The most important wish is your convenience. Bellydance is a very feminine dance. It involves a dialogue not only with the viewer, but also with one’s own body, so clothes should allow free movement and the body to breathe.

For beginners, it is important to see how the movements are made in the mirror, so it is better to choose light knitted trousers and T-shirts that fit well and allow you to follow the movements of the stomach. You can choose leggings or shorts. It will be even more convenient to exercise if your tummy is open, but this is not a mandatory requirement.

In order to emphasize the movements of the hips and create the mood, an oriental scarf or shawl that is tied at the hips is suitable. In any case, you don’t need anything special for the first lesson - a training kit can be put together from scraps from your existing wardrobe.

Historically, bellydance was danced barefoot, but the realities of life are such that now, even on stage, dancers most often wear shoes - ballet flats or low-heeled shoes. Therefore, for classes you definitely need replacement shoes - Czech shoes or ballet shoes. Sneakers, high-heeled shoes, and sneakers are not suitable for oriental dancing, as they restrict the function of the foot. If you don’t have ballet shoes, come to the first lesson in socks, then, if you wish, get dance shoes.

You will only need the colorful costume with which we are all accustomed to associate belly dancing for performances, and you should buy it after the start of classes, when you understand which costume suits your style, and the instructor will help you choose a cut to suit your figure.

  • "Rocking chair". To perform this element, you need to stand on your toes, bend your knees, and draw a vertical line through your navel. Along this straight line it is necessary to move your hips back and forth and up and down (that is, in the horizontal and vertical plane).
  • "Pendulum". The right thigh rises up and moves to the side, then drops down simultaneously with the rise of the left thigh.
  • Circular movements of the hips. Your back should be kept straight. Mentally, you need to draw a horizontal circle for yourself, along the line of which you should move your hips (at the same time, the lower back bends as much as possible).
  • Reset circles. While the pelvis describes a circle at the maximum rear point, you should perform a hip release in the direction from top to bottom. Circular movements can be horizontal, vertical, frontal.
  • "Wave". The upper body is motionless, only the hips work. You need to stand on your toes, half turn towards the viewer. Mentally draw a vertical circle passing through the thigh bones. It is along the line of this imaginary circle that you should move your hips. The element is supplemented with forward or sideways movements. The wave in oriental dance can be frontal or lateral.
