The first cartoon. The very first cartoon in the world. The first Soviet cartoon

People have always been imaginative. They were able to bring inanimate objects (images) to life for the first time more than a hundred years ago using special techniques.

Modern animation includes several types, styles and methods of film creation. Each country has its own cartoon characters and its own unique story development of animated films.

In 1924 the first appears soviet cartoon, filmed by documentary director David Abelevich Kaufman (Dziga Vertov). This is not a children's entertainment cartoon. Here, for 10 minutes, with the help of a drawing that seems primitive at first glance, the history of the formation of the USSR is shown. The title of the film is “Soviet Toys.” The film was shot at Goskino. What’s interesting is that at the end of the cartoon they offer to create an advertisement.

The main heroes of that time were the people, workers, peasants, Red Army soldiers, the proletariat and, of course, those with whom they had to fight. Well-fed, arrogant bourgeois, priests (church) and tavern entertainment (dancer). The musical background is constantly changing, conveying the change of events and mood in the cartoon. In the end, it all ended with a New Year tree and fireworks - this is a sign that it has begun new life. Instead of toys, the Red Army soldiers hung all their enemies on the Christmas tree.

The first Soviet cartoons had more political overtones, being a means of propaganda.

The very first cartoon in Russia for kids

The first surviving cartoon for children is "The Rink". The film was shot by the director, founder of the school of Soviet animation, Ivan Ivanov-Vano, based on Chukovsky’s fairy tale “Senka the African.”

This is also a silent, musical, hand-drawn film. The main plot is bold a little boy in Budenovka, who defeats the fat man “bourgeois” and rushes to the aid of the figure skater.

In 1913, Vladislav Starevich filmed a black-and-white, musical with subtitles, puppet cartoon “The Dragonfly and the Ant.” His great worldwide success took place in Russian Empire. This film was intended for both young and older viewers. The plot of Krylov's fable was taken as a basis; the duration of the cartoon was 4 minutes.

In Moscow, 1936 (June 10), the largest Russian studio “Soyuzdetmultfilm” was created and began its work. Children's rooms are beginning to be created cartoons. The first film was hand-drawn, black and white, released at the studio, it was in the genre of children's comedy and was called “It's Hot in Africa.” The adventure of the animals is described here.

Also in 1936, the first Russian color cartoon was released at the Mosfilm film studio, under the direction of director Sarra Mokil. This is a three-color puppet, musical, voice-over film-fairy tale “The Fox and the Wolf”, based on a Russian fairy tale. Duration 18 minutes.

Walt Disney's very first cartoon in America

In 1924 (March 1) - Disney presented its audience with the cartoon “Alice's Day at Sea,” which subsequently opened a whole series of 56 episodes about Alice’s adventures.

But this is a slightly different story - “Alice in Animation Land”. The comedy genre was used here. Combining cinema and cartoon (Alice is a living character) - Walt places the heroine in a drawn world. The duration of the cartoon is 12 minutes. Little Alice and her dog friend decided to take a walk to the sea. There they met the captain, who told Alice about his sea adventures.

The tired girl decided to take a nap in empty boat, on the shore she dreamed that she was falling on the seabed. On her way, Alice meets many sea inhabitants who are cartoon characters. This is a light children's story in a cartoon with captions and musical accompaniment. He wasn't too popular. These were the first works of the great animator.

When did the oldest (anime) cartoon in the world come out?

Anime is a part of Japanese culture and is very popular among children, teenagers and adults in many countries around the world. Cartoons of this style are produced in different genres. Unfortunately, the author who created the oldest Japanese anime in 1907 has not been identified. It was assembled from hand-drawn pictures. The moving boy spells out the word “cinema” from hieroglyphs and takes off his hat to the audience. The duration of this anime is 3 seconds.

Manga is considered the predecessor of anime. This word appeared in 1814 thanks to the artist Katsushika Hokusai. These are black and white sketches drawn in ink. Stories in pictures, later comics. "Marumaru Timbun" - the magazine first published comics on Japanese with a European accent in 1877.

Many consider the pioneer in Japanese anime to be Dekoten Shimokawa, who in 1917 made sketches on a blackboard using chalk and tried to revive them by recording them on film. His works have not survived. The first films were no more than 1-5 minutes long; they were created by (single) artists, trying to apply the existing knowledge, experience and techniques of Western animators.

Namakura Gatana (created June 30, 1917) is considered one of the first black and white anime. This small, two-minute cartoon was created at the Japanese studio Kobayashi Shokai. The name is translated as “Dull Samurai Sword”. This film is about the incompetence of a samurai who bought a dull sword. Then, to avenge his humiliation, he returned to the seller to resolve the conflict.

One of the first animes included a film - a fairy tale about a crab and a monkey, who are also fabulous samurai. The plot of the film is to take revenge on the vile monkey. The monkey betrayed the crab. The children of the killed crab take revenge and kill the monkey. This cartoon, called “How the Crab Got Revenge on the Monkey,” is based on an old Japanese fairy tale and has a certain meaning.

Every animator at the rise of Japanese cartoon culture contributed to the emergence of various directions and styles Japanese anime. Even the big eyes of Disney characters will later prevail over the characters of Japanese anime. Only since 1958 has anime been officially recognized in art.

If we talk not only about Japan, then there is a controversial opinion that the very first European cartoon was created and filmed using an Edison camera by Blackton in 1906 “Comic Phases of Funny Faces”.

Drawn by French cartoonist Emile Colas. It was called "Phantasmagoria". It took 700 drawings made on a white paper background with black lines. All this was reprinted onto the negative, giving the effect of a chalk drawing.

What is the first color cartoon in history?

Beautiful, melodic music was used famous composer Schubert.

The duration of the film is 7.5 minutes. This short film won an Oscar as the best cartoon of that time.

Wikipedia about the first cartoons in the world

All possible surviving information in the history of the development of world animation can be traced on Wikipedia. Here you will find a statement that primitive animation techniques were discovered in primitive era, thanks to wall images that were painted in a certain sequence. From the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century, technology began to develop rapidly, making it possible to quickly improve the quality of cartoons.

The Frenchman Emile Renault, an artist and inventor, the son of a watchmaker, was in constant search of improving the apparatus (zoetrope) for viewing moving pictures. And in 1877 in Paris he creates a praxinoscope. Using permanent picture backdrops for the first time and adding synchronized music, his pictures come to life in fluid action. He patented this device and therefore August 30, 1877 is considered the birthday of the first hand-drawn animation in the world.

The first animated heroes of cinematography were not endowed with special qualities. These were simply moving pictures that could attract the viewer's attention. In 1914, total animation was used for the cartoon Gertie the Dinosaur. The creator of graphic animation, cartoonist, artist - Winsor McCay, also an American citizen, was a person who created special trends and techniques that influenced the development of world animation. The dinosaur character he created using a drawing (contour) is for the first time endowed with emotions and character.

The title "most old cartoon in the world" was divided among 3 candidates:

  • American cartoonist Stuart Blackton shot 2 films at once: “ Humorous phases of funny faces" And " Haunted Hotel" They were created one after another in 1906 and 1907. The first cartoon was moving pictures drawn in chalk. The man came to life before our eyes and moved without the artist’s help. The people of France were the first to watch it.

Blackton's second work created a greater sensation among viewers. There was movement in it not only of people, but also of inanimate objects, and the operators of the famous Gaumont company were left completely perplexed as to how they managed to “revive” them.

  • The second contender was Emil Kolya with your work" Phantasmagoria", published in 1908. The short film took only one and a half minutes of time, and more than 700 drawings were needed to prepare it. Main character- Fantosha, who fell from the horizontal bar. The very first video film in the world

In the 21st century, we are no longer surprised by colorful special effects, and often even reproach the director for poor quality filming. But when the very first cinema appeared in the world, then there was nothing at all. Everything was done manually without additional devices or computer graphics.

From films we get not just empty information, bare pictures, we draw a lot from them historical facts, biography famous personalities, interesting information about some unknown objects and phenomena. One can only guess how much information is stored in the brains of TV viewers. It is much more interesting to receive information through visualization than to listen to a boring lecture at school while sitting at a desk. This is why children are so happy when a themed movie is announced in class.

How and when did cinematography appear?

Probably, you, film lovers, are interested in knowing who invented cinema and cinematography.

  1. The history of film and cinematography began in 1685 with the invention of the camera obscura, or as it was called the “magic lantern.”
  2. The second step was taken by Michael Faraday in 1839. He invented the Phenakistiscope device, which “revitalized” the drawing. The device was accompanied by a series of pictures depicting sequential movements.
  3. The third step in 1877 was to photograph the galloping horse with 60 different cameras. Thus, they wanted to find out whether the animal raises its legs during fast running. Thanks to this experiment, Louis Dagert and Jose Neps were able to decompose movement into phases.

In 1894, the kinetoscope apparatus was created. Its disadvantage was that only one person could watch the moving pictures. In 1893, the projector for watching films was invented. And who invented cinematography (or cinematography) as a result? Brothers Lumiere! This equipment made it possible to easily shoot and show films to people on a wide screen.

The history of cinema goes into their hands. At their first show in 1895, they showed more than one video. For example, "Workers Leaving the Factory" was not as popular as "The Arrival of the Train."

The history of the emergence of cinema and world cinema begins at the end of the 19th century, but only since 1920 have films been put on stream and developed as an art form. And yet, in what year did cinema appear? The official version is 1895, but the first films began to be released long before that.

Previously, each such painting was worth its weight in gold, thousands of people came to the shows. The very first horror film was filmed in 1896 and was called " Devil's Castle" At that time, of course, there was no talk of any great technologies, but this was enough for the unspoiled viewer to admire and be frightened by what was happening. Now, watching this movie, it looks more like a comedy parody.

The first color film in the world

One of the first color films in the world was " gone With the Wind", filmed in 1939. Technically, this was not yet an ideal result of progress, but by the 60-70s, such work far outweighed black and white cinema. Officially, the very first was a movie called “ Becky Sharp» 1935 release. However, long before this, there were attempts to “decorate” the ribbons, which was done by hand by the Lumiere Brothers.

The famous “Battleship Potemkin”, released in 1925, is the first color film in Russia. But the only bright spot in the film was the red flag, which was hand-painted by director Sergei Eisenstein.

In 1936, the film “Grunya Kornakova” was released. And a picture about the 1945 Victory Parade was shot on multilayer color film.

Where did the world's first cinema appear?

Nowadays you won’t surprise anyone with cinemas; there are several of them in every city. Moreover, technology has developed to such an extent that you can no longer just watch a film, but feel smells, wind blowing, vibration and other movements occurring on the screen, and see everything in three-dimensional form. The first movie theater was Vitascope Hall, opened in 1896 in New Orleans.. It had a seating capacity of 400 and admission cost 10 cents. The largest hall opened in 1910 in Paris; it was designed for 5,000 spectators.

Conclusion

The development of the film industry has taken a giant step from its birth to the present day. Progress does not stand still, and specialists are still working on creating more and more new technologies that will improve the display of films and their shooting to the ideal. Perhaps very soon, sitting in a cinema, you will find yourself in the middle of the jungle, and fantastic scenes will take place around you that you can touch, and maybe even participate in a little.

The childhood of modern children is inextricably linked with cartoons. But there was a time when animation was just in its infancy. Today we will talk about the first cartoon in the world.

What was the very first cartoon in the world?

It is not easy to answer this question. There are two candidates at once. The first is Stuart Blackton, who created the first such painting in 1906. These were drawings in motion, captured on film, the action was called “Humorous Phases of Funny Faces.” In it, the viewer watches characters drawn with chalk on a blackboard. Blackton got the hang of it and a year later presented “The Haunted Hotel,” a movie diluted with animation elements. His creations claimed to be the very first cartoon in the world, but it was difficult to call them full-fledged.

This picture was created by another person - the artist from France Emile Kolya. He released "Phantasmagoria" - a small short film lasting only one and a half minutes. However, it required effort from him - he had to draw more than seven hundred illustrations. When was this very first cartoon in the world released? Viewers saw it in 1908, and the picture looked good for those years.

The plot is strange and difficult for the average viewer to understand. The main character Fantosh is sitting in the theater, a fat woman in a headdress with feathers sits in front of him. This bothers him, Fantosh first pulls out the feathers, then throws away the hat, and in the finale he sets the lady’s hair on fire. The plot changes - Fantosh tries to steal something from a man, he is detained by the police. Then the hero continues to find himself in various interesting situations.

Interesting fact: in 2008, Phantasmagoria was remade, and in new version old character meets its modern version. Although the animated film was made using computer technology, fragments of the forerunner remained in it.

Who was the first in Russia?

The very first cartoon in Russia, which was shown in the world, was the film “Beautiful Lyukanida, or the Fight of the Mustache with the Stalkers.” It was directed by Vladislav Starevich. The main characters are beetles, the plot is a battle between two males for a female. The author was a biologist, which influenced his choice. The film surprised viewers, both Russian and foreign.

For those who want to know the name of the very first Soviet cartoon in the world, we will answer: “Soviet toys.” It was directed by David Kaufman. Like subsequent cartoon developments of those years, this picture had a propaganda plot: the proletariat and Red Army soldiers defeat the bourgeoisie and priests in every way. It all ends with fireworks and an image of a New Year's tree on which the enemies of the people are hanged. Let us note that propaganda motifs persisted in Soviet animation for quite a long time - even in the animated film adaptation of Gulliver’s Adventures in 1935, the main character wore a pioneer tie.

Pioneer in color

The world's first colored animated film became a representative of the “Merry Symphonies” series and was called “Flowers and Trees”. It was three-colored, bright and beautiful, and this Disney creation featured Schubert's music. Short film - the length of the film was 7.5 minutes. This was enough to win an Oscar. The Soviet colleagues were late with the answer - the three-color puppet animation film “The Fox and the Wolf” was released in 1936. The tape was also musical, but the duration was longer than that of its Western competitors; viewing took 18 minutes.

First 3D cartoon

The world's first 3D cartoon was “The Adventures of Andre and Wally the Bee,” filmed in 1984. It was computer animation with 3D graphics, duration – 2 minutes. The main characters are a man and a bee who walk through the morning forest. It was made three-dimensional thanks to animator John Lasseter, who was greatly impressed by the film Tron. Later, this man would create the Pixar studio and direct the cartoon “Toy Story.” It will be the first full-length animated film with 3D graphics.

Anime founder

The Japanese have been making anime for a long time; this genre has become firmly established in their culture and has achieved popularity in other countries of the world. Animation films in this style are produced in different genres. The first one was created in 1907, the author is unknown. Very short - duration is only three seconds. A boy in motion spells out the word cinema in hieroglyphs and takes off his hat. Later others began to appear, lasting from 1 to 5 minutes. The title of the world's very first memorable two-minute anime-style cartoon is “The Dull Sword of the Samurai.” In him we're talking about about a simple-minded hero who bought a defective weapon.

Now you know a little more about the first cartoons of the world. Progress continues and technology improves, but these films will remain in history as people's first steps in the field of animation.
