Let's start with a pencil sketch. The exact age of the heroine is unknown, but it is clear that she is a little girl. So let's draw a baby about 5-6 years old in a cute raincoat with a hood sticking out in different sides braids. She will also hold a basket in her hands - this is where the pies are located, which she will take to grandma. By the way, the basket will smile no less joyfully than the girl.

Then we will carefully draw the outlined contours with a marker. In this case, you don’t have to erase the pencil sketch, the main thing is to keep the marker exactly along the given line.

Now let's color our drawing. The baby's dress will be blue, her shoes will be black, and her coat with a hood, as expected, will be red.

1. Creating Clean Line Art from a Sketch

Step 1
You can start by drawing your own sketch or take one from the app. Once your sketch is ready, take pencil or chalk and start tracing the line. You can either try these settings or experiment on your own. By the way, use Crayon or any other pen with textures other than the default settings will give you the feeling of working with a real pencil. Don't forget to turn off the opacity of the sketch layer. 30-40% is enough.

Step 2
Line art "Little Red Riding Hood" is ready. Please note that this line art is quite detailed and does not look dull.

Continue drawing the background. For now, you can focus on the basic shapes of the forest without worrying about the details. We will continue working on these parts later. And I made the wolf look scary because he's really bad.

All we need to do at this stage is select the main background color. It is much easier to work with a background other than white. Don't forget that the line art layer should remain on top of the others on this moment. Use the " Bucket" to quickly fill the image. I choose dark blue because the forest and wolf should contrast with the bright girl.

2. Start painting the line art

Now comes the interesting part! Always experiment with colors at this stage. Through trial and error you will learn what works best for your illustration. Make additional layers below the line layer and start filling in the main color areas using Air Brush. Don't forget to create a separate layer for each color!

See: Difference between blank and colored background? Since the illustration shows a dark forest scene, we will use pale, muted colors for the characters.

Step 3
Now let's add a blue shadow behind the wolf. Firstly, we need it to separate it from the background, and secondly, it shows us that the main light source is coming from the back, which in our case is the Moon.

Step 4
We can start adding volume to the girl. Create new layer on top of the skin color layer and make Clipping Group. Add shadows under the hair, highlight the cheeks and add detail to the eyes. To zoom in on small areas of the illustration, use the " Scale» on the toolbar.

Step 5
Continue with this process, create a new layer on the color area layer, make Clipping Group add volume and detail. Stop when all the pieces are done and get ready to move on to drawing the wolf and background. I'll show you their process soon.

Step 6
Now turn off the visibility of other layers and use soft purple colour to add extra highlights. You can try other colors like soft orange or purple, which should work great too.

Step 7
Now it's time to work with the background. I decided to leave the tree branches empty because they look more scary and mysterious. Add volume and shadow to the branches, and don't forget about the main light source from the back - the Moon.

Step 8
Don't forget the lawn. For now, it’s enough to add a shadow from the girl and volume for the grass.

Step 9
Let's return to the Wolf. Turn on the visibility of the layer with the wolf's main color. Create new layer from above and do Clipping Group. Using Air Brush, add details and shadows to the wolf and draw the fur.

Step 1
Then create new layer and set its mode Overlay. Soft purple add a glow around the wolf to make it shine in the dark. Also make the glow of his eyes a soft orange color.

3. Detailing the illustration

Step 1
Create new layer on top of all existing layers. We now detail the illustration in detail. I prefer to start with the main character's face and then gradually move on to other parts of the drawing. Please note that the second version is much cleaner and more accurate than the first.

Step 2
Continue this process with other parts of the illustration. Make sure you use a small brush for detailing. Pen or Air Brush a good choice for this kind of work.

Step 3
And Little Red Riding Hood is ready! All the details are in place, and now we can move on to detailing the background and the Wolf.

Step 4
Let's clean up the background pieces. Remove all unnecessary parts and add additional branches if necessary. Make the Moon more contrast.

Step 5
Repeat the same process with the grass. A girl is standing on some lawn. To indicate this, you can add a few small flowers here and there. And draw the wolf's tracks because it's main topic illustrations. Little Red Riding Hood finds these tracks, and the Big Bad Wolf hides behind her.

Step 6
Add more detail for the fur, teeth and ears, and then work on further detailing the Wolf. Glowing eyes are also important for illustration purposes.

Don't forget about the wolf's tail and add some grass to cover it slightly.

All we have left to do is add the final moments. Create new layer on top and set its mode to Luminosity. Take a soft purple and add some light. Mysterious fantasy glow done!
