In 1992, the singer’s first album, The Taiga Symphony, was released, on which musicians who collaborated with the groups Pet Shop Boys, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, as well as Moscow State Symphony Orchestra p/u Pavel Kogan. At the request of the English company Olympia Disc, in the early nineties, Valeria recorded an album of Russian romances, “Stay with Me.” In between recording the albums “Anna” (1995), “Last Name, Part 1” (1997), “First Internet Album” (2000), “Eyes the Color of the Sky” (2001), she gave birth to three children - Anna, Artem and Arseny.

In JULY and August, singer Valeria has three more ships with ex-husband. What does a desperate woman want and why does she do it?

LERA, I still refuse to believe the monstrous truth about your life. But, as far as I understand, your breakup has been brewing for a long time?

After living with my husband for several months, I realized that I had fallen into a trap. He intimidated me to such an extent that I was afraid to do anything. I had no contact with my relatives or friends. Everything that was in my life before meeting him was erased. He, apparently, did not want people to know that before him I already had some professional groundwork (I graduated from college, was a soloist in the Variety Theater orchestra, and participated in “Song of the Year”). And if not Shulgin, then someone else would definitely have appeared. But he wanted to present this story like this: once upon a time there lived an unwashed Cinderella, then he appeared in her life, washed her, dressed her up and released her on stage.

To be fair, it should be said that Shulgin did a lot for your popularity.

Nobody belittles him business qualities, commercial flair, ability to conduct advertising campaigns. It was interesting for me to work, especially at the first stage, when they were doing the Taiga Symphony project. Shulgin did not appear at literally producer of this project, but created a situation in which I tried my hand at working with famous musicians.

He was choking me

I understand EVERYTHING, but why now, at the peak of popularity, did you decide to tell everything?

My patience has reached its limit. I filed for divorce twice - three and a year and a half ago. Even then, I didn’t care how my artistic career would turn out. I had to save my life and the lives of my children. After all, every time he begged, no, he didn’t even beg, but demanded that I take the application, and I took it. When last September, before the concerts at the Rossiya State Central Concert Hall, he simply began to choke me, I said: “That’s it, this is the final point.” But I couldn't stop it immediately. They would have blamed me for lost profits, huge sums.

Three years ago you already tried to get a divorce and at the same time you suddenly give birth to your third child. Where is the logic?

I filed for divorce at the moment when I was pregnant with Senya. We didn’t live together for almost a year, so I gave birth to a child and Shulgin knew nothing about it.

But then she still came back?

He BEGGED me to come back. It was then that we entered into a marriage contract. Shulgin told me: “Take the application and wait six months, you’ll see, I’ll improve, I’ll become different.” After this time, I realized that I still needed to file for divorce, but then we started working on new program. And it was impossible to stop the process immediately. I was waiting for the moment.

Gave almost no money

Have you already divided the property?

I filed an appeal to finally resolve our property dispute. After the first trial, I got a house in the Moscow region, and Shulgin got everything else: 7 apartments and an office in the center of Moscow. This is fine? Formally, Shulgin turned out to be right - all the property was registered in his name. From the moment we signed the marriage contract, according to our documents, we were supposed to have separate households. In fact, we lived as one family. And at the same time, it is not written anywhere that it was I who worked 200 concerts a year, and not him. Almost all of this property was purchased at the moment when I was engaged in touring “chess”.

Did Shulgin really receive all the money?

Every penny went through him. And even the 25% that was due to me under the contract did not reach me. They were only on paper. He kept telling me: “Well, why do you need this money now? After all, we do everything for the family.”

Sorry, but how much did you receive in your hands?

I didn't receive anything. If I needed food, I asked him every time. I never had any free money.

What do you live on now?

In December, when I had already filed for divorce, I set a strict condition, and for the first time he paid me real money at the rate of 25% for the end of November, December and half of January. I live on this money because I don’t work yet.

Shulgin doesn’t even pay child support?

We have drawn up a child support agreement, according to which he pays 50% of the expenses for the children. That is, first I have to spend the money, then write down what it was spent on, and only then he will return half of it to me.

As far as I know, Shulgin does not refuse to give money for children.

He doesn't refuse. But I am not happy with the situation - 50% of expenses. Moreover, he opened a bank account in his own name. Why not mine?! To a normal person this is impossible to understand.

Shulgin always said that he loved his children. Did he really treat his own offspring as cruelly as you say in the press?

He's a scary person. I still can’t forget how our Artyom got sick in the car and Shulgin hit him in the face so hard that the child’s ear turned black. Moreover, Shulgin locked him as punishment in an enclosure with a dog, which Tema was very afraid of. This attitude towards the child was present from birth - he was not yet a year old, and the “loving” daddy threw him and said: “Piece of crap.” It was impossible to look at it, and I couldn’t do anything. I tried to take him to my parents as often as possible.

Did he treat other children the same way?

The eldest Anya was in his special regard for some time. He spoiled her; his cruelty towards her was not very evident. Tema suffered the most, and it started when he was still in the womb. My broken fingers and broken spine were common. What can I say... chaos!

Have you really not had a single bright memory left in all your years together?

He also constantly said to me: “Why are you covering everything with the same paint?” There were no bright spots, honestly! There was never real sincerity, freedom... We didn’t have a single intact door in our house, he smashed them with his fists. He breaks the door and tells me: “You did this.” When you expect to be hit, that very second before the blow is terrible. And it doesn’t matter whether there was a blow or not. A week, even a month after you were tortured, it is impossible to smile serenely. And there were so many such situations that I still have nightmares to this day. Or he drives me somewhere, stabs me with knives. I woke up in a cold sweat for many, many years.

Stuck a knife in the knee

WHAT, were there knives?

This is generally a story beyond comprehension. Anyutka and I spent two weeks in the maternity hospital (there were health problems) and were just discharged. Like a caring dad, he bought black caviar and we sat down at the table. At the same time, we remembered something lyrical, personal, relating to the initial stage of our life. He spreads a sandwich with caviar on me, and suddenly it seemed to him that I said something wrong. As he held a knife, stained with caviar and butter, he plunged it into my knee for no apparent reason. A fountain of blood, I couldn’t even scream from surprise. The next day, photographers from Cosmopolitan magazine arrived from Germany to make a report with me from Star City. Naturally, I didn’t sleep the night before, I swaddled the baby, jumping towards him on one leg. She showed up for the shoot with a severe limp, with a bandaged knee. And Shulgin explained to everyone: “It was she who opened the canned food and injured her leg.”

I CAN'T FORGET THIS! Especially when the person who did all THIS continues in the same spirit. Instead of saying: “Yes, I am guilty from beginning to end.” And do everything to make it easier for us and our children at this stage.

I didn’t want to say anything, but I can’t understand why he started all this? They would have divorced like civilized people, and he would have lived in peace. Nobody would know anything about him. But, probably, he was afraid that sooner or later I would start telling, and he was the first to start all these dirty newspaper battles. If he wants some kind of “working” relationship, to communicate with me as the mother of our common children (as he told the lawyer in court), then why is he behaving so illogically? I explain this to myself in only one way: he needs to make a name for himself additionally and in any way. “Jesus went down in history, he is remembered, but Judas is remembered in the same way,” he often said.

How do the children cope with what happened?

Children now live a different life. They have lost their fear. Like any normal people, do not feel the need for this fear.

Do they even ask about dad?

They don’t ask, they understand everything perfectly. They have witnessed this nightmare throughout all the years of our lives. Anya is the first, so she remembers more. How many times did he beat me in front of her, and she screamed: “Mommy, mommy! Dad, stop!” Wherever we went, anywhere in the world (Cannes, New York), there was crime everywhere. Therefore, the children are absolutely not worried that we are not together. Moreover, he himself told the children about the apartments, that everyone would have a luxurious room, he even went with them to choose furniture. But it turns out that the children cannot live in these apartments and they also understand that they have been deceived. Now, however, they convey to me the position of Shulgin, who says: “Please, let them live in the apartment.” But why should I live in someone else’s apartment?!

What I said is just the tip of the iceberg. You can’t invent all this and, unfortunately, you can’t forget it either. I know that it won’t be worse than it was. Thank God, she remained alive, the children are alive and well. There is time for a new run, there is strength to live on. I already started living freely six months ago.
