Data on losses of the Ukrainian army. Losses of the parties involved in the war in Donbass

Only the most gullible citizens of Ukraine have no doubt about the veracity of the reported casualty figures during the war in Donbass. They have always been underestimated, and this is, in general, normal, this is what everyone always does. However real picture can be approximately reconstructed by analysis open information, comparing it with the stories of those who visited the ATO site, and many other data published in order to create the illusion of transparency. Some of what the public is told is still true.

Official figures

At the beginning of the year, President Poroshenko named the number “2269”; this happened during a “Lesson of Courage” with students of military institutions in Kyiv. At this point, there had already been several cases when large military formations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were surrounded. There were seven such episodes in total, but three are considered the largest (Izvarinsky, Ilovaisky and Debaltsevo). Of course, volunteers and soldiers died not only in “cauldrons”, but also in ordinary battles, but even if we take into account the approximate number of personnel caught in them and compare them with the number of those who managed to escape, the figure will be much higher than that announced by the head of state. However, Poroshenko is not known to be particularly fond of truth, so every citizen of Ukraine has the right to be critical of his words. The servicemen who took part in the ATO at the same time gave other figures; in their opinion, the losses could not have been less than ten thousand. These are only those killed. The wounded are a separate matter. One thing is clear: the official figure, later increased to almost three thousand, cannot be trusted.

Data from one hospital

Administrative structures are structured in such a way that, on the one hand, they, of course, act in the interests of the state, but on the other hand, they always want to report on their outstanding achievements so that everyone can see that it’s not for nothing that they eat their bread. This is what the command of the Kharkov military hospital did, reporting that since the start of the ATO, sixteen thousand defenders of the homeland have received assistance and treatment in this medical institution. You can really trust this information - military doctors usually do not do postscripts, but there is also no reason for them to downplay their merits. The Kharkov hospital is really large, probably the largest in Ukraine, but besides it there are also Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa and several other specialized institutions, including those in close proximity to the theater of combat operations, that deal with urgent traumatic surgery. It should also be taken into account that not everyone entering army medical institutions is wounded; of course, there are many of them, but there are also simply sick people.

Wounded, killed and dead

So, the total number of “three hundred”, that is, the wounded, as they say knowledgeable people, can be obtained by multiplying the number of patients at the Kharkov hospital by approximately four. This number will include people who have suffered to varying degrees, from being crippled for life to undergoing in-depth testing to determine their suitability for life. military service. Those who died from their wounds, by the way, are no longer included in the statistics of irretrievable losses; they are simply considered dead. That is, they, of course, gave the most precious thing they had for their homeland, but this does not seem to count. Even the most cursory calculation indicates that unofficial figures are much more reliable than the data voiced by the command and the Ukrainian president. The loss in killed cannot possibly be less than ten thousand. More is possible...

Why military police?

Interesting information is also contained in a document as boring in its abstractness as the “Strategic Defense Bulletin,” introduced by President Poroshenko after approval by the National Defense and Security Council on May 20. It specifies various measures to bring the army into compliance with NATO standards, rearmament, etc., but there is also a completely unusual clause that talks about the creation of the Military Police. Previously functions patrols carried out control over compliance with law and order. Finally, there is the Military Prosecutor's Office. Now there will also be a special police. This may indicate that some measures need to be taken, and urgently, before 2018. And then there was the speech of the Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios.

Prosecutor and non-combat casualties

On May 5, the chief military prosecutor named a figure that can also be trusted. According to him, non-combat losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the ATO exceeded a thousand people. And another three thousand wounded, maimed as a result of various accidents, which became the subject of already routine proceedings. Soldiers and officers are careless with weapons, beat each other in vain, relationships arise between them, which are usually delicately called hazing, and show a strange tendency towards suicidal behavior. All this could become the topic of a serious dissertation work by military psychologists and psychiatrists, closed, of course, and classified, if it were not already clear what the root of evil is.

Who are “avatars”?

In the modern Ukrainian army they like to use the names of movie characters to designate entire classes of military personnel. “Cyborgs” were first called those who defended the Donetsk airport, and then in general all participants in the hostilities, everything is clear with this. There is another category, these are “avatars”. These are, as a rule, mobilized reservists, distinguished by a characteristic unnatural complexion. Perhaps the association with fantasy movie characters is also caused by a specific facial expression, who knows, but their main difference is precisely the special shade of their skin, which identifies them as fans of strong drinks of any type, from hawthorn tincture to moonshine. They are usually, despite their already mature age, ordinary soldiers or sergeants, but they can also be officers, and then it is very difficult to envy their subordinates. They bring a lot of trouble to the army, they themselves die and cause deaths of both military personnel and civilians. These are terrible people.

Examples

There are many of them, and they, by the way, are presented quite officially and extremely honestly, in contrast to the bravura stories about great military exploits. Matios said that on the night of January 17 of this year, in the front-line zone, after excessive drinking, sixteen military personnel went to sleep in a house abandoned by residents and occupied by them on the outskirts of the village, leaving two on patrol. There they lit the stove, but did it ineptly, did not check the draft, and the chimney damper was closed. As a result, the entire unit was burned to death, and those who remained in the trench were also not saved, although they had a chance, they froze. In another case, tragedy occurred even under more trivial circumstances. The soldiers were warming themselves near the stove in the dugout; their comrade came up and threw a grant into the stove. 13 people died. Drunkenness was found guilty. It’s clear that prosecutor Matthias couldn’t talk for very long different stories. And I probably didn’t want to.

Realities and illusions

By publishing figures reflecting the real situation in the ATO zone, Ukrainian leaders of various ranks (including in this case Kharkov hospital and the military prosecutor's office) inadvertently provide the basis for logical constructions, as a result of which a terrifying picture emerges, contrary to what the optimistic media are trying to convey to the population. The main goal of raising morale is to convince the people of the need to continue the war. That is why there are attacks on Savchenko, who very timidly tries to reason logically and, in fact, to the best of her abilities wants to understand the reasons for the completely hopeless situation in the country. And this bad situation will continue until people begin to think with their own heads and analyze at least what they are told. In principle, this information is quite enough.

The fighting in Donbass continues, adding to the staggering statistics of mutual losses between the warring parties.

Here's what Donetsk and DPR News reported on February 25: "DPR militia reports violent tank battle in the south of the Donetsk People's Republic - Mariupol direction, southern front. The forces of the Donbass people's militia and the security forces of the Azov battalion met in Shirokino.

“A tank battle is taking place in Shirokino. This is between Novoazovsk and Mariupol. Both our side and the enemy’s side involve 3-4 units of heavy equipment,” - informs DPR headquarters 02/25/2015.

No wounded have been admitted to the Novoazovsk hospital yet. On February 24, two wounded and three shell-shocked militiamen were received. Today, several DPR fighters arrived with minor injuries, also after yesterday’s battle. As of today, there are no wounded in the Novoazovsk hospital.

Shirokino was considered DPR territory until after the New Year it was unexpectedly attacked by Azov. Now it is considered neutral territory, and after the truce was declared on February 15, Shirokino is the hottest spot in Donbass.

Earlier it was reported about battles between militias and security forces in the Sand region. The DPR forces are suffering heavy losses, as the command prohibits opening artillery fire.

This is the news from the DPR and the Donetsk People's Republic on February 25. Despite the fact that the ceasefire is “generally respected.”

Meanwhile, on February 25, terrible figures of real losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the ATO in Donbass were once again published.

12 thousand killed, 19 thousand wounded and almost 5 thousand missing. These, according to a leak from a closed meeting of the National Security Service of Ukraine, are the real losses of the Ukrainian security forces over the entire period of the punitive operation in the southeast. CyberBerkut hackers partially confirm this information.

In total, about 13,900 people are listed as deserters. This category raises the most questions: it can include not only military personnel who went over to the side of Novorossiya, but also the dead who, for unknown reasons, were not included in the list of casualties.

SBU: 1,700 SECURITY WORKERS ARE MISSING IN THE SOUTHEAST OF UKRAINE

The head of the Main Investigation Department of the SBU, Vasily Vovk, said that during the ATO in Donbass, more than one thousand seven hundred security forces went missing. He noted that there is no information about prisoners and it is impossible to determine their exact number. Vovk noted that about a hundred DNA tests were carried out to establish the identities of the victims.

At the end of October 2014, the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for resolving the situation in the southeast, Irina Gerashchenko, reported that the number of prisoners and missing people reached almost three thousand people. A week earlier, adviser to the head of the SBU, Markiyan Lubkivsky, said that only 450 people were being held captive by the militia and almost one and a half thousand people had been released earlier.

The head of the DPR Committee on Prisoners of War Affairs, Daria Morozova, said that Kyiv is holding at least 400 militia prisoners captive. According to her, the number of missing militiamen has reached 680 people, RIA Novosti reports. Over four months of fighting in the Donbass, the junta troops, according to the DPR headquarters, lost 43 thousand people. Of these, 27,888 were killed or wounded, and at least 13,500 deserted or went missing. The largest losses in the battles were suffered by the Right Sector - over 7,000 killed and wounded. Most of them were part of the Ukrainian National Guard. The battalions “Dnepr”, “Donbass”, “Chernigov”, “Aidar”, “Azov”, “Kherson” and others lost 6,168 people killed and wounded. SBU – 115 people. 460 foreign mercenaries were killed and wounded. The most missing fighters were the Polish ASBS Othago (194 people) and the American Asademi (160). The losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces amounted to 14,889 military personnel. 25 employees of American intelligence agencies - the FBI and the CIA - were killed. In four months, Kyiv lost 43 aircraft (including Polish and Croatian Su-25), 22 helicopters, and six drones. The militia managed to destroy 448 tanks, 827 armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles and infantry fighting vehicles, 37 Grads, 19 Uragans and about 100 pieces of artillery of various calibers, including 40 mortars, as well as several hundred vehicles, according to data from the DPR headquarters. "Are common Ukrainian losses in the area of the airport and surrounding areas as of noon today: 597 Ukrainian security forces were killed. I'm talking about those whose bodies have already been found in the area of the airport and the village of Peski. There were 44 people who surrendered,” Basurin told reporters.

Most of them were part of the Ukrainian National Guard. The battalions “Dnepr”, “Donbass”, “Chernigov”, “Aidar”, “Azov”, “Kherson” and others lost 6,168 people killed and wounded. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung newspaper noted: “German intelligence services estimate the likely number of dead Ukrainian military personnel and civilians to be up to 50 thousand people. These figures are ten times higher than the stated official data. The official figures are clearly too low and not trustworthy.” The report of the military analytical agency International Institute for Strategic Studies Military Balance for 2016 - in comparison with a similar report for 2013 - makes it possible to accurately assess the irretrievable losses of personnel and ground equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the active phase of the ATO.
Alexander Khrolenko

Against the backdrop of intensifying hostilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the south of the Donetsk People's Republic, the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Andrei Lysenko said on Monday that since the beginning of the conflict in Donbass, 2,629 Ukrainian military personnel have been killed and 9,453 military personnel have been injured. These numbers are disconcerting, to put it mildly.

According to official UN data, 32,856 people became victims of the fighting in eastern Ukraine: 10,056 killed and 22,800 wounded.

German intelligence counted tens of thousands of dead Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel in 2015. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung newspaper noted: “German intelligence services estimate the likely number of dead Ukrainian military personnel and civilians to be up to 50 thousand people. These figures are ten times higher than the stated official data. The official figures are clearly too low and not trustworthy.”

However, after the defeat near Ilovaisk and the completion of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) of 2014, which was unsuccessful for Kyiv, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko openly spoke about the huge losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: “At 60-65% military equipment in the units that stood on the first lines in the conflict zone were destroyed."

The Ukrainian Internet portal "Apostrophe" also admitted that in the fighting in Donbass, "the Ukrainian army lost more than 300 tanks, over half of its armored fighting vehicles, as well as almost 50% of its artillery systems."

Perhaps thousands of units of military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were destroyed separately from the military personnel, but all the crews, paratroopers, and artillery crews remained alive?

Mathematics is the queen of losses

As a rule, during combat operations the parties do not report accurate information about their losses so as not to reveal the operational situation to the enemy. Differences are possible in estimates international organizations and experts. And yet, the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donbass are mathematically transparent.

The report of the military analytical agency International Institute for Strategic Studies Military Balance for 2016 - in comparison with a similar report for 2013 - makes it possible to accurately assess the irretrievable losses of personnel and ground equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the active phase of the ATO.

Over three years, the number of Ukrainian tanks decreased from 1,435 to 788, that is, 647 tanks burned down. Of the 3,000 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), 1,300 units remained, that is, 1,700 infantry fighting vehicles were destroyed. Of the 3,350 units of cannon and rocket artillery, 1,850 units remained, that is, 1,500 artillery installations were lost. But on the battlefield, tanks and infantry fighting vehicles burn, as a rule, with their crews and airborne squads.

There is no more shameful title than “ATO veteran”

The crew of the T-72 is three people. The BMP-1 can accommodate eight paratroopers (the regular crew is three people). The crew of the BM-21 "Grad" is three people. Without even touching on the losses of personnel outside of armored vehicles, we can assume that few crews of the 647 burned tanks (1941 people) survived, not all crews and paratroopers escaped from the 1,700 destroyed infantry fighting vehicles (18,700 people), and the crews of the 1,500 destroyed artillery units on the field battle were protected in best case scenario body armor (4,500 people).

It turns out that the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, based only on tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and artillery, amount to over 25 thousand killed and wounded. I believe that against the background of this figure we can confidently talk about thousands of military personnel who died in the trenches. Thus, the probable losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the three years of the punitive operation in Donbass are about 30 thousand people (German intelligence also took into account civilian casualties, so I will not deny the death of 50 thousand Ukrainians).

The figure of 30 thousand correlates with the first three (out of seven) mobilizations in Ukraine (more than 30 thousand people were called up), after which there was no demobilization. New military units The Armed Forces of Ukraine were not created, and the number of the National Guard is only about five thousand people.

Over three years, Ukraine has implemented international market 23 tanks and 28 armored personnel carriers, which does not affect big picture combat losses.

Destruction of dignity

There are also more systematic data on the Internet about the losses of Ukrainian security forces and Western European and American citizens who sympathize with them (with weapons in their hands). For obvious reasons, it is very difficult to verify information about the deaths of, for example, 88 employees of the CIA, FBI, US Department of Defense Special Forces, 737 foreign mercenaries from private military companies ASBS Othago (Poland), Asademi and Greystone Limited (USA) and other foreigners.

Over a thousand days and nights continues Civil War, which became a natural continuation of the “revolution of dignity”, the “color” project of the USA and the EU. During this time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out dozens of offensive (punitive) operations, trying to capture individual settlements on the territory of the DPR and LPR. Almost all of them ended in failure.

The Kiev leadership and the “children of the Maidan” did not draw the right conclusions. The Minsk agreements are not being implemented. The ATO zone and the operation itself became profitable business for individual Ukrainian politicians (military contracts, smuggling of goods and services). From time to time, conflicts and even bloody shootouts arise between security forces and radicals in Ukraine. The economic decline in the country is masked by anti-Russian rhetoric. There are about 200 thousand military personnel in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and most of them participate in the ATO.

In production Investigative Committee The Russian Federation has 104 criminal cases regarding crimes in eastern Ukraine. The defendants are Ukrainian politicians, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the chairman of the SBU.

Meanwhile, over 100 thousand Ukrainians received Russian citizenship in 2016. This is 49% more than in 2015 (67,400 people). At this rate, in 30-40 years of the ATO, the whole of Ukraine may return to Russia.

Obviously more than official data. One has only to remember how the corpses of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers were thrown into the Blue Lakes near Slavyansk in 2015. And this cannon fodder was not recorded anywhere.

Or here’s another thing: at the beginning of the war, there were battles in the Amvrosievka area, where, according to Ukrainian media, the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered no losses at all. However, reports from DPR field commanders indicate that the Ukrainian army lost about 300 people.

At the same time, the families of deceased servicemen receive notifications that their relatives simply deserted, which brings not only shame and grief, but also deprives their family members of the right to at least some benefits and monetary compensation.

Another example. According to official data from the Ministry of Defense, 108 soldiers were killed when leaving Ilovaisk at the end of August 2014. At the same time, Prosecutor General Vitaly Yarema said that about 200 Ukrainian soldiers died there. The commander of the Donbass battalion, Semyon Semenchenko, announced the death of more than a thousand Ukrainian soldiers. And the chairman of the temporary commission of the Verkhovna Rada on the investigation of the causes of the tragedy in Ilovaisk, Andrei Senchenko, said that during the period from July 23 to August 23, the group of “sector D” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which took part in the operation in Ilovaisk, was missing 3.4 thousand fighters. Quote: “According to our data, as of July 23, there were 4,000 fighters in sector D; on the morning of August 23, there were 600 left.”

It is worth noting that the lists dead participants“ATO” does not include foreign and local mercenaries, neo-Nazi volunteers, military instructors (like those who advise the Donbass battalion) and criminals.

People whose relatives receive notifications of death with wording that allows businessmen from the Ministry of Defense not to pay the families of the deceased the promised benefits in the amount of 609 thousand hryvnia are also not included in the lists of official military casualties. The wounded near Volnovakha already in the spring of 2014 (!) complained to journalists that they were forced to sign strange protocols in which they were identified as “victims of an accident or accident.” And they mentioned the protocols for examining the corpses, which stated that their combat friends “died under unclear circumstances from gunshot wounds.”

In addition to those whose deaths are recorded in a strange way, hushed up and not included in the lists of the dead, there are also a lot of people on very impressive lists - “missing in action”, “deserted”, listed as wounded (while death from wounds is a matter of recent times ) and so on.

A number of opposition politicians have repeatedly addressed the public with statements that the authorities are blatantly lying, hiding and understating the real losses of many thousands of their military during the ATO. Indirect evidence in favor of this is the transfer of more and more units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the combat zone, the next waves of mobilization. In the summer of the year before last, deputies of the group “For Peace and Stability” appealed to the president and government with a demand to declassify data regarding the dead citizens of Ukraine. According to the statement of the co-chairman of the deputy group Sergei Gorokhov, the number of deaths during the ATO amounted to more than 10 thousand people by the beginning of August 2014.

In the fall, even Verkhovna Rada deputy and leader of the “Radical Party” Oleg Lyashko accused the President of Ukraine and the then Minister of Defense of crimes against their own soldiers. Showing the corresponding photos, he said: “Poroshenko and Geletey are blatantly lying, hiding more than 8,000 of our losses in the ATO! These guys gave their lives for them, for the country, for their people. But they and their loved ones did not receive any gratitude or respect from our leadership. Moreover, it turns out that Poroshenko is burning our heroes, like some kind of dogs, in German crematoria! I received a photograph from a reconnaissance satellite, on which you can clearly see a field crematorium near a military hospital in the ATO zone near Novoaidar. As I was informed, this crematorium was handed over to us by Germany...”

Many dead military personnel were not only burned in crematoria, but also buried in the ground without burial marks or identification before death. And not only in the spring and summer, when it was easiest to underestimate and falsify real losses, but also in the fall. For example, on September 22, the authorities of the Zaporozhye region announced the funeral of 55 unidentified bodies of ATO participants. The next day, the Dnepropetrovsk authorities prepared graves for 332 Ukrainian military personnel, of which only 22 bodies were identified...

Simply put, the loss figures announced by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are underestimated not by several times, but by tens of times.

“From the beginning of the ATO to this day, 2,629 military personnel have been killed as a result of hostilities. Of these, 2220 are military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The rest of the dead are from the ranks of the National Guard, State Border Service, SBU, Civil service By emergency situations. 9,453 military personnel were injured, of which 7,674 were from the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Andrey Lysenko, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said at a briefing in March 2017 in Kyiv.

This means that the death toll can easily be increased 30 times - this is approximately 78-80 thousand people.
