demonstrates his faith and hope for help.

“Living in help” in life works miracles: examples from life

As you know, there are many stories in which the knowledge and reading of prayers, the belief that they help in moments of danger and all kinds of difficulties, played a huge role. The prayer “Alive in Help” became relevant during the Great Patriotic War.

  • Thus, eyewitnesses talk about how Psalm 90 fulfills its protective function. During the war, the text of the prayer was sewn into the belt of a serviceman’s uniform, and then sent into battle. Considering the attitude of the then authorities towards the Orthodox Church, all this, of course, was done secretly and on their own initiative. Perhaps this is how mothers tried to protect their sons, husbands, and relatives from the destructive power of the enemy. Maybe this is how believing women saved many lives. A sheet of paper sewn into an overcoat with the prayer “Alive in Help” protected the soldier from the quick bullet of the invader and was the hope of salvation during hostilities.
  • From the post-war memoirs of the common man Leonid Mozgovoy, the story of the hero’s childhood has reached us. As a child who lost his father in the war in 1941, the boy was left in the care of his grandfather and sister. In memory of his mother, he only had one photograph and a piece of paper with the prayer “Alive in the help of the Most High.” My sister carefully sewed this piece of paper into her sleeveless shirt, during her childhood she diligently looked after it and kept it, and later forced her to memorize it. In those days, children found grenades, cartridges, shells, boasted about their trophies, there were accidents, but obviously God protected our hero.

  • There were street fights with knives and brass knuckles, many guys began to steal, prayer was still with the boy and kept him. There was a moment when the treasured piece of paper was lost and found only on the day of our hero’s departure. It would seem, so what’s unusual and supernatural about this? Only on that fateful day Lenya went on a business trip, where there was an accident in which two comrades died, and only he remained unharmed. Later, with age, when Leonid had children and grandchildren, he remembered his mother, who in memory of herself left a talisman that protected her son all his life.
  • There are also examples of how the miraculous power of prayer can heal illnesses. Very often people come to church who have been rejected by medicine, who are left alone with their illness. In this case, the priest listens to the person and usually recommends reading a prayer, always believing in a speedy recovery. Before this, of course, you need to confess, take communion, and only then begin reading the protective prayer. The psalm is read every day. There are known cases of healing from blindness, deafness, psychological disorders, tumors and other serious illnesses. The main thing is to read the words and text of the prayer correctly, diligently, so that the Lord God hears and instills faith in the soul for healing and recovery.

Prayer “Alive in Help” in Old Church Slavonic with emphasis

The reading and use of the prayer “Alive in Help” originates from Old Slavonic times. In those days, a knot on a ribbon or belt was considered a magical link that carried fantastic power and protection.

The Slavs thought that prayer protects precisely when a person wears it on himself. However, at that time the prayer, of course, was used in the Old Church Slavonic language.

It is difficult to listen and read the Psalm in this form the first time, since today few people can boast of knowledge of the Old Church Slavonic language. It is for this reason that the text of the protective prayer can also be found in Russian.

When to read the prayer “Alive in Help”?

  • Physical (war, persecution by authorities or the enemy, infringement by superiors)
  • Mental (evil thoughts, sins, desires)
  • To protect the child. If a child constantly carries the text of the Psalm with him, then his miraculous words will always protect the baby from big troubles, including illness and even death.
  • When you begin to carry out a new responsible task or business, you need to read the words of prayer, then the implementation of your plans will not cause difficulties

It is also worth mentioning some prayer rules that priests and deeply religious people recommend observing:

  • You need to read the text with a pure soul and sincerely
  • Penetrate the meaning of every word spoken
  • Honestly ask God for blessings and mercy
  • You should start every day with prayer
  • The prayer should be read several times a day

The prayer “Alive in Help” has truly enormous power that can work miracles. I would like to draw your attention to just one fact: in order for God to hear your prayer and your requests for help, you must first of all be honest with yourself. Only those who sincerely believe will receive the blessing of the Lord and his help.

Video: Protective prayer Psalm 90

Lately there has been a lot of talk about the fact that modern man does not know how to believe or pray, does not want to, and is not able to. Allegedly, the new rhythm and style of life does not at all correspond to the prayer traditions that have developed over centuries. But there is a prayer “Living Help” in Russian, which expresses the fullness of life of the human spirit. Private appeal to God of people who need protection, salvation, preservation of life and health, strive for repentance.

Prayer “Living Help”: full text in Russian

Do not forget that the conversation should not be a nice conversation, much less chatter. One cannot include only the everyday self and personal experience in prayers. Christian prayer is always characterized by the absence of personal self-expression. At the heart of the conversation is our relationship with God. You need to be able to build them and learn how to do this. The fragility of mutual understanding is always present in secular and spiritual conversation. When turning to the Almighty, one should not think that all this is self-deception and conversation with emptiness.

How to pray?

  1. On the day and hour when we become close to God, the formal style of prayer may seem inappropriate and insincere, but a certain lightness appears, a lack of constraint and a sense of trust. Find your own form of communication.
  2. The most difficult thing is to appear before God without any guise or mask. Just the way it is. When praying, seek only God.
  3. The difficulty in communication will only represent the effort, the tension associated with the ability to guess God's intention.
  4. The less free time a person has, the more necessary and valuable an hour of prayer will be.
  5. You should not turn a conversation with God into a short-term ritual. How much can you tell and hear during a five-minute train stop? Just gather your courage...
  6. The conversation should not be casual, but the main event at this hour.
  7. It is God’s business to teach us to act, and it is ours to correctly understand and carry out the teaching and advice.
  8. Know how to understand the prayer you are asking. Don't be a mechanical doll repeating sounds that don't have meaning.

Psalm 90 “Living Help” has powerful power. She saved the lives of many and protected them from injury and death. In ancient times, there was no person in Rus' who did not know it by heart. Where there was an impending threat or danger, this text was read. That's why they called her protective. Today, having become accustomed to magical devices that help memorize, many do not study, but carry the text with them so that they can refer to it at any moment.

Life becomes more colorful every year, but this only adds to the dangers.

Church Slavonic version of the prayer “Alive in Help”

“He who lives in the help of the Most High will dwell in the shelter of the heavenly God, says to the Lord: You are my intercessor and my refuge, my God, and I trust in Him.

For He will deliver you from the snare of the trap and from rebellious words: His lashes will overshadow you, and you will trust under His wing: His truth will surround you with weapons.

Do not be afraid from the fear of the night, from the arrow flying during the day, from the thing that passes in darkness, from the cloak and the demon of the midday.

Thousands will fall from your country, and darkness will be at your right hand, but it will not come close to you. Above all, look into Your eyes and see the rewards of sinners.

For You, O Lord, are my hope: You are Your refuge on High. Evil will not come to you, and wound will not approach your body: as His Angel commanded you about you, to keep you in all your ways.

They will take you in their arms, and one day you will dash your foot against a stone: you will step on an asp and a basilisk, and you will cross a lion and a serpent.

For I have trusted, and I will deliver, and I will cover, and because I have known My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him; I am with him in sorrow, I will wear him out: I will fill him with long days and show him My salvation.”

Prayer helps people who need protection and salvation in extreme, difficult, military conditions. This interpretation lies on the surface, but the deeper essence is somewhat hidden. The idea of Psalm 90 is that hope in the Most High is an irresistible fact and power! Blessed David wrote to people that trust in God is an irresistible force. Believing in the Creator, we find in him an intercessor, a savior from fears and troubles, and anger.

Analysis of the meaning of prayer

  1. The Lord's participation comes in the form of divine commandments against all misfortunes and demons.
  2. Only a person of deep and sincere faith will be saved by Him.
  3. Deliverance will come from physical attacks, from demonic attacks, and from rebellious words.
  4. The Lord will cover you with the same wings of love and care as a hen will cover her chicks.
  5. A person living in his soul with God's grace will not be afraid of anything: evil people, demons, the night, bad words.
  6. Arrows that fall to the right and left of a person are sins of seduction, attacks of demons, but they will never harm.
  7. With his own eyes, a person will be able to see the punishment and punishment for those who fight, are hostile and plan evil against him.
  8. Only those who have chosen God will be their shelter and refuge for protection and preservation.
  9. There is nothing to fear from evil, his house and body will be protected, and the wounds will not come close to the body.
  10. He assigned the angels to protect and take care of you.
  11. The hands of Angels will carry you and will not allow you to break on the stones: sin, doubt, temptation.
  12. Snakes and wild animals cannot cause any harm. And by these images we mean all vileness, slander, slander and envy.
  13. Whoever believes in God, he will hear and come, he will definitely help in danger, free him, and then glorify him in earthly life.
  14. For those who strive to live according to the commandments and will of the Lord, he can prolong the life of the world, of which there are many examples.

So it turns out that the Lord, like a father, protects his children. His help, as a reward, does not apply only to the principle of some human relationships: As much as I receive from you, so much will I give in return. Everything that happens to a person is given to him according to his strength and according to God’s plan. And the ways of the Lord are mysterious.

Such a prayer is Psalm 90. In former times, every Russian person knew this psalm by heart and read it when any danger or threat arose. And today many know this protective prayer by heart, and even more carry its text with them - in their pocket or purse and, if necessary, read it or have a consecrated belt with the words of the psalm, etc. She saved and saves many today. Otherwise she would not have been so revered by the people. Nowadays, when human life is becoming more and more difficult and dangerous, we need the prayer “Alive in Help” even more. Unfortunately, some people know and have the psalm translated from Church Slavonic into modern Russian. There are different translations that significantly distort and impoverish the meaning of the text. We present here the text of the prayer in Church Slavonic, in which it is recommended to read it.

Psalm 90

1. Living in the help of the Most High, he will settle in the shelter of the Heavenly God.
2. The Lord says: Thou art my Protector and my Refuge, my God, and I trust in Him.
3. Yako Toy will deliver you from the snare of the trap, and from rebellious words.
4. His cloak will cover you and you will hope under His wing: His truth will surround you with weapons.
5. Do not be afraid from the fear of the night, from the arrow flying in the days.
6. From things that pass in darkness, from clots and the midday demon.
7. A thousand shall fall from thy country, and darkness at thy right hand; he won't come close to you.
8. Look before your eyes and see the reward of sinners.
9. For You, O Lord, are my hope. You have made the Most High your refuge.
10. Evil will not come to you. And the wound will not come close to your body.
11. As His Angel commanded you, keep you in all your ways.
12. They will take you in their arms, but not when you dash your foot against a stone.
13. Tread on the asp and the basilisk, and cross the lion and the serpent.
14. Because I have trusted and will deliver, and will cover, because I have known My name.
15. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in sorrow, I will destroy him, and I will glorify him.
16. I will fill him with long days, and show him My salvation.

This prayer helps people to a greater or lesser extent, which depends on the spiritual and moral state of the person calling on God for protection and salvation, on the nature of the danger, understanding and perception of the meaning of the prayer. The text of the prayer indicates these conditions, but they are not understood by everyone without interpretation. For a deeper and broader understanding of the meaning of Psalm 90, we will give its interpretation according to the books of Evfimy Zigaben “Explanatory Psalter” and A. Lopukhin “Explanatory Bible”.

The main idea and essence of Psalm 90: hope in God has irresistible power. St. Theodoret says: this psalm teaches that the power of trust in God is irresistible; for blessed David wrote this psalm as an instruction to people about how many benefits trust in God brings. Anyone who lives by faith and hope in God will find in him a protector who saves him from all the misfortunes and evils of life. This psalm prophetically points to the coming of Christ, Who is the closest protector to man. Let us explain each verse of the psalm.

1. Whoever has the help given by God will be preserved under the protection of God. By God's help we must understand, in the words of St. Afanasia. the law of divine commandments, given by the Lord to people to help them against demons and other misfortunes.

2. Having great strong faith, a person says to the Lord: “My refuge and my defense; My God, only in You do I trust and hope.”

3. God will deliver “from the snare of povcha” - a sudden physical attack on the body or a demonic attack in the form of the unexpected appearance of lust or other sinful passion. It will also deliver “from rebellious speech” - slander that produces rebellion in the soul of the slandered.

4. He will overshadow you with His feathers, and under His wings you will be safe; shield and fence - His truth. That is, the Lord will protect you with the same protective love with which a mother hen takes her children under her wings, where they feel completely safe. This is because “His truth” will be a weapon of protection for you. Since God loves the truth, He will protect the one who is true before Him.

5, 6. You, a person living in the help of God, will not be afraid of the fear that happens at night from demons, or from people (thieves, robbers, house arsonists); You will not be afraid of arrows and shots that strike the body; You will not be afraid of the mental arrows with which demons and passions strike. “Things that pass away in darkness” - fornication, adultery, the demon of passion and the like; and the “midday demon” is a demon of laziness and carelessness, corrupting people in their midday rest with the temptations of vile and carnal thoughts.

7. Thousands of arrows will fall on your left and ten thousand arrows on your right, but they will not harm you. The thousand on the left is a direct temptation to sin; ten thousand on the right is an attack by demons to counteract our righteous, godly deeds. This verse has numerous confirmations in biblical history (a striking example is the victory of King Ezekiah in the war with the attacking Assyrians, who had much superior forces), as well as at the present time.

8. With God’s help, you will see with your own eyes the retribution of the wicked who are hostile to you.

9. Therefore there will be such strong protection from God that you have relied on God with all your heart and mind and chosen Him as your refuge.

10. Since you have made God your refuge, “evil will not come to you,” that is, no temptation (trouble) will strike you. “And no wound shall come near your body” - everything bodily will be protected, your house from fire and robbery, and your body from illness.

11. For the Lord will command His angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. God, through Angels, protects those who trust in Him.

12. They will carry you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. The hands of Angels - the essence of the protective force - will support you during temptations and difficult circumstances, so that your foot does not stumble on a stone. By stone we mean every sin and every obstacle to virtue.

13. Asp and basilisk - genera of poisonous snakes (basilisk is a spectacled snake). A person who has God as a guide in everything is not afraid of poisonous snakes and large predatory animals, they do not bring him harm, which is confirmed by numerous lives of saints. In this verse, by snakes and beasts, the holy fathers also mean victory in general over evil. By asp one can mean slander; basilisk is envy both on the part of someone and one’s own personal envy towards someone; the lion is cruelty and inhumanity. The righteous overcomes such passions and does not receive any harm from them.

14. Since a person trusts in God, therefore He delivers him from all danger. The name of God is known not by the one who knows in general who God is, but by the one who behaves in relation to God in a manner worthy of God, demonstrating this dignity in diligently fulfilling the commandments and will of God.

15. He who trusts in God will call to him in danger, and He will hear, and come to the rescue, and free him, as he helped many martyrs in suffering. And he will not only liberate, but also glorify him in earthly and eternal life. Of course, someone who trusts in God will not ask for anything unworthy, contrary to God’s truth.

16. This verse means that the Lord rewards those who trust in God and strive to live according to His will with eternal life, and can also extend earthly life beyond the natural time of death, which is also a lot of evidence.

Thus, when reciting the prayer “Alive in Help,” God hears everyone and responds as a loving father to help his son or daughter. The help and protection of the Lord is a reward, which is usually greater the more a person has earned it before Him. But God does not act strictly according to the principle: “as much as you are to me, as much as I am to you.” Therefore, the Lord often helps a sinful person who, at the time of conversion, has only great faith and hope in God’s help. Helps in the hope of strengthening faith and love in the future.

But people who try to live according to God’s commandments also have no guarantee of God’s protection when faced with danger. For admonition, the Lord may allow dark forces to attack them for sins that they could well have avoided. Such admonition becomes clear to a person, and he straightens his crooked path. And also to allow an attack on those righteous for whom troubles and sorrows are tests for the strengthening and growth of the spirit. These tests are given according to a person’s strength and for his benefit. In each specific case, God's providence is unknown in advance, and it is not given to people to know it. The ways of the Lord are truly mysterious, but loving to mankind.

What is Orthodoxy? To put it simply, Orthodoxy is true Christianity, not distorted by human speculation and passions. But before we turn directly to Orthodoxy, let’s see what every thinking and seeking person faces.
