Naples is the capital of the province of Campania and the third largest city in Italy. Its location is unusual - at the foot of the famous volcano Vesuvius. The architectural appearance of Naples is eclectic: Baroque, Gothic and modern. The population of about 1.5 million speaks a distinct dialect of Italian and even considers itself a separate ethnic group. They even say that there are 3 prices for all goods in the city: for locals, other Italians and foreigners.

The distinctive features of the townspeople are musicality and piety. Naples is the birthplace of the great Enrique Caruso and the famous Neapolitan songs. spent many years here music Festival“Naples against everyone,” the title of which emphasized the rejection of newfangled musical trends. The city is home to the oldest pizzeria in Italy, so Naples is considered the birthplace of pizza. Every year PizzaFest is held here with the participation of the best chefs.

At the same time, it should be noted that there are a lot of thieves in the city, and some of its neighborhoods, to put it mildly, are not sparkling with cleanliness. Near the Royal Palace is the Basilica di San Francesco di Paola, which replicates the Roman Pantheon in architecture.

Basilica of San Francesco di Paola

Have you had breakfast on a cruise ship? If not, then here, on Piazza del Plebescito, is the famous pizzeria Brandi, where Margherita pizza was first prepared. It is unforgivable to be in Naples and not try pizza. If you are not hungry, then try another gastronomic attraction of Naples - ice cream. It was in this city that Spumoni was first introduced - a mixture of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla ice cream. And you can do this in the no less famous cafe Gran Caffe Gambrinus: Oscar Wilde and Ernest Hemingway visited here.

Let's continue our walk. Not far from the Royal Palace is the Teatro San Carlo opera house, the oldest operating theater in Europe. It has been in operation since 1737 and is 40 years older than Milan's famous La Scala. The Teatro San Carlo is famous for its amazing acoustics. Between the theater and the Via Toledo shopping street is the Galleria Umberto I, whose huge dome is 184 m high. There are numerous boutiques inside.

The most interesting thing is that every year on September 19 - the day of the execution of Januarius, as well as on the first Saturday in May, the saint’s blood again becomes liquid and seems to boil. These days the city is filled with crowds of pilgrims.

Day

After visiting Cathedral It would be nice to take a break. Moreover, it was lunch time. Not far from the cathedral is the typically Neapolitan street Via dei Tribunali, where the fiercely competing establishments Di Matteo (number 94) and Il Pizzaiolo del Presidente (129/12) are located. You can have a delicious lunch in each of them. It goes without saying that, among other things, you will be offered signature pizza.

Continuing along the same street, exit to the Chiesa del Gesu Nuovo church. The interior is attractive: the walls are painted with frescoes and covered with bas-reliefs. Opposite this church is a large monastery Santa Chiara. It is interesting for its beautiful courtyard with majolica gallery, columns and benches. A visit to the courtyard and museum will cost 4 euros.

Interior of the Church of Gesu Nuovo

Guests of Naples are strongly impressed by the unique exhibits from the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum, located in the famous Archaeological Museum (Museo Piazza, 19). Don’t be lazy to go there (Museo metro stop) and don’t regret 8 euros for admission ticket. Antique sculptures are also exhibited here, including the famous statue of Hercules Farnese from the 3rd century. There are exhibits of an erotic nature in a separate room.

There are many catacombs and underground passages in Naples, some of them can be visited (until 16:00 on weekdays and 18:00 on Saturday and Sunday). One of the entrances to underground Naples is near the Church of San Paolo-Maggiore in Piazza San Gaetano.

Evening

An eventful day in Naples is coming to an end. But finally, before returning to the cruise port, you can have time to see one more attraction - the “Egg Castle” of the 12th century Castel dell’Ovo. It is located on a volcanic island in the Gulf of Naples and is connected to the promenade by a thin isthmus. According to legend, a magical egg was placed in the foundation of the castle by the Roman poet Virgil. Over its long history, the castle has been an estate, a fortress, a prison, and a museum. Entrance to the castle is free, and its upper level offers stunning views of the Bay of Naples and the city.

Evening in Naples

To consolidate your impressions of the historical sights of Naples, it is recommended to take a short trip evening walk in the city center. Piazza San Domenico and the nearby Piazza Jesus, this area of the city is home to small bars and restaurants.

If you are in the mood to take a walk along the city embankment - best choice there will be Mergellina in Naples. Despite its location it is always crowded. Therefore, it is not suitable for lovers of silence. But if you want to have fun, try real Italian wine or famous bagels, Mergellina restaurants and cafes will always provide such an opportunity.

In fact, almost any area of the mystical center of Naples can become a destination for an evening stroll. It all depends on the location of the hotel or villa.

Hi all! My name is Yulia, the first day in the community, filmed in my native Novosibirsk, you can watch. Today I will take you for a walk around Naples. We'll take an early train from Rome and go eat the most famous pizza, trample the embankment with sneakers and listen to the capacious philosophy of Italian life. There is quite a lot of text and photos, I hope you don’t get tired. February 18, Tuesday, 70 photos.

The clock is... too early. I push myself out of bed and the first thing I do is go put on the coffee. My day starts with this unromantic breakfast in the form of a store-bought croissant with cheese and coffee. Usually, according to the old Italian tradition, I go to the bar around the corner for breakfast. They know me well there, “santa trinita” is always waiting for me there - the holy trinity: cappuccino, croissant with Nutella and a newspaper.

I put myself in order, choose the scent of the day, clothes. I check to see if I took everything I needed with me: phone, map, tickets, book.

Although I don’t like my current apartment, a good view from the balcony can smooth out a lot. It’s still too dark now, my favorite pine tree is sleeping and doesn’t want to be photographed.

I leave the house at 6.50. Photo greetings from the elevator

I have to walk about three minutes to the stop, I see a bus passing by and I run after it as fast as I can. Fortunately, I have time, I relax, now I’ll definitely be on time for the train. We can say that I was extremely lucky with this bus; I could have waited a long time for it. We cross the bridge from Trastevere and go to Piazza Venezia with the famous Altar of the Fatherland.

Here we are at Termini station, even earlier than necessary. Wait for the train to Naples for more than half an hour, departure at 7.49
I've been wanting to go to Naples for a month now, to turn gray at big water, eat seafood. A little whimsy in the middle of a session, why not?!

I wander around idle inside and outside. I go into a huge bookstore which I call “Boris Books”. Once, three years ago, I read the title incorrectly, and it stuck. I look at the books and notice a couple of funny ones, “What to wear with broken hearted" For example.

And here I am on the train. On the road I read "Crazy Sexual Diet". From healthy image I’m far from living with yoga and veganism, I’m collecting information, studying the topic, maybe something will be useful to me. After reading it, I want to undergo the three-week body cleansing described in the book in order to become completely crazy and sexy :-)

It’s already light outside and Italy is showing us its beautiful landscapes. An hour's drive from Rome is a city called "Latina". Meeting a young man from Latin for the first time, and having not heard this name before, I whistled and started speaking in Spanish. The guy looked at me in bewilderment. Latina doesn't equal Latin America Friends.

Two hours, a bottle of San Pellegrino, a ticket for 10 euros, and here we are in Naples!

Garibaldi meets us at the station square. When I see him, I always hum the Italian song “Garibaldi fu ferito...”, about how Garibaldi was wounded in the leg.

We pass by a store with stones and accessories for jewelry. When I was there a year ago, the selection was better and the prices were lower. So we don’t need your stones, let’s move on.

I stop to check with the navigator, I need the Street named after Pasta Carbonara. And here is the right street!

Typical Naples times

I pass by some cathedral and take a photo, a sociable man standing nearby tells me what’s inside the tomb, there’s a museum inside, and persuades me to come in. I go in, it’s really beautiful inside, and by the way, there’s a burial place too. It turned out that this is the Cathedral of St. Giovanni.

I go outside, the sun, 20 degrees, heat. Very close by, on via Settembrini 79, is the MADRE Museum of Contemporary Art. It is unfortunately closed on Tuesdays, but is definitely worth a visit. Among other things, MADRE presents one of the works of the talented Studio Azzurro team, famous for its unusual installations, go to their website, you won’t regret it! An entertaining short film “Armandino and the Madre Museum” was also shot about the museum.

Typical Naples two

And finally the Duomo itself. I had never been there before and was pleasantly surprised by what I saw, let’s just say that now this is my favorite of all the Duomo! There are many, many red flower beds on the area in front of the entrance. And what's inside...!

Da Michele is an old pizzeria, operating since 1870. This place became known to everyone after the acclaimed book “Eat, Pray, Love” and the film based on Julia Roberts in leading role. If you remember it said: " Considering that the best pizza in Italy is Neapolitan, and the best pizza in the world, of course, comes from Italy, the prospect of visiting this pizzeria seems very tempting - because it means that they serve... it’s scary to even say... the best pizza in the world!

I’ve been to Da Michele before, and it’s really very tasty, but you know... in Rome there’s even tastier pizza!

The pizzeria is packed with guests from the very morning, and in the evening you will have to stand in line to get into it. The menu here is simple and unchanged, Margherita, plain or with double mozzarella, marinara pizza (with anchovies), and a choice of drinks: soda, water, beer.

The decoration is very simple, there is a photo with a star on the walls.

My delicious beauty cost me 6 euros, including a bottle of cold beer.
It's 12 o'clock right time for lunch.

A souvenir photo with the charismatic staff.

Leaving the pizzeria, I head along Corso Umberto towards the Basilica of Santa Chiara. Passing by the Museum natural sciences I see a joyful, elegant company. Here she is an Italian lady, they dress and eat in Italy not according to impulse and the call of the soul, but according to the season and time. And even if it’s +20 outside, the senora will be in a jacket, or, as it is here, in a fur coat, because it’s February. By the way, at that moment I was dreaming of a fan, it was so hot.

I turn onto Via Benedetto Croce, with many delicious shops, souvenirs and other things. The prices here are much nicer than in the capital.

In one of these shops I see her, a beautiful Neapolitan woman, emphasis on the last syllable. The Neapolitan woman is not the same as our rum woman. We won’t compare them, we’ll just enjoy them. I buy one baba and one sfogliatella to take away and pay 3 euros.

I pass by beautiful courtyards, an inviting seafood counter and reach the Basilica.

My stripped down student ID to the Basilica of Santa Chiara costs 4.5. As soon as you enter the door you find yourself in a fairy tale, with orange trees, frescoes and mosaics. The entire complex consists of a church, a monastery and a museum.

Would you like some sweet oranges?

One of the workers calmly picks a lemon and some parsley from a tree. Various greens grow in small beds, but the sweetest word for me is prezzemolo, I love parsley!

At the exit you can look at the presepi-nativity scene; the most beautiful compositions are made in Naples. On Christmas night, baby Jesus is carried into the manger.

After Santa Chiara, I want to take a walk to Piazza Dante, and then go to the embankment. No sooner said than done. The poet looks majestically at the city.

To get to the embankment I walk along the large clothing street of Toledo. It is also famous for the fact that it has the most beautiful metro station in Naples, but I don’t need to go there. I go to the Pandora store to buy a charm for a bracelet in memory of this good trip, but my card does not work, I take this as a sign that it is not the time for a purchase. A cocky Neapolitan teenager looks at us from the right.

We are very close to the embankment, on piazza del plebiscito. I really love this square, the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola standing on it was once built in the likeness of the Pantheon

Royal Palace, inside there is a national library.

The proud, proud bird is posing for me

Here we are by the water, I really like to just sit and look into the distance. Of course, today’s plans included a trip to the huge Capodimonte museum-gallery, but after estimating the time, I realized that if I decided to go there, I wouldn’t really be able to sit by the water. We'll leave the gallery for another time. We've been idle for a long, long time.

Vesuvius can be seen in the distance. The embankment is very long, so I slowly walk along it, periodically getting stuck on one view or another.

Sea reptiles were a mandatory item on the program. I sit down at a restaurant on the shore that I like and order a plate of seafood

While I’m photographing my plate from all angles, the real thing is unfolding at the next table. love story. Both are between 40 and 50 years old, he is from the north, she is from Naples. He is not divorced, but in the popular Italian status of “separato” (in general, I don’t love my wife anymore, but I’m still married), the woman opposite is very drawn to him, at some point she sheds a tear saying that he has always been her best friend. Like teenagers kissing and holding hands non-stop, romantic and sad, he leaves in the evening. At some point, the man utters a phrase into which, in my opinion, the entire Italian philosophy can easily fit. “I try to enjoy what the new day gives me, what I have, to be honest, at peace with myself. If possible, to build and create.” This is such a simple and correct phrase, as the Italian wisdom says, chi si accontenta gode, happiness is to be content with what you have.

Along with the bill they bring me a glass of digestif. It’s 16.36, it’s time to move towards the station.

As a dessert, I have curly sfogliatella, which I eat while admiring the sky before sunset.

Castello dell'ovo glows in the sun. I’ve already been there, so I released this item today. I note that a magnificent panorama opens up from there.

I walk to the nearest metro, it’s a good 25 minutes walk. The ticket cost 1.30 and I still didn’t understand where it was supposed to be inserted, the turnstiles simply let me through. In general, it would be possible without a ticket, but I am law-abiding.

On this beautiful note, you can say goodbye to Naples, then the station and the road begin.

I buy a bottle of water from the vending machine, wait for the train while reading the LJ feed. The man sitting next to me gives me a lecture on the topic that we all spend too much time on the phone and computer, I actually agree with him. I take the train at 18.40, 10 euros, two hours and something, I’m in Rome.

Rome has incredibly delicious air, and you can only appreciate it by leaving it. I love coming back here and greedily inhaling the Roman air, just until I get used to it again :) From Termini we are interested in bus H going towards Trastavere.

When I get home, the first thing I do is make tea, this is my favorite, with dill, cinnamon and something else. It is better to drink it after meals - it helps digestion.

That's what the clock says now. I'm very tired and want to sleep. The day was long and eventful. I answer the mail, write a letter to my mother: the mafia didn’t steal me, I’m alive and well :-)

Quick shower and quick photo. At 23.00 I am in bed.

Thank you for spending My One Naples with me. Good night and have a nice coming day!
