The best performances. The best performances according to the audience. Musical Theater named after Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko

There is no other city in the world where theatrical life is so rich... In New York or London, for example, there are at most 2-3 good dramatic productions during the entire theater season, and they are staged as enterprises, every day during the season, and then filmed from the theater repertoire. In some theaters in Moscow there are performances that have been going on for years and which, like good wine, only get better, being honed to impeccable performance... If you love theater, and Workshop of Peter Fomenko If this is not an empty phrase for you, then the list of performances I offer below is definitely for you. If you have watched some of the performances recommended below and liked them, then the rest will most likely also be to your taste, and then this is a guide to action. If you watched all these performances and liked them, then you and I will probably just be pleased that our tastes coincide.

If you have never gone to the theater, but decided to fill the gap or impress a girl or young man, then this list is also for you. Feel free to go to any of these performances, and you will be guaranteed strong impressions and topics for discussion for the rest of the evening. Perhaps the choice will seem too “classical” to some, and you are right - these are my personal preferences: I am not close to shocking in theatrical art. And I also love when everything in a play is strong: the direction, the acting, the set design, and the play itself with dialogue and storyline.

So, 35 of the best performances at 9 theater venues in Moscow.

I'll start with my favorite theater - PETER FOMENKO'S WORKSHOP. The founder of the theater, Pyotr Fomenko, died in 2012, but as a true visionary (“ seer", English. - editor's note), he not only prepared a replacement for himself (Evgeniy Kamenkovich), but also 3 generations of actors, thereby ensuring continuity in quality productions for years to come... In this theater you can watch everything, but there is something that is absolutely must-see.

Performances with the participation of the 1st generation of “Fomenki” (Polina and Ksenia Kutepova, Galina Tyunina, Madeleine Dzhabrailova)

1. "Wolves and Sheep". 5 hours of Ostrovsky classics, and you won’t want the performance to end. I still don’t understand how Fomenko managed to stage the classics THIS way...

2. "War and Peace". The beginning of the novel. Tolstoy is not easy to stage, but you will truly enjoy the performance.

3. "Family happiness". Another performance based on Tolstoy... It’s a breeze to watch.

4. "Theatrical Romance". Familiarization with the biography of Bulgakov or at least with the history of the relationship between his “White Guard” and the Moscow Art Theater is mandatory for a complete understanding of the performance! Only then will you understand the plot completely and laugh throughout the performance. Performances with the participation of the 2nd generation of “Fomenki” (“singing” Polina Agureeva)

5. One absolutely happy village. This is probably the only performance that has been going on for years, and there are still no tickets for it on sale... Polina Agureeva is incomparable.

6. Dowryless woman. It’s worth watching at least for Agureeva’s singing... If you liked “Cruel Romance”, you will definitely like this version of Ostrovsky. Performance with the participation of the 3rd generation of “Fomenki”

7. Russian man at rendez-vous. Turgenev looks like an exciting romantic drama in the cinema... Critics in this performance pay attention to Serafima Ogareva - the performer of the role of Gemma, but I personally predict a great future for the other main character and the actress playing her - Ekaterina Smirnova. This red-haired actress has so much drive and life!!!

Oleg Tabakov, like Pyotr Fomenko, also tries to provide theater venues for different directors and actors of different “venerability.” And, although most of the female roles in the main stage performances are given to his wife Marina Zudina, my choice falls on performances without her participation.

8. New American. A wonderful and funny performance directed by Pyotr Stein based on an “assortment” of Dovlatov’s works, where Dmitry Brusnikin plays the main role, and the ensemble is complemented by Alexander Semchev, Daria Yurskaya, Igor Vernik, Evgeny Kindinov.

9. Messrs. Golovlevs. Watch because of the amazing performance of Yevgeny Mironov - the performance that makes me consider him the best living actor in our country. This is the only performance staged by the “outrageous” Kirill Serebryannikov on my list.

10. White Guard. A good production of a good play with good actors. The director is Sergei Zhenovach, who, due to the presence of his own theater (Theatrical Art Studio), now rarely stages anywhere outside of it, so it is a great pleasure to watch his work with a whole galaxy of wonderful actors.

11. Kreutzer Sonata. The best work of Mikhail Porechenkov in the theater. In my humble opinion.

12. Migrating goose. Prepare handkerchiefs. Everyone is crying. A very sad performance staged by the sad Marina Brusnikina. If you are in a bad mood, after watching it it will deteriorate even more... For me personally, Marina Brusnikina’s productions are prohibited in principle - they are too depressing and sad...

13. №13. Insanely funny English comedy. If you want to watch a comedy, then No. 13 is the best choice from the entire list. Have fun in the company of the wonderful Evgeny Mironov.

14. Little Humpbacked Horse. An excellent musical performance with Irina Pegova in the role of the Tsar Maiden. Children and adults will be delighted!

In this theater, any performance created by the tandem Kama Ginkas (director) - Sergei Barkhin (set design) is already worth watching. If composer Leonid Desyatnikov also joins the tandem, the impression is even stronger. Start with a trilogy of productions of Chekhov's Black Monk-Lady with Rothschild's Dog-Violin in any order.

15. Lady with a dog. A lyrical and familiar story. Ideal for dates. Separately, it is worth noting the scenography.

16. Black Monk. The best of the trilogy. The acting duo Sergei Makovetsky - Igor Yasulovich received a state prize for this performance. Deservedly. The performance excites and does not let go for a long, long time.

17. Rothschild violin. I was a little less impressed than The Black Monk, but worth a watch. Barkhin's set design is above all praise, and Igor Yasulovich's performance is no less impressive.

18. K.I. from Crime. One actor performance. Or rather, one actress. Katerina Ivanovna performed by Oksana Mysina is a perfect “explosion of the brain and perception” - incredible intensity and level of skill...

19. Medea. The performance of an unfamiliar performer in the role of Medea was a revelation. It is better for very young mothers not to watch.

20. Meek. In 2011, Igor Gordin received the Golden Mask for Best Actor for his role in this play. I watched him in a dozen other performances, and I don’t think he’s a good, stable, but “nothing special” actor... I went to watch the performance with curiosity. Perhaps the director of the play worked well with him, perhaps he accumulated a critical mass of skill, but with his performance in this play for me he entered the galaxy of actors for whom one can go to see performances in the future... Dostoevsky’s play was new for me, and together with her amazing performance, Gordina made such an impression on me that after the performance I couldn’t speak at all for some time...

I don’t really like this theater, but from time to time they stage masterpieces there.

21. Autumn Sonata. The strongest performance by the best theater actress Marina Neelova, who, due to her permanent residence in France, rarely appears on the Russian stage. The performance (Bergman's play) will provide the strongest experiences for those women who have problems with mutual understanding with their mothers or adult daughters.

22. Five evenings. At the same time, the play was staged in several theaters in Moscow, but I liked Sergei Garmash’s performance the most. Worth going for his acting and Evgenia Simonova as a “supporting actress” ( supporting actress - English, ed.)

23. Hidden perspective. Chulpan Khamatova in the title role already ensures “must see” status for any performance. The success of this performance based on the play “Timestandsstill” is complemented by the interesting directorial work of Israeli director Evgeniy Arie and the performance of Alexander Filippenko. If you want to go to a performance, after which discussions, debates, and debates on a “given topic” are guaranteed, then this performance will definitely provide you with such an opportunity.

24. Pygmalion. Classics performed by Sergei Makovetsky. What could be more beautiful and stable?

The theater itself would not be worth mentioning if it were not for the opportunity to watch the wonderful work of the young rising star Yulia Peresild.

25. Warsaw melody. The male lead role is played well by Daniil Strakhov, but Yulia significantly outplays him.

The theater not only received Yevgeny Mironov as its director, but also a new beautiful venue. Now you can see Mironov in this theater more often than in others...

26. Shukshin's stories. Expectedly good duet of Evgeny Mironov and Chulpan Khamatova. I believe that the “younger generation”, not familiar with the Russian life of Soviet times, may not be very interested in the play itself...

27. Caligula. I added the play to the list without having seen it myself. But Caligula performed by Evgeny Mironov and directed by the consistently good Lithuanian director Nekrosius seems to me to be a win-win option. In 2012, Mironov received the “Golden Max” in the category “Best Actor” for this role.

28. Grönholm method. Fans of the mafia game, HR employees, psychologists, as well as those who like unusual interview methods are a must watch! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen in theaters a combination of an exciting plot (it looks like a psychological thriller) and excellent acting. The entire quartet of actors perform wonderfully, Chonishvili especially stands out. Quite an unexpected ending.

The theater reform also provided a new artistic director, Mindaugas Karbauskis. Look to the future posters for his production and they are guaranteed to be good.

29. Dead souls. Surprisingly nestled among the mediocre productions of the pre-Karbauski era of the Mayakovsky Theater, this is the best production of “Dead Souls” that I have ever seen anywhere. The emphasis is placed in such a way that you are amazed at how nothing changes in Russia...

I haven’t been to this theater for probably 10 years, having seen almost everything there before. But neither “The Bumbarash Passion” nor several more performances with Evgeny Mironov and Vladimir Mashkov are on anymore... Together with you, I will try to return to the good old Tabakerka in the new year...

30. Devil. Another performance that I personally have not yet seen, but the play itself, the director (they say, a talented student of Sergei Zhenovach), and the actors promise a strong impression from the performance. It is especially interesting to look at the performance of Maxim Matveev, whom we have already seen on movie screens.

STI (the theater of Sergei Zhenovach and the only completely “private” theater in Moscow) became a discovery for me last year. Before that, I had seen many of Zhenovach’s performances, but I didn’t know that he had his own stage. In, as in the Pyotr Fomenko Workshop, you can watch everything or almost everything, but I will complete the list with the five best theater performances in my opinion. Pay attention to the “star” of STI - actor Alexei Vertkov.

31. Players. The direction and set design are impeccable. Everything was thought out to the smallest detail, including the animated bust of Gogol at the end of the performance.

32. Boys. In this way, only Pyotr Fomenko, apart from Zhenovach, could probably “decompose” not the most exciting theme from Dostoevsky’s “The Brothers Karamazov”...

33. Seedy family. And in this performance it is obvious that Zhenovach is a student of Pyotr Fomenko and learned from him how to stage classics so that the performance lasts 4 hours, and you don’t want it to end... Leskov’s work itself was unfamiliar to me, which made the performance even more interesting.

34. Potudan River. Before the performance they feed you baked potatoes in their jackets. The only theater performance for which it is really difficult to buy tickets is sold only “in person” only on the 3rd Sunday of the month. The performance is defined by the director as an “intimate conversation” and is performed in a small hall for 30 spectators.

So, if you visit theaters about once a week, this list will last until the end of 2013, taking into account summer holidays. Happy viewing!

More interesting performances that are worth including in your weekend program are widely presented on our website. The choice is so great that everyone will find something worthwhile and suitable for themselves. Our website presents performances staged based on classical Russian literature, as well as absurd performances that are very popular today.

I would like to recommend you the play “Eugene Onegin” by Pushkin. This performance from director Rimas Tuminas is a unique attempt to understand the entire essence of the Russian soul and Russian character, and to subject them to analysis. Russian society is presented from all sides, the charm of the village and the coldness and hostility of high society are shown. The production presents different characters: the reverent Tatyana and the playful Olga. The play “Eugene Onegin” from the eminent director completely destroys generally accepted stereotypes, the production turned out to be bright, original, it is built harmoniously and musically, but at the same time harshly and very emotionally. In this performance, the viewer will discover a new, previously unsuspected meaning in the character of the characters and the plot of the work itself.

Our website provides reliable information not only about all the theaters in the capital, but also about the productions that take place in these theaters. The capital constantly hosts a huge variety of different productions and theatrical events. Of course, true connoisseurs of art and avid theatergoers are aware of all theater premieres and new trends in the life of the theater. But what should an inexperienced viewer do? Our company exists for such purposes. "Dowryless" Photo by Natalia Cheban

“Dowryless”, dir. Dmitry Krymov, School of Dramatic Art

Dmitry Krymov's Ostrovsky is again relevant, absurd and merciless. As in “Late Love”, and even earlier - in “Katerina’s Dreams”. Why "Z"? - you ask. Because it rings and returns the meaning to the word. “In the center of the story is such a “Russian Carmen,” only she is surrounded not by romantic bullfighters and soldiers who violate military regulations, but by a strictly hierarchical and cruel team of business people with strange, fictitious names, for example, Mokiy Parmenych and Kharita Ignatievna. This allows us to look at them as characters in the Russian black comedy dell’arte, and at Ostrovsky as the founder of a special genre in Russian drama,” explains the director himself.

Shakespeare in love, Theatre. Pushkin. Photo by A. Morkovkin

"Shakespeare in Love", dir. Evgeny Pisarev, Theater named after. Pushkin

Nominated: Best Performance. Big form"

The play is based on an Oscar-winning screenplay by the outstanding British playwright Tom Stoppard. This is a witty fantasy based on the biography of William Shakespeare, in which a young playwright finds lost inspiration thanks to sudden love and creates one of his most important masterpieces - the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. A mischievous and sad story about people of the Renaissance who value honor and dignity above all else, believe in friendship and brotherhood and are ready to fight to the death for the sake of their love.

"Fun times." Photo by Ekaterina Tsvetkova

"Fun Times", dir. Mikhail Rakhlin, Moscow Art Theater named after. Chekhov

The performance is based on the Hollywood comedy film Ninotchka, filmed in 1939. His heroes are Soviet emissaries who arrive in Paris on instructions from the party to sell jewelry nationalized after the revolution, but the beautiful life in the capital of capitalist France literally intoxicates them. To bring the matter to an end, a stern party worker, Nina Yakusheva, is sent to them from Moscow...

Stefan Zweig. Novels. Photo by Mikhail Guterman

"Stefan Zweig. Novellas”, Theater named after. Vakhtangov

Nomination: “Best Performance. Small form"

Graduates of the Rimas Tuminas Workshop staged the famous short stories by Stefan Zweig: “Leporella”, “The Invisible Collection”, “Coercion”, “Chess Novella”. These are small performances where people love, suffer, and everyone has their own “adventure of the soul.”

Zweig's books are still translated into many languages around the world. The author was aware of the abysses of life, he studied them as an artist and psychologist. Each of his characters is valuable in itself, his private life, crossroads and passions are written out in volume, concisely, and in detail. He is a master of the small genre. His novels were less successful, but his short stories were perfect in their own way.

"Turandot", dir. Boris Konstantinov, Theater named after. Obraztsova

Nomination: “Best Performance. Small form"

Another puppet show for adults was staged by Boris Konstantinov. Together with the artist Viktor Antonov, he came up with his own fairy-tale China, placing it under the Arcu-Venetian bridge, where the story of Princess Turandot and the Astrakhan prince Calaf floats across the black surface of the water. Flying arrows and burning cities, sophisticated torture and seductive slaves - all this awaits the audience of "Turandot".

"The Queen of Spades", dir. Dmitry Bertman, Helikon Opera

“Either I’m terribly mistaken, or The Queen of Spades is, in fact, a masterpiece...” wrote Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky to Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich. Well, time has put everything in its place - the opera, created in just 44 days in Florence, has acquired truly planetary fame and continues to hold the palm among all Russian operas in the world repertoire.

The Queen of Spades is considered Tchaikovsky's best creation by the world-famous conductor Vladimir Fedoseev. He took over the leadership of the musical process of recreating the production at Helikon Opera. The original reading, modern stage language, love for Tchaikovsky’s music, which became the hallmarks of Helikon’s “Queen of Spades,” are preserved in the new version. To this were added the thoughtful gaze of maestro Fedoseev, the stunning stage capabilities of the new hall and the artistic talent of the Helikon troupe.

“Dog in the Manger”, dir. Tatyana Konstantinova, Operetta Theater

Nomination: "Best Musical Performance"

In the musical version of the famous play by Lope de Vega, passionate love and jealousy, Spanish motives and a mysterious story leading to a happy ending are intertwined. The role of the proud and capricious Diana is played by Elena Zaitseva and Vasilisa Nikolaeva, and the passionate lover Teodoro is played by Pavel Ivanov and Leonid Bakhtalin.

"Blue, Blue Bird", dir. Oleg Glushkov, Theater of Nations

Director Oleg Glushkov, known to the general public as the choreographer of the film “Hipsters,” promises viewers wonderful music, magical scenery and costumes, smart and funny texts, and, of course, beautiful dancing. “We wrote a completely new, original story and told it in modern language. It relies on the traditions of the author's fairy tale, but lives here and now. And the imagination and real miracles here are more than enough for ten “ordinary” performances,” says the director.

"The Snow Maiden", dir. Igor Bunakov, Children's Variety Theater

Nomination: "Best Performance for Children and Youth"

The performance is based on the fairy tale by Alexander Ostrovsky, beloved by all generations. The musical basis of the performance is Russian folk motifs in a new way, the fresh and modern sound of which will definitely appeal to audiences of any age.
