Summary of losses of the Ukrainian army. Real losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donbass

Military expert Ruslan Taskaev, combat officer, military journalist, combat participant

They never lie as much as before an election, after a hunt, and during a war. Usually the number of one's own wounded and killed is underestimated by no less than five to ten times, and the number of enemy losses is overestimated by the same amount. There are special instructions for reporting losses, which you must adhere to very strictly.

But the Ukrainian military carries out this instruction too zealously, underestimating its own losses in killed by 20 times, and wounded by up to 50.

Real losses

The militias claim to have killed 1,500 Ukrainian military personnel, National Guard militants, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service of Ukraine, members of radical paramilitary groups such as the Right Sector, Kolomoisky’s detachments, as well as mercenaries of foreign PMCs. The militia themselves suffered losses of about three hundred killed and the same number wounded. The Ministry of Defense claims 45 of its own killed and more than a thousand killed “terrorists”. But even official statistics according to the military themselves, it is underestimated, since obtaining the status of a deceased person in the ATO is not so easy. Missing persons, deserters, corpses of persons (burnt), whose identity cannot be officially established, are not considered dead, and therefore compensation is not paid. For example, if a helicopter crashed, an armored personnel carrier burned down, and nearby there were several burnt corpses without identification marks, not one of them is considered dead in the ATO until tests are done and the identity is established, which is impossible to quickly do in the current conditions.

Reportedly local residents located in the Izyum area, the militia’s data is much closer to reality than the official statistics of the Ministry of Defense.

In war, the most important place for collecting information about losses and movements of units is hospitals and clinics. In Chuguev, Izyum and other cities of the Kharkov region, hospitals and morgues are full. On June 2-3 alone, at least 60 Ukrainian security forces were killed and hundreds were wounded in the battles for Krasny Liman.

But the residents of Izyum are not talking about hundreds, but already about thousands of wounded. In addition to hospitals in the Kharkov region, the wounded are taken to sanatoriums in Central Ukraine, for example, in the Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia regions.

Even before entering the battle, the Ukrainian army suffered losses - during the repair and preparation of equipment, up to ten Ukrainian soldiers were killed from explosions and fires, three tanks, a Grad installation and self-propelled guns, one front-line bomber, An-2, BMD, Mi-8 were destroyed etc. Moreover, this data is only from open sources.

To date, according to information from the militia headquarters, the following vehicles have been burned or shot down: 3 Hummers; 1 UAZ-469;
from 4 to 10 Kamaz vehicles; 8 trucks of unknown brand; – 2 trucks"Ural"; from 4 to 5 Gas-66; 1 radio station based on GAZ-66; 5 howitzers D-30; 1 “Gvozdika” installation, “Vasilyok” automatic mortar; 3 “Grad” installations; from 2 to 3 anti-aircraft installations; 3 mortars; from 1 to 2 self-propelled guns “Nona-S”; 4 T-64 tanks; from 40 to 60 armored vehicles (armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles), including exactly 10 infantry fighting vehicles.

Among the aircraft there are from 15 to 20 downed or completely disabled aircraft, including Mi-24 attack helicopters, Mi-8 military transport helicopters, Su-25 attack aircraft, and reconnaissance aircraft. In terms of helicopters, this is almost a third of all combat-ready helicopters in Ukraine.

These losses do not take into account the equipment seized by the militia from the Ukrainian security forces, and these are infantry fighting vehicles, infantry fighting vehicles, self-propelled guns, IMR, armored personnel carriers, and now electronic warfare equipment and even heavy tanks.

On the reasons for the large losses of Ukrainian forces

The first reason is the nature of the so-called. anti-terrorist operation. It is carried out by different military groups, whose actions are often simply not coordinated with each other. Nowhere in official sources are the losses of the Alpha special forces mentioned, however, we reliably know about one case that is already typical for the ATO, which well illustrates the nature of the military operation and confirming the huge losses of Ukrainian troops.

About a month ago, Alpha set out on a combat mission from one of Western regions Ukraine, having chosen the left flank, the right was occupied by the National Guard under the cover of paratroopers. After some time, having exposed the flanks, the National Guard and paratroopers disappeared, and Alpha found itself in a five-hour encirclement, from which it emerged with 30 wounded, including five with serious wounds. And therefore, the reports of the militia that the Sumy “Alpha” was completely destroyed as a combat unit, and special forces groups from the western and central regions suffered huge losses, are not fiction or exaggeration, but merely a statement of facts.

In any war, there are cases of shelling of one’s own troops. The Donbass ATO is no exception. The whole world knows the footage of the shooting down of a broken checkpoint near Volnovakha by Ukrainian helicopters.

In addition, employees of the 51st mechanized brigade fired at themselves several times and came under fire from the National Guard. Until recently, Strelkov used experience Chechen wars, namely, deliberately provoking mutual fire. A month ago, such a successful operation on the part of the militias “came out” in the official reports of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It was announced that the attack on the Ukrainian checkpoint had been “successfully” repelled. It was reported that a jeep was burned, but as it turned out, it was a Hummer in service with the 95th Airborne Brigade. The shelling was carried out by friendly forces for several hours.

The lack of coordination of actions and the reluctance of Ukrainian conscripts to fight is the subjective reason for the large losses of the Ukrainian “siloviki”, not counting the losses of the Makhnovist battalions of the Kolomoisky type “Donbass” (in the first battle they lost 50% of their personnel wounded), “Dnepr” (as is known, “Dnepr- 2" and "Dnepr-3"), "Azov". But there are also objective reasons, namely: the attacking side always suffers greater losses than the defending side, especially in conditions of urban warfare with partisan and sabotage groups.

Where do the corpses go?

Ukraine is far from the best economic conditions. Many contract soldiers go to serve in the ATO only for the sake of the status of a participant in combat operations, which provides a whole range of benefits. All ATO participants were promised compensation for injuries and deaths. The number of wounded and killed amounts to a tidy sum for the state.

Therefore, 200, where it is possible to hide, can be recorded as defectors and deserters. This step “kills” two birds with one stone - the family is not informed about the person killed, but hope is given, therefore, the reason for indignation is removed, and secondly, the state completely gets rid of payments for the death of a combatant. According to the militia, about 30 conscripts defected to the Donbass side in Kramatorsk (by the way, the reverse process is not observed), but no more.

A clear directive was given to maintain the status of a combat participant even for the wounded. The Ukrainian newspaper Vesti reports that in Odessa the wounded are recorded as “participants in the accident”; similar cases were noted in Zhitomir.

Especially the radicals from the mercenary battalions simply cover their dead, where possible, with earth. This practice is evidenced by local residents (they even found a moving hole in the ground where wounded militants were buried), and is also confirmed by declassified correspondence between Avakov and the commander of the Donbass battalion, who suffered numerous casualties in the first battle.

Near Slavyansk there are chalk quarries where, according to local residents, drowned corpses were found. Probably, soon, throughout the north of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, fresh “mass” graves will be dug up, and the dead will be caught from ponds and rivers.

What will happen when the truth comes out?

Knowing the real number of killed and wounded in this war is the right of any citizen of Ukraine, since his fellow citizens are dying on both sides as a result of the unleashed new government military confrontation. Hiding this data is a crime.

The bitter truth about the dead and wounded will still find a way out. While it is hidden by all means. But this phenomenon is temporary, and not even the saddest thing. The saddest and most criminal thing is the continuous death of civilians in Donbass from shelling and air raids.

During the ATO in Donbass, the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered significant losses in manpower, and these losses are much greater than what official Kyiv voices.

Official losses during the armed conflict in Donbass, announced by Ukraine, are more than 1,800 people killed and 8.5 thousand wounded, said the head of the main personnel department of the Ukrainian General Staff, Lieutenant General Igor Voronchenko.

According to the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine suffered almost half of its irretrievable losses outside the battlefield.

“To date, the losses of Ukrainian military personnel over the entire period of the ATO are 1,842 military personnel, 831 are non-combat. 8,519 military personnel were wounded,” said a representative of the General Staff.

Igor Voronenchenko reported that during the entire period of the anti-terrorist operation in Donbass, about 100 thousand Ukrainian military personnel received the status of participant in hostilities. In total, about 129,700 people are eligible to receive this status.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the People's Militia of the LPR Igor Yashchenko at a press conference in early November voiced other real numbers losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the ATO. According to him, real losses the Ukrainian side is several times more than what is voiced by official Kyiv.

The current situation in Donbass

The Ukrainian military continues to concentrate forces east of Artyomovsk, in the area of the station. Lugansk, preparing for the offensive, completely blocked the checkpoint and traffic movement from the DPR in the direction of Volnovakha. Columns of BM-21 "Grad" were marching towards Artemovsk in the morning. Artillery, tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers (up to 30 units), as well as Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel, have already moved to the Gorlovka area.

10 tanks took up positions in the village. Dzerzhinsk, 5 km to the contact line. 12 tanks in the area of the settlement. Novgorodskoe, 6 km to the contact line. In the village Nikolaevka, 5 units of BM-21 Grad MLRS were installed, 8 km from the contact line.

In the DPR, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are testing the defenses of Gorlovka, there is a threat of an offensive near Gorlovka - there is a high intensity of fire and the formation of assault battalions by the security forces.

Strikes are being carried out on the territory of the Donetsk airport: mortars, artillery and howitzers, which, according to the Minsk agreements, must be withdrawn from the contact line. In addition, militia positions in the area of Peski and Spartak were fired at from mortars.

Attacks on VSN positions are taking place along the front line around Donetsk: Staromikhailovka, Maryinka, Aleksandrovka, Yasinovatsky checkpoint. Krasnohorivka-Staromikhailovka: shooting battle (large-caliber machine guns, anti-aircraft guns, anti-aircraft guns). Nevelskoye-Staromikhailovka - (mortars). Staromikhailovka is being shelled from tanks from Krasnogorovka.

From the side of Nevelskoye, security forces are firing at positions of the VSN from MLRS.

Near the Donetsk airport, a fighter of the organized crime group “Legion of Freedom”, 93rd Mechanized Infantry Brigade, chairman of the local public organization “Sokol”, volunteer Yuri Cherkashin “Chernota” was seriously wounded. As a result of shelling from Ukrainian self-propelled guns "Akatsiya" near Uglegorsk, two VSN soldiers were killed.

In the LPR, the hottest spots now are the areas of Sokolnikov, Zhelobka, Shchastya, Popasnaya, st. Lugansk. Ukraine made three attempts to infiltrate the DRG. All three groups were scattered or destroyed. There is a high activity of unmanned vehicles of the Ukrainian military. One device was shot down.

The specifics of the official calculation of Ukrainian Armed Forces losses in Donbass allow us to paraphrase as follows: famous proverb: there are lies, big lies and statistics of the Maidan-oligarchic regime in Kyiv. The latter initially tried not to advertise the real losses of his security forces since the beginning of hostilities in the Slavyansk region.

At the same time, representatives of the regime and the Armed Forces of Ukraine periodically voice certain figures for the number of security forces killed over the entire period of the so-called. anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in Donbass.

For example, according to the information announced by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the official losses as of November 20, 2015 are as follows: 2,673 military personnel were killed, of which 1,842 were killed during a combat mission, non-combat losses were 831 people (i.e., approximately a third of total number). According to the head of the Main Personnel Directorate of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Igor Voronchenko, also during the entire period of the ATO, 8,519 military personnel were wounded, and most of them - 5,913 people were wounded not during combat operations. According to information published by the Ministry of Defense in October, the total number of combat and non-combat losses of the Ukrainian army in 2014-2015 amounted to 2,027 people, 597 of whom died not during a combat mission.+

A year earlier, Petro Poroshenko officially acknowledged the death of 1,252 Ukrainian military personnel. At the same time, the Kyiv authorities once again made it clear that losses in Donbass are not taken into account. To the relatives of the missing participants of the so-called. The ATO was asked to report them themselves. For this purpose, a volunteer call center was created under the Poroshenko administration - “the first in the entire history of the Presidential Administration,” according to a statement by Advisor to the President of Ukraine Olga Bogomolets. Since then, this structure, it seems, has been engaged for more than a year not so much in counting, but in concealing the real scale of the tragedy and the number of Ukrainians who died in battles against the population of Donbass for the interests of the Nazi-oligarchic regime.

Moreover, this is done so “clumsily” that the lies of official Kyiv are refuted even by Western structures. For example, UN experts concluded that official data on the number of Ukrainian soldiers killed and injured in the battles in Donbass are “inaccurate and contradictory.” This is indicated in the report on the results of the UN monitoring mission. “The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and WHO believe that the number of deaths of Ukrainian military, civilians and members of armed groups was underreported throughout the entire period of the anti-terrorist operation,” the report says.

Only the most gullible citizens of Ukraine have no doubt about the veracity of the reported casualty figures during the war in Donbass. They have always been underestimated, and this is, in general, normal, this is what everyone always does. However real picture can be approximately reconstructed by analysis open information, comparing it with the stories of those who visited the ATO site, and many other data published in order to create the illusion of transparency. Some of what the public is told is still true.

Official figures

At the beginning of the year, President Poroshenko named the number “2269”; this happened during a “Lesson of Courage” with students of military institutions in Kyiv. At this point, there had already been several cases when large military formations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were surrounded. There were seven such episodes in total, but three are considered the largest (Izvarinsky, Ilovaisky and Debaltsevo). Of course, volunteers and soldiers died not only in “cauldrons”, but also in ordinary battles, but even if we take into account the approximate number of personnel caught in them and compare them with the number of those who managed to escape, the figure will be much higher than that announced by the head of state. However, Poroshenko is not known to be particularly fond of truth, so every citizen of Ukraine has the right to be critical of his words. The servicemen who took part in the ATO at the same time gave other figures; in their opinion, the losses could not have been less than ten thousand. These are only those killed. The wounded are a separate matter. One thing is clear: the official figure, later increased to almost three thousand, cannot be trusted.

Data from one hospital

Administrative structures are structured in such a way that, on the one hand, they, of course, act in the interests of the state, but on the other hand, they always want to report on their outstanding achievements so that everyone can see that it’s not for nothing that they eat their bread. This is what the command of the Kharkov military hospital did, reporting that since the start of the ATO, sixteen thousand defenders of the homeland have received assistance and treatment in this medical institution. You can really trust this information - military doctors usually do not do postscripts, but there is also no reason for them to downplay their merits. The Kharkov hospital is really large, probably the largest in Ukraine, but besides it there are also Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa and several other specialized institutions, including those in close proximity to the theater of combat operations, that deal with urgent traumatic surgery. It should also be taken into account that not everyone entering army medical institutions is wounded; of course, there are many of them, but there are also simply sick people.

Wounded, killed and dead

So, the total number of “three hundredths”, that is, the wounded, as they say knowledgeable people, can be obtained by multiplying the number of patients at the Kharkov hospital by approximately four. This number will include people who have suffered to varying degrees, from being crippled for life to undergoing in-depth testing to determine their suitability for life. military service. Those who died from their wounds, by the way, are no longer included in the statistics of irretrievable losses; they are simply considered dead. That is, they, of course, gave the most precious thing they had for their homeland, but this does not seem to count. Even the most cursory calculation indicates that unofficial figures are much more reliable than the data voiced by the command and the Ukrainian president. The loss in killed cannot possibly be less than ten thousand. More is possible...

Why military police?

Interesting information is also contained in a document as boring in its abstractness as the “Strategic Defense Bulletin,” introduced by President Poroshenko after approval by the National Defense and Security Council on May 20. It specifies various measures to bring the army into compliance with NATO standards, rearmament, etc., but there is also a completely unusual clause that talks about the creation of the Military Police. Previously functions patrols carried out control over compliance with law and order. Finally, there is the Military Prosecutor's Office. Now there will also be a special police. This may indicate that some measures need to be taken, and urgently, before 2018. And then there was the speech of the Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios.

Prosecutor and non-combat casualties

On May 5, the chief military prosecutor named a figure that can also be trusted. According to him, non-combat losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the ATO exceeded a thousand people. And another three thousand wounded, maimed as a result of various accidents, which became the subject of already routine proceedings. Soldiers and officers are careless with weapons, beat each other in vain, relationships arise between them, which are usually delicately called hazing, and show a strange tendency towards suicidal behavior. All this could become the topic of a serious dissertation work by military psychologists and psychiatrists, closed, of course, and classified, if it were not already clear what the root of evil is.

Who are “avatars”?

In the modern Ukrainian army they like to use the names of movie characters to designate entire classes of military personnel. “Cyborgs” were first called those who defended the Donetsk airport, and then all participants in the hostilities in general, everything is clear with this. There is another category, these are “avatars”. These are, as a rule, mobilized reservists, distinguished by a characteristic unnatural complexion. Perhaps the association with fantasy movie characters is also caused by a specific facial expression, who knows, but their main difference is precisely the special shade of their skin, which identifies them as fans of strong drinks of any type, from hawthorn tincture to moonshine. They are usually, despite their already mature age, ordinary soldiers or sergeants, but they can also be officers, and then it is very difficult to envy their subordinates. They bring a lot of trouble to the army, they themselves die and cause deaths of both military personnel and civilians. These are terrible people.

Examples

There are many of them, and they, by the way, are presented quite officially and extremely honestly, in contrast to the bravura stories about great military exploits. Matios said that on the night of January 17 of this year, in the front-line zone, after excessive drinking, sixteen military personnel went to sleep in a house abandoned by residents and occupied by them on the outskirts of the village, leaving two on patrol. There they lit the stove, but did it ineptly, did not check the draft, and the chimney damper was closed. As a result, the entire unit was burned to death, and those who remained in the trench were also not saved, although they had a chance, they froze. In another case, tragedy occurred even under more trivial circumstances. The soldiers were warming themselves near the stove in the dugout; their comrade came up and threw a grant into the stove. 13 people died. Drunkenness was found guilty. It’s clear that prosecutor Matthias couldn’t talk for very long different stories. And I probably didn’t want to.

Realities and illusions

By publishing figures reflecting the real situation in the ATO zone, Ukrainian leaders of various ranks (including in this case Kharkov hospital and the military prosecutor's office) inadvertently provide the basis for logical constructions, as a result of which a terrifying picture emerges, contrary to what the optimistic media are trying to convey to the population. The main goal of raising morale is to convince the people of the need to continue the war. That is why there are attacks on Savchenko, who very timidly tries to reason logically and, in fact, to the best of her abilities wants to understand the reasons for the completely hopeless situation in the country. And this bad situation will continue until people begin to think with their own heads and analyze at least what they are told. In principle, this information is quite enough.
