2012-2013:

In December 2011, SM Entertainment announced the formation of a new K-pop group called EXO. Since then, SM Entertainment has been representing EXO members by releasing teaser videos, and on March 7, 2012, the full lineup of the group was revealed. EXO is divided into two subgroups: EXO-K (K-pop) and EXO-M (Mandarin-pop). In the first, the performers sing in Korean, while the second is aimed at the Chinese market. In 2012, EXO released two videos for the tracks “MAMA” and “History”.

On March 25, SM Entertainment released a teaser video for the group's debut show 'EXO-SHOWCASE' on their official channel. The show took place on March 31st in Korea (for EXO-K) and April 1st in China (for EXO-M). In total, more than 8,000 spectators attended. “SHOWCASE” is a small concert of the group, during which, in addition to demonstrating their talents and skills, the participants talk about themselves and answer questions from fans from all over the world. 2014-2015:

The group's comeback with their second mini-album "Overdose" was scheduled for April 15, 2014, but due to the Sewol ferry tragedy, the group's comeback did not occur until May 7.

From May 23 to 25, EXO held their first solo concert - EXO From EXO Planet #1 - The Lost Planet. The guys performed with this program until October, giving concerts in different Asian countries.

On August 4, 2014, SM Entertainment officially announced EXO's fandom name as EXO-L. L stands for Love. Also, L is the letter that is between K and M. The letter L represents fans who support both subgroups: EXO-K and EXO-M. In addition, the group launched an official website. On March 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15, the second solo concert - EXO PLANET #2 - The EXO'luXion took place in Seoul. Xiumin

They found him through a singing competition, and as it turned out later, the artist took part in it because of his friend.

In 2008 he sang the song Emerald Castle“Footsteps” for the KEvery-sing Contest, which was held by the agency’s affiliated karaoke company. He placed second in this competition, receiving a prize of US$1,000 and a trainee contract with SM Entertainment.

It's not that Xiumin always wanted to become a singer. In an episode of the Life Bar show, he shared that he wanted to go to a sports university. Singing was his hobby until a friend inspired him to test his potential in a competition.

Xiumin also took part in the JYP Entertainment auditions in 2008. But he didn't pass it.

During the internship period Xiumin Lost a lot of weight in preparation for becoming an idol. He stated in an interview:

“The training itself was so challenging. I love to eat, so losing weight has been a struggle.”

Xiumin trained for just over three years and made his debut as a member of EXO in 2012.

Dry

always wanted to become a singer, ever since he was still a primary school student. Unfortunately, his parents were against this idea, and so Dry I decided to continue my path to my dream after I entered college.

Fortunately, when a high school student Dry was busy doing community service in the park, he was found by an SM Entertainment casting manager who was there to check out a club competition taking place at the college.

Dry passed the selection process and persuaded his parents to give permission for him to become a trainee at the agency. His internship began at the end of 2005, making him the longest-serving participant in the training. EXO.

In one television program Dry said:

“I had the opportunity to talk with Yoon Jung Shin before I joined SM Entertainment. He told me to go for it if singing is what I really want to do. So I decided to give myself one last try with this audition.”

At first Dry couldn't dance for a year because he injured his leg and had to undergo rehabilitation. This made him worry that he might not be able to debut after all, so Dry devoted a lot of time to study. He was accepted into the Korean National University of the Arts, from which he left after his debut.

Lei

I knew that I wanted to perform since childhood. He has been singing, dancing and acting since childhood. He starred in many TV programs because viewers saw the potential Leya already at such a young age. SM Entertainment's casting partner discovered Leya in China when he participated in the competition. In October 2008 Lei I was already in Korea to start training for my debut as a Kpop idol.

Before debut Lei replaced Jonghyun at the concert SHINee in January 2011, who had an ankle injury, and took his place on stage.

Lei debuted in 2012 as part of the Chinese division EXO — EXO-M, but after some members left the group, he remains the only Chinese member EXO since 2015.

Baekhyun

It took four months to make it into the 'future debut' group, seven months of training with that group to debut, which meant he only needed eleven months as a trainee to prove to everyone that he was cut out to be an idol.

However, this is not just luck. Baekhyun I dreamed of becoming famous since childhood. Throughout his school years, Baekhyun more than once he was filmed or he was caught on camera when he performed on stage and sang. Baekhyun successfully debuted with EXO in 2012.

Chen

trained for only eleven months before debuting with EXO — EXO-M. It's relative short term internships compared to other participants, but Chen came with such amazing vocal abilities that immediately made him the lead vocalist of the group.

When Chen studied at high school, he studied singing at the music academy. When his vocal coach suggested he audition for an agency, Chen I decided to try it.

Chen was still in high school when he auditioned for SM Entertainment. Baekhyun was his competitor in this audition. By May 2011, Chen was officially signed as a trainee.

During the training period Chen became closer to the participants from China, so he volunteered to be part of EXO-M, but not EXO-K.

Four months before debut Chen appeared at the 2011 SBS Song Festival and amazed the audience with his cheerfulness.

Having successfully debuted in 2012, Chen has since become a favorite vocalist within and outside of EXO, EXO-M and EXO-CBX.

Chanyeol

I didn’t plan to become an idol or an artist in general. He, with his tall figure and slender body, hoped to become a model.

In fact, right after he graduated from high school, he entered the Smart Model Contest and came in second place. He mentioned this in a TV program, saying that “It opened doors for him in the entertainment business.”

By 2008, a high school student Chanyeol was caught on the street by an SM Entertainment employee. He mentioned that he signed a trainee contract, thinking that he would be able to debut in a group similar to TRAX, but then realized that SM Entertainment is not an agency for rock groups.

Same year Chanyeol appeared in a short drama entitled " Things We Do Anyway When We Know We Will Regret" as one of three high school students who smoke outside.

In 2010 and 2012, during his internship days Chanyeol appeared in two music videos Girls' Generation(“Genie” and “Twinkle”). With his large features, big eyes and charming ears, his appearance Chanyeol caused a stir among the spectators, who admired him with curiosity.

When Chanyeol debuted with EXO in 2012, fans fell in love with his deep voice and memorable appearance.

D.O.

The thing is, I didn’t tell anyone that I became a trainee at SM Entertainment.

Therefore, by 2010 D.O. took part and won a singing competition. On his way home from this competition, he was approached by the manager of SM Entertainment and received an invitation to audition. D.O. trained for about two years under SM Entertainment before debuting with EXO in 2012. Now he is not only one of the members of the most successful K-pop group, but also a rising actor with positive reviews about their skills from both critics and ordinary viewers.

Kai

Started out as a dancer. When Kai was a child, his father enrolled him in various after-school activities. Of all of them Kai showed the greatest interest and talent in jazz dancing.

So, from the second grade, Kai attended dance classes. In the fourth grade, while watching the Nutcracker ballet, he realized that he wanted to dance like the people on stage. He started taking ballet lessons, inspired by what he saw classical ballet. And the decision to try myself as a singer was influenced by famous group Shinhwa.

Kai came to SM Entertainment's audition when he was still in 6th grade. Earlier Kai mentioned his father in the episode " Knowing Bros", explaining that his father is main reason that he is now a member EXO.

“My father promised to buy me a Nintendo game if I passed the audition. That's the first reason I auditioned."

Unfortunately, SM Entertainment decided that Kai was too young at that moment and eliminated him at the audition, asking him to come back in a year or two if he still wanted to become a singer. From now on Kai I started studying street and urban dances, all this on the way to my dream.

Kai finally joined SM Entertainment when he was in 8th grade in 2007, after winning "Best Dancer" and "Most Popular" at the 10th Annual SM Best Teen Contest.

Kai trained for five years before debuting with EXO in 2012.

Sehun

Literally caught on the street. His story is so interesting that he has shared it on numerous TV shows and interviews.

Sehun, as an elementary school student, was eating "Tteokbokki (떡볶이, spicy rice cakes)" as a quick snack after school when an SM Entertainment casting assistant approached him to give him a business card.

“I was very young at the time. My parents taught me that I should avoid interaction and run away if a stranger approaches. So I ran away fromcasting-manager within 30 minutes."

He trained for four years with SM Entertainment before debuting as the group's maknae (막내, youngest) member. EXO.

Luhan(former member)

He was involved in sports professionally, dreaming of becoming a famous football player. He also enjoyed singing and dancing and often performed at school events. Parents Lujana They objected to him becoming a footballer, but supported his desire to choose a career as an artist.

Luhan trained for three years before debuting with EXO as part of EXO-M. His decision to leave the group and sue his agency in 2014 shocked many fans. After countless trials Luhan still remains under SM Entertainment but is no longer part of EXO.

Chris(former member)

wasn't interested in becoming a celebrity until Kpop caught up with him.

In fact, he was an avid basketball player with the makings of a leader, which made him captain of his school team in Canada, but he had to stop playing after he injured his leg.

When a friend of his who really liked Kpop signed up for the 2007 SM global audition held in Canada, Chris I also decided to take part. He passed the audition, flew to Korea in 2008, and began training with SM Entertainment.

During his internship, he starred in a concert video Girls' Generation in Taiwan.

Chris trained for five years before his debut with EXO EXO-M in 2012. Two years later, in 2014, Chris also opposed SM Entertainment to cancel his contract. It still remains under SM Entertainment but is no longer part of EXO.

Tao(former member)
