Mercy or indifference?

Mercy or indifference – what is more common in our lives? Less and less people pay attention to a homeless animal, to a person who needs help - we just pass by. Why is this so?

If you look at it, what is mercy? Mercy is a different concept for each person. For some it’s a waste of time – “Why help someone? You need to live life for yourself!” For another, it is a way to do something useful and pleasant to another, even without receiving a reward. Mercy is, first of all, a voluntary and selfless activity.

Indifference, cruelty, selfishness are frequent phenomena in our lives. People's hearts freeze, become callous and are no longer capable of noble deeds. But if we need help, will someone be kind, generous and merciful to us? Think about it.

How not to be indifferent? Remember this saying and stick to it always: “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” And, if you quarreled with your family, didn’t help with something, became stubborn (this also hardens your heart and deteriorates your character), imagine that this person is not there. Are you scared? Do you value this person? So, don’t be lazy to stand up and help.

Direction " Indifference and responsiveness" is included in the list of topics for the final essay for the 2017/18 academic year.

Below are examples and Additional materials to develop the theme of indifference and responsiveness in the final essay.

FIPI commentary on the essay on “Indifference and Responsiveness”

Subjects directions "Indifference and responsiveness" orients schoolchildren to understand the diversity of forms of a person’s relationship to the people around him and to the world as a whole.

These relationships can be expressed in the form of indifference to others, unwillingness to pay attention and sympathy to a stranger, or vice versa - in the form of outright empathy for someone, the ability to sincerely rejoice at someone’s successes and achievements.

Both aspects are represented in literature human relations. On the one hand, we meet selfless heroes, ready to respond to other people’s hardships and joys, and on the other, selfish, proud and indifferent characters, concerned only with their own fate.

An example of a final essay on the topic of Indifference and Responsiveness

You can live your life in different ways. Walk with zealous steps over the heads of enemies, friends, strangers and loved ones. Or help your relatives as much as you can, pay attention to the lonely, take care of your home, your street, your city... and, of course, your country.

To be selfish, to only care about oneself - or to feel, support, empathize? Despite the obviousness of the answer, everything is somewhat more complicated than it seems.

Science has proven that only a psychopath - a person with an obvious psychiatric disorder - can be absolutely indifferent and not feel pity for others. These people basically do not understand feelings. Gradually they master the language of mental sensations, moods and emotions. But for them this language is “non-native”; it is needed only for manipulating other people. Even their own children and parents have no spiritual value for individuals suffering from psychopathy. And this is perhaps the most comprehensive and absolute manifestation of indifference.

IN real life indifferent people certainly do not have such radical character traits. Ordinary indifference is a person’s selfishness, indifference, and indifference. This is a focus solely on one’s interests, one’s benefit, one’s opinion. Such people do not want to help, sympathize, support or approve.

In my opinion, the most the main problem The relationship between the categories of indifference and responsiveness is that these character traits have a deep subconscious context. You can explain to an indifferent person that sympathizing, supporting and helping other people is good, positive, creative and love. All this is quite understandable for an indifferent person, but she is driven by completely different thoughts and motives - achieving her own goals, ensuring personal comfort, obtaining her own benefit. An indifferent person accepts all the previously listed synonyms of responsiveness only if it turns out to be beneficial for him. It is this attitude towards others, this way of thinking that forms the basis of a selfish personality. It is almost impossible to change such a person.

The opposite of indifference is responsiveness. This is a character trait that manifests itself in compassion, empathy, sympathy, good nature and careful attention to the lives of others. Man of heart will not be able to pass by someone in need of help. His soul is open, he sincerely empathizes and rejoices for his friends, family and loved ones. And this brings him true satisfaction and fills him with spiritual strength.

Responsiveness is a positive and creative personality trait. It is an integral component social interaction and progressive development of society. This is one of the most important features due to which human civilization progresses.

Returning to the previously voiced thesis about the low probability of eradicating indifference, it is worth recognizing that responsiveness is a much less stable and indestructible human trait. Under the weight of life's hardships and disappointments, the anger and aggression of others, the sensitivity of the soul becomes callous, sincerity and frankness are replaced by mistrust, and sympathy by hypocrisy. That is why it is so important to form and constantly improve responsiveness in our hearts, to practice goodness in deeds, and in thoughts - openness, sensitivity and empathy.

Theses and arguments for an essay on the topic of Indifference and Responsiveness

1. Indifference and responsiveness to people (strangers or relatives; friends or opponents; simply to those who need help or support). It would be appropriate to consider an indifferent attitude towards other people's troubles and indifference to successes. It will be interesting to compare and contrast the heroes literary works- philanthropists and misanthropes, egoists and good-natured, sensitive characters).

The topic of indifference in love deserves special attention. Indifference and unrequited feelings are a favorite subject of popular fiction.

2. Indifference and responsiveness to the surrounding world, living and inanimate nature.

3. Indifference and “responsiveness of the soul” to aesthetic values, art and beauty.

4. Indifference and responsiveness as two extremes of human nature. Here we can analyze the forms of extreme manifestation of these properties: indifference - in fatal egoism and indifference, and responsiveness - in fanaticism. A person who is inclined to help in a row, forgetting about himself, often literally “puts the object of his care on his neck.” IN fiction, as in life, there are plenty of such examples. (For example, “The Slut” by A.P. Chekhov or even The Tale of the Little Fish and the Little Fish by A.S. Pushkin).

Mercy and indifference – which side are you on?
MERCY - compassionate, benevolent, caring, loving relationship to another person; the opposite of indifference, hard-heartedness, maliciousness, hostility, violence. The concept of mercy goes back to the Pentateuch, where the word “hesed” meant “kindness,” “loving kindness.” In pre-biblical Greek literature the word είδος denotes the feeling that arises at the sight of undeserved suffering. Aristotle has a feeling opposite to anger: sympathy, pity, compassion.

Although mercy is the highest moral requirement, it cannot at all be considered as a requirement the fulfillment of which is always expected of a person; in actual relations between people as members of a community, mercy is only a recommended requirement. Mercy is a duty to a person, but he himself has the right to demand from others only justice and nothing more.

Charity is mediated by service; by this it rises above alms, service, help. In normative terms, mercy is directly related to the demands of forgiveness of offenses, opposition to evil, violence, and love for enemies.

It was not a monastery in the exact sense of the word; the sisters of the monastery were engaged in charitable and medical work. Elizabeth was canonized.

David gave each family member an iPhone and told them that the family shouldn't worry about their phone bills because they were already paid for 10 years in advance. Finally, the football player handed over a check for 100 thousand dollars.

style.rotation What is indifference? Indifference is a state of apathy towards the surrounding world, people, phenomena, events, reluctance to participate in change own life for the better, not worrying about other people. “I don’t care... It doesn’t concern me... It doesn’t interest me... Leave me alone... Don’t bother me....” Each of us has heard or uttered such phrases. A person wants to be left alone, he does not want to have anything to do with certain people or events, he is not concerned or interested in anything. There are many manifestations of indifference. A little boy stood at the window and read the ad syllable by syllable. The store salesman said in it that he was selling funny kittens. The boy timidly entered and from the doorway modestly asked how much they cost. Having learned the price, he whispered: “That’s a lot...”, putting his hands in his pockets, He slowly took out everything he had. Yes, it’s not enough, even though he saved it for a long time. The child’s heart involuntarily ached... With bitterness in his voice, he asked: “Uncle, can I at least take a peek Just at your kittens. If only I had the money, I would buy it for sure, But I just can’t have time to save it up.” And the seller slowly opens the lid in a huge box, and now Eight kittens run out of it, Well, and the ninth one crawls after them, Wants to keep up with his friends, But he can’t keep up with them. And all because his legs were sick, So he was born... to his own misfortune. The boy seemed to have been doused with water, He did not dare to take his eyes off, He was not even able to say anything, He only looked at the lame kitten. But through force, with great excitement, Barely, barely audibly, he suddenly said: “If I had money, then I, without a doubt, would buy a lame kitten from you.” And the seller, looking in amazement, answered sadly, nodding at him: “You know.” , a sick kitten, unfortunately, was born this way, you can’t cure it. But, if you want, you can take a lame kitten for yourself without money. No one will give a penny for such a thing, I didn’t even think about selling it.” The boy answered seriously and sternly: “I can borrow money from my mother, I’ll pay for a lame kitten, Why is he worse than healthy kittens? He costs the same as others, I’ll pay you the full price, We’ll live with him, like brothers, I’ll buy a kitten Want!" Having said this, he awkwardly bent down and for some reason reached under his trouser leg. Looking at him, the seller was horrified: Instead of a leg, he saw a prosthetic... Tears in his eyes, a lump in his throat, trembling throughout his body... Everything became clear to the seller now. I wanted to hug him, He extended his hands to the boy. “You know, my boy, what I would like? So that the rest of the kittens would find caring and merciful, kind owners, just like you!” Indifferent attitude... Indifference... What is it? Where does it come from in people? IN Lately indifference is a common word. We often hear about him on television and radio. It's in the air on the street. Everyone is afraid of him, and when they encounter him, they don’t recognize him. Indifference is callousness and inconsistency human soul. As a rule, indifferent people do not recognize themselves as such; moreover, some of them quite seriously consider themselves romantics. Funny... By definition, romance is feelings and emotions that elevate a person, it is “characterized by the depiction of strong passions.” To put it simply, toromanticism is true love, devoted friendship... So indifference and romance are incompatible. Reasons for indifference Often indifference is a kind of defense that protects a person from stress. If a person has been repeatedly rejected or insulted, he tries to avoid such negative emotions. Wanting to protect yourself, a person often completely unconsciously begins to feign indifference. However, over time, a problem arises because indifference and indifference often become internal state person. Sometimes there are severe cases of indifference to others and to oneself. Nowadays it is very difficult to be merciful and at the same time remain a respected person. As a rule, kind, selfless people who strive to help are considered strange. As soon as we begin to show mercy, they immediately begin to call us Mother Teresa. As if we had done something stupid. People for the most part are accustomed to being selfish, caring only about their own well-being. They are afraid of what others will think of them and suppress their kindest qualities. But it's not right!

Everyone chooses what they consider necessary. Each of us is simply obliged to cultivate mercy, compassion... otherwise the world will collapse. And we must not forget about one simple thing: if you are not touched by the pain of others, do not express your indignation at the inhumanity of the world around you. It’s better to start with yourself!

Option 1: discussion, option 2: literature

In our world, each of us has periods when life becomes black line: Everyone around seems angry, aggressive and unkind. Succumbing to the influence of others, a person himself can become irritable, nervous and react incorrectly to current events. At such a time, everyone needs goodness - a small ray of sunshine that will illuminate the soul and give understanding and positive emotions. And one of the most important qualities kind person is mercy.

Mercy... What is the meaning of this seemingly simple word? Mercy is the ability to tear off a part of yourself to those people who need something, who need our help.

Fate can lead everyone into quite difficult life situation, and when a person asks for help, you need to be able to respond to him and extend your hand.

Mercy is the ability to help a person in trouble, and not just help, but do it free of charge, without expecting any gratitude in return. Often, the person to whom you give goodness may not even know your name. This applies, for example, to charity events for children from orphanages, raising money for the treatment of terminally ill children, and so on.

Why does a person need such a quality as mercy? It’s not for nothing that they say: “What goes around comes around.” There is a balance in the Universe, and absolutely everything that he does in life comes back to a person. None of us are immune from the fact that something unpredictable may happen in life when we need help. In this case, the good that we did when we had the opportunity will definitely return to us a hundredfold.

The main problem of mercy is that now, unfortunately, there is not enough of it for everyone. Many people are closed, angry, and unrestrained. They are afraid or unwilling to do good to others, to be open and merciful. This doesn’t make them look good at all, but on the contrary, it pushes other people away from them.

Developing compassion in yourself is not as difficult as it seems. To do this, you need to catch yourself thinking evil thoughts and immediately drive them away. If you see a reason to do a good deed, there should be no options - you need to definitely do it, thereby making it better not only the world, but also yourself.

Essay on the topic The problem of mercy (with examples from literature)

Reflecting on this topic, two main questions can be identified: what does mercy mean, and what is it by nature? And what is the role of mercy in modern society. I will try to understand these issues with the help of several examples and reasoning.

Many authors in their works raised the problem of mercy. One of the most striking examples is the story of Mikhail Sholokhov “The Fate of a Man”. The main character is Andrey Sokolov lost during the war what is unforgettably dear to every person - family. It would seem that there is no point in living, there is no strength to fight, but Andrei was able to show mercy. It consisted in the fact that he pretended to be, and later became the real father of an orphaned boy and took him to him. Sokolov took pity on the child, showed kindness towards him, tenderness is mercy. It is also worth noting that mercy is something that should always accompany a person, because a “sweet heart” is one of the most valuable and beautiful gifts that exist on Earth. And all because mercy is not only good or right, but sometimes it is the way to save others.

It is impossible not to mention something else wonderful work- “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy. Natasha Rostova showed the most real mercy when she gave the carts on which her family could take out their property for the wounded. She realized that helping others is most important. Thus, we came to the conclusion that mercy is also the ability to self-sacrifice, selflessness, because sometimes in order to help someone you need to lose yourself.

We learned about what mercy is, but what role does it play in modern times, does it have a place and does modern man need it?

We can say that mercy in modern society is inherent in one of the most strong in spirit people, all because this moment indifference and cruelty prevail in the world, resisting them and sacrificing feelings and benefits every time is destiny strong personality. Mercy plays a vital role in our rhythm of life, because it makes a person human. Will You pass by indifferently looking at someone who needs Your help or will You open your heart for them? This is what distinguishes a real person. Mercy determines the best.

Undoubtedly, mercy means so much not only for this reason, but also because without it the world will turn into chaos, where there will be no more mutual assistance, where indifference, greed, and self-interest will rule. Mercy gives us faith that people have not lost the ability to trust each other and sympathize, to be together, one for another. Mercy justifies the title “Man”.

Thus, from the reasoning it follows that mercy is sacrifice, kindness, sincerity, sympathy. This is something that should always exist in people, no matter how bad they themselves are. And in the end, mercy is what saves us and what we can do to save others.

In big cities, on the streets, in passages or in the subway, you can meet people with disabilities who silently look at passers-by. You can often see a plastic cup or box next to them. Many people, out of sympathy, throw in small change, and the rest passes by. This is one of many examples of the confrontation between mercy and indifference, which has been observed since ancient times. But what will win?

Surprisingly, even in difficult times, mercy triumphs over indifference. When there seems to be no strength for compassion and responsiveness, people still cannot be indifferent to others. Many were ready to share food with their enemies, despite the fact that their own stomachs were not full. A striking example is Leka from Tatyana Kudryavtseva’s story “The Orphanage”. The girl had to endure the loss of her mother, did not hear anything from her father after he went to the front, and all the time from the beginning of the war Leka constantly lived in hunger, but this did not break her and she was able to find the strength to show mercy to people.

However, even in Hard times It’s full of people who are indifferent to other people’s grief, people who are ready to profit from someone else’s misfortune. At such moments it seems that indifference can win. But life often shows people their mistakes and forces them to change their views on the world, helping mercy to win the final battle. In an excerpt from the book “The Beginning of an Unknown Century” by Konstantin Georgievich Paustovsky, we are faced with the narrator’s story about a Latvian engaged in speculation during the war. He is indifferent to the grief of others and acts immorally towards others. In this excerpt, the Latvian is going to exchange bags of potatoes for gold from the Jews, whom the Germans took to the ghetto and shot, leaving only some women and children alive. When he arrives in the ghetto, he is immediately surrounded by women who are ready to give the last thing they have to save their children. One of them, holding a dead child to her chest, holds out a broken gold watch, begging for potatoes. The madness in her eyes, the despair with which she shook this watch in front of his face, struck him to the core. He could no longer remain indifferent. The Latvian shook out all the potatoes and hid the children in bags, wanting to save them from death. Without thinking about himself, he was able to take the children to the partisans.

Our world does not rest on a giant turtle and three whales, but on the mercy and responsiveness of the people who inhabit it. Of course, there will always be indifferent and indifferent people, but for every such person there will always be several capable of sincere generosity. That is why mercy will defeat indifference time after time. After all, as Jean-Jacques Rousseau said, “Only the good done by man remains, and thanks to it, life is worth something.”
